I think renewal in gaming industry is MUCH needed.. i mean not to offend anybody but come on. CS is still the most played online game (at least amongs the top, if not number 1) and it's what... 5 years old ?

IF an industry cant produce a better online game by that long time it's really sad i think. We goto lans sometimes and just sit there... we dont wanna play CS anymore (been done, and i only play TCS now :D) but have no other games to play really.

I love that singleplayer games are becomming more and more actual, but then come the question of originality. Most game i think are just remakes of old games, or bad movies with no thought put into the game itself, and mostly just a bunch of pretty graphics and mediocre storyline.

I mean only games i play are Tony Hawk skating (for the challenge of it :D) and CS... no other games have been able to hold my critical mindset for more than 5 minutes. There is always some kind of flaw that irritates the hell out of me enough to not play the game.
Take Deus Ex 2 ... graphics where okay... but the general feel of walking around sucked... and so did the controls. I mean 2 mio butttons just because then you can pickup a basketball... how lame is that ? In battle you have to pickup everything on the foor peice by peice , and most times move the bodies before doig so :(

I think gaming industry need to spend longer making games, and think ALOT more on their games instead of just rushing them out the door and adding features later.
CS overcame the huge Steam debage i think mostly becaues people really dont have anything else much in that genre to play... they need the game, and cant for instance just start playing something else, because most other games are low on multiplayer communioty :(

Anyways .. enought of my ranting and raving and carrying on :D

I know I'm slow on the uptake but no broadband means I have started playing other stuff.
I'm playing Splinter Cell at the mo' and yes I know I'm the last one in the world to play it. It's great, multiplayer would be cool, not sure how you'd plan it, but then I don't get paid for that bit.
I'm a bit tired of all the MOH type stuff, Call of Duty was ok, but more of the same. Splinter Cell to me changed things slightly. I've only got as far as the CIA building so far, but I reckon there must be something that could be done.

Yup, I thought Splinter Cell was excellent. Take it as a personal challenge to complete all levels without firing a shot (I failed :))

I think the shooting games mostly need some more realistic AI.
Most games they dont think self preservation .. which stinks.
The AI should be concerned with it's own HP as well a shooting the player. Nothing ruins a gun fight more than hiding behind a corner, and knowing that all the enemys are running towards the corner like dumbass lemmings.

Cant remember which game it was but one new game had enemys that got scared, selfish ect. Cool to take an enemy down to 2 hp, and he then falls back, and stays in cover much more.
Would make for more realistic gunfights, where everybody is in cover more :D

I thought both Halo and Call of Duty had pretty good AI.

The best AI of all is on MH. Sometimes your own team even shoot you in the back making for much more realism  8)    <_<

Ahhh. But on the MH, AI stands for 'Absence of Intelligence'.

They hide round corners in CoD. But it's still the same thing, you die, you see where the shot was from, you shoot the same place next time and off you go.

One of the nicer things in Splinter so far was the shooting of the water pipes on the rig, still a bit linear though, and finding the briefcase matey was more fluke than following, but still, seems good. I like the touches like shooting the bulbs, looking under doors. Suprisingly I like the ability to look around the character whilst still moving, true freelook type thing.

As far as taking it back to HL. If the graphics were improved, the only addition would be to somehow restrict the sides to have to play TCS, impossible, but would be good. A T would not know an extraction point...oooo and idea multiple hostage rescue points, you could call in as you run to one and cotper picks you all up. That would stop the spawn camping after hostage rescues.

Hmmm....for bomb planting, much bigger 'live areas' but easier to track bombs for the CT's, that should do it. While I'm at it, proper ladder climbing, fully immersive and usable scenery...climb over fences etc.

ooooppss.....verbal diaiiaoooorieaa..cr4ps

I like those smart people that make our games so brilliant!!! Anyone ever thought of how difficult it is to make a good AI? When I think of it when playing a game I really get a feeling of: WOOOW these guys are great lol!

The only game I've found that really does this is Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven (And its only on PS2). The more health your enemies lose, the more defensive they becoming, taking a few paces backwards and trying to block your attacks more rather than just hacking madly away. Often if you do some particularly powerful move or use some trick they will just run away. This becomes especially true as you go through the levels and the AI of the guards improves.
