Title: Samsung ATIV Book 9 2014 Edition
Post by: TeaLeaf on August 07, 2014, 07:00:12 PM
I've been hovering over a purchase of a new ultrabook for a few months now and I just can't seem to make up my mind.  I *really* like several and like the ultrabook form, but I am getting seriously hooked up on the small 13.3" (or 14" for the Lenovo X1 Carbon) screen size and would prefer something larger whilst maintaining the ultrabook theme.     Then I found this one:

15.6" Samsung ATIV Book 9 2014 Edition (http://www.computershopper.com/laptops/reviews/samsung-ativ-book-9-2014-edition)

It seems ideal, brilliant battery life, large screen, only 3.9lbs and blu-ray level resolution (which is enough for my purposes).   It even seems it is available in the UK (source (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Samsung-ATIV-Book-9-2014-Edition-Arrives-in-the-UK-Available-This-Month-423569.shtml)) and comes in a i7 version with a 256GB SSD which again is ideal for what I want.

Only one problem:  I cannot find a single retailer in the UK.   I can find it in the USA, even in Germany, but I'd like a UK keyboard & spec please.

Does anyone know where to get one of these? (the only UK web source is a fraud site so far as I can tell).

I'm still struggling to find any supplier of this laptop in the UK despite the official press release saying it is available.

I'd much prefer it to the Dell XPS 15, but if I can't find the Samsung (and discover its price) I might have to just go with the Dell.

TL I have just contacted a company that I worked for as they do supply Samsung, they are going to see if they can get hold of it and costs.

I found a site that says it has stock, never heard of them though. their name begins with 'K', I'm not posting a link as it might be the scam site you found. it was an easy search on Google so I am assuming it is the dodgy site you already mentioned.

Yeah I found that one too and it's about 50% of the price I expect it to be, so I reckon that one is a dodgy site!  Thanks for the feedback though :)

Samsung sales team is appalling.   I emailed them 9 days ago and I've still not even had an automated acknowledgement, let alone an informative response.

Looks like the Samsung is a non-starter as you just can't get it in the UK and there are comments that Samsung are dumping laptops to only make chromebooks from 2015 onwards.   I've been considering dumping £1500 on a Dell XPS 15 as an alternative, but then whilst looking on pcspecialist for my daughter's laptop thought about one of theirs as an alternative for £1,190 (again with two batteries).   Seems better value than an XPS 15 to me?

Saw today that Samsung have announced they are pulling out of the laptop market in Europe, which is probably why there is never any stock of their shiny new laptops, which were the ones actually *worth* buying, as opposed to the stuff they sold which wasn't.

Still hesitating on a Dell XPS 15, but have a new contender in the Asus Zenbook NX500 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/NX500JK-DR013H-15-6-inch-Notebook-i7-4702HQ-Bluetooth/dp/B00KG6F2PG/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1411577859&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+zenbook+nx500)........which as you can probably guess is not yet available anywhere in the UK.  I'm about to slit my wrists on this :roflmao:

MacBook Pro with Windows 8 on it anyone? Yeah but that doesn't work particularly well. :frusty:

Liking the look of the Toshiba Chromebook 2 (1080p) as a much cheaper "I can't find an ultrabook I want" alternative, but that doesn't launch until Q1 2015.

Out of sheer frustration I'm actually heading towards just buying any old POS now instead of something I will actually like.......

Macbook pro with OSX works very nicely. It's what I use to develop software on at work. Way over my personal budget though!

My budget too, it's £2300 or so at the same spec, 50% more expensive.   That and I don't want to use OSX. :getmecoat:

i like the pixel, where chromebooks are concerned but its so over priced, I have a xps 15 and it's been a pile of ****, will never buy from dell again. Unless they re-release the dell streak
