I'm sorry to have to give you the very sad news that my best mate Bruce, known to LAN attendees as NvG died last night, aged 42.
Bru was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer a few weeks before his wedding a year last March, yet still attended the October LAN with his son Jamie (TE_owner).
We learned so much from each other in the 20 odd years since we met; I taught him to drive; he taught me to climb and cave. I tried to teach him DIY skills and he did the same for me with the PC.
Through him, in the early 2000s, I got into CS and we played the Jolt12 server, perfecting the P90 rush. Later, I found my way to dMw and dragged him along to our 1st LAN (2005?).
He was a dyed-in-the-wool fragger though; In BFBC2 he was top of the world rankings for kills at one point, his speciality being lone chopper pilot (he would swap seats to gun you down then swap back before the chopper crashed)
We spent almost everyday of the summer of 2003 with him learning to be a climbing instructor and me his pupil. He was a good teacher and they were some of the happiest days.
A few years later he was the climbing instructor for the cast of the film 'A Lonely Place To Die'. http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?32195-A-Lonely-Place-to-Die
I can honestly say that I've never seen him happier than in the last couple of years since he got back with Frankie (they were sweethearts at school); They literally radiated love for each other.
He leaves behind Frankie, Jamie (16) and Millie (11). Their loss is immeasurable.
He was simply the loveliest guy and I'm going to miss him so much.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Bru was a lovely guy and I really enjoyed his company.
My thoughts are with you all and especially Jamie and the family.
That's beautifully written Blunt.
Whilst not unexpected, it always hurts when it happens. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children and family.
I'll remember Bruce for his wickedly irreverent grin and his quiet but perceptive wit. It's a sad day, he will be missed.

I only met Bruce at the LANs, but thought he was an absolutely top bloke. What a massive loss - we'll be sure to sink a few beers in his memory at the BBQ tomorrow.
42 is far too young to die, being 43 myself with kids of a similar age It really hit's home how fragile life is. My thoughts go out to you and his family.
A Gent and dude, one of the nicest guys you could every meet. Always a smile comes to my face when I think of him at the LAN playing games, chatting.
He will be sorely missed, my thought are with you and his family.
NvG was a really nice bloke. I always got on well with him, I'm shocked to hear he has gone. He will be greatly missed by all. Very sad news.
sad day and a huge loss, met him at lans before and was always cheerful and a fun guy,my wishes go out to his friends and family.
Sorry to hear! He was a top bloke. I had the honor off meeting him at the LANs and played several games with him.
He will be missed!

As everyone has said, a really nice bloke and such a sad loss. As Tut says - a few glasses raised tomorrow to Bru from dMw.
Was lucky enough to meet Bruce at the LANs several times as well , such a lovely bloke and always happy to have a chat, he will be missed, thoughts are with you and his family
Well this sucks, much like everyone else I've only good things to say from the times we'd met at lans or online.
Catch you later NvG.
Sad news indeed, not had the opportunity to meet in person unfortunately, thoughts are with TE Owner, friends and family

Sad news indeed. He was a great guy and will be sorely missed. Glasses will definitely be raised. Doesn't seem so long ago that we were rammed into a hatchback with our CRTs and desktops heading cross country to our first dMw lan.
The LANs will seem a lot emptier without him, lovely bloke and as TL says, that grin will be sadly missed.
Really sad news :( He seemed like a great person the few times I talked to him at the lans and as everyone says he will be missed.
RIP Bruce.. You were a genuine bloke down to the core. It was nice to have known you as long as I did. My your family find some comfort knowing how much he was loved.
This has come as a complete shock and I can't believe he has gone!
We had a lot of fun times and it was always great to see NvG at the LAN's.
Agreed with all the comments above, see you on the other side NvG.
At the next LAN we're hold a minutes silence in your memory and my thoughts are with your family and friends.
Thanks everybody for your kind words.
Bru's wife Frankie has seen them and was very moved to read the lovely things you've all said.
I'm going to move this into the open part of the forum at Frankie's request.
GhostMjr, I fully understand your desire to remember Bru at the LAN, and I agree that we should... but can you imagine Bru wanting a minutes silence? :no2:
Maybe we can be a bit more imaginative than that.
Perhaps a memorial 2v2 Deagle cup, or something? I know he loved the Deagle comp.
Anyways, we can ponder that.
I will post funeral arrangements etc. when they are confirmed, and Frankie is thinking about donations to 'Cancer Research'.
I will update you on that if you wish to donate.
Cheers all.
Quote from: Blunt;385771Perhaps a memorial 2v2 Deagle cup, or something? I know he loved the Deagle comp.
Can I suggest that we rename the comp to "NvG Deagle - 2v2".
Let me know your thoughts Blunt et all
Like many I met NvG at the lan and always found him to be very friendly and always laughing at the computer, thoughts and prayers go out to his family a sad loss indeed taken far too young
My thoughts are with TE_Owner, family and friends.
It's been a while (almost 9 years) but I do recall sharing a room with Tox when NvG et el joined us for his first LAN (VIII). My LAN experiences were always great because of people like NvG. A very sad lose.
Perhaps we should have a webpage dedicated to our fallen?

