One of the biggest issues with Google apps is that some 'more formatted' documents can not open or lose their formatting when opened in Google Docs (or other Google app) and you can't save as an MS office format. Google started addressing this when it bought Quickoffice in 2012. The benefits of that purchase led to the good news yesterday that Google apps now support Microsoft Office formats (including an option to 'Save as .doc' etc). Apparently this is live immediately.
I've got a few documents that Drive could not open a week ago and today they now open and are formatted properly, so it appears they really are live already!
I'll be shifting a bunch of files onto Drive this week to see if I can find some gaps, but if I cannot then it might lead to me dropping MS Office entirely.
Well, found one already that does not work - my business letterhead has images in it and when in Drive the images are lost (but the rest of the formatting seems intact).
Ignore me, it does work, I had forgotten to move into the app to edit mode and then it all appeared fine!
You stand corrected... by yourself :)
But he is correct, it is pretty great that Google finally works nicely with MS stuff. made my invoicing a lot easier. :)