Aye, he did like his deagling!
Nice idea NF and it shall be known thus henceforth.
Such sad news, he was such a lovely top bloke and i can still see his grin! He will truly be missed by a lot of people! RIP.
A big loss. My thoughts are with his family especially TE who is a top chap just like his dad was.
The Deagle naming is a fantastic idea I am all for that. Possibly we can donate some (or all) of the Thursday night winnings to cancer research UK next time round or do something proactive?
Definitely need to have a round in his honor during the Steak night too when the virgins would normally be ingratiated.
A big loss to the community.
DZ
yeah that would be good all winnings from the poker night get donated to cancer research uk

God now I've gone and had a big cry, thanks guys for your kind words and support. I wish I could write some erudite piece of prose that encapsulated the man. Put simply he was the nicest man anyone could hope to know and a supportive and loving father who was taken too young.
Thanks for reminding me of his signature grin and Battlefield/Counter-Strike days. It's easy to forget about the good times when the bad are still fresh in your mind.
I don't believe i met him face to face but in the CS days i remember him on comms liked good laugh, Thoughts are with you and yours at this difficult time.
In case anyone missed it on the previous page, Blunt set up a webpage where you can donate to Cancer Research UK in NvG's/Bru's name.
www.justgiving.com for Bru (https://www.justgiving.com/pete-morgan3)
Thanks TL. Put me straight on it.
Lovely to see so much raised
Thanks all for your donations. Quite amazing!
Don't forget to tick for gift aid.
I can't begin to tell you how much this means...brilliant.
I was away over the weekend so missed this. Sorry to hear this news. I've met NvG a number of times at the various LANs and he was always a nice bloke with a ready smile. Cancer is a biatch. It's taken a number of my mates, my brother and my mum.
On behalf of dMw, the Admins have discussed and have decided to donate £25.00 on behalf of the Community in memory of Bru. This is in addition to any personal donations and we would encourage anyone contemplating a donation to continue to do so.
We trust that no one minds us making this call and we are, as always, happy to discuss if anyone wants to contact me.
Thanks.

That is marvelous!
Thanks very much on behalf of Bru's wife Frankie, Jamie & Millie.
Bru's funeral is planned for Sat 12th July.
Haven't got a time yet, but it will be at his home in Waterlip.
If anyone is planning to attend, I can sort accommodation for a few, just give me a shout.
I would have liked to attend, but I'm marshalling that day for the MK Midnight Moo (http://www.mkmidnightmoo.com/) which I am sure Bru would have appreciated and seen as a decent excuse. Please pass on my best dMw wishes to Frankie, Jamie and Millie.
I'll have to give my apologies too I'm afraid. It's the weekend my American nieces fly into the UK so we'll be with them.
I hope it goes well

No worries, I will pass on dMw's condolences.
I to have just seen this and it comes as quite a shock, even though I did know he was not well but I certainly did not know to the extent of it.
NVG / Bruce was a cracking feller and someone that I personally will miss -
I will never forget the first time I gamed with him in BC2 and thinking to my self how can someone be that good in a chopper with out hacking although was very glad when he was on my side. It was not until my first DMW Lan many moons ago that he explained to me his tactics and I thought genius idea but personally was never was able to replicate it and ended up plowing straight into a building.
Also (true story) on my first meet of him and discussing these tactics in the bar, he accidentally knocked over my pint which went over the table plus myself, so this added to the constant chopper kills at his hand did not add well to my first wrongly assumed opinion. After much apologizing and mopping down of damp clothes, he got up with out saying anything and walked off, much to my confusion. 3 mins later he came back to the table with not only a fresh pint of beer but also a shot of whiskey as a sorry and proceeded to explained this is not how all new Lan attendees are welcomed. Least to say he still did not hold back on the fire button when playing BC2 later but all ended with smiles and laughter.
My thoughts and wishes go out to all his relatives and friends.
Really sad news, as everyone has said NVG was a top bloke and will be missed by us all.
Bru had a lovely funeral today (Sat).
He was buried in the field next to his house, surrounded by those he loved and who loved him.
All the wonderful comments that people have made here and on his just-giving page have meant so much to Frankie, Jamie & Millie, and me.
Thank you.
I really spend to little time browsing forums these days.
Quite shocked to read your post, it was beatiful! Only talked with NvG online, but he seemed like a brilliant chap! My condolences to the family and his friends.
It's hard to believe that it's been a year since Bru died.
Me, my wife, Frankie and a few mates went up to his grave on Wednesday evening for a few beers.
It's a lovely spot in the field by his house.
The trees we planted last year are just showing fruit, and the flowers and plants on the grave are just beginning to bloom.
I secretly planted a couple of seeds from his favourite plant; He would've liked that.
We're all still missing him dreadfully.
That sounds lovely mate I am sure he would of loved it.
I also can't believe it been a year.

We planted a tree in the back garden where my Dad's ashes were placed. It's shocking how fast time flies by. My Mum is selling the house because its too much upkeep and that tree is the only sign of his passing. You just made me remember this for the first time in a while Blunt. Hope the beers were cold and the memories were warm.

Lovely sentiments, Blunt.
Yes indeed.
At the LAN, someone had agreat picture of him holding a couple of beers. I can't remember who it was but any chance of getting a copy please?
I reckon it was the picture I took, I'll have a browse through my pictures but I think I've posted it on the forums also.
EDIT:
Found them:

Posted them Pen,
