I use nVidia's own "ShadowPlay" software for HD video capture then Windows own free MovieMaker to compile an edited video. I just put the video together then add commentary afterwards.

Been playing around with video editing software, starting making a few uber-beginner tutorials. Narration quality is a bit rubbish because my mic sucks and I have trouble speaking quietly ;) Also, the video is washed out, which is apparently an issue with Shadowplay. The video files it creates don't convert nicely, or something. Even just viewing them in VLC you have to turn off YUV->RGB hardware conversion to stop it looking washed out, and I can't find an equivalent control when exporting from Adobe Premiere (the exported video when viewed in VLC with this setting off looks fine) for upload to YouTube.

Still:

I'm still a total n00b at making videos, those are my first two, so if anyone's got any recommendations as to the content, or other videos you'd like to see (I already plan to do one on 'Supercruise/Hyperspace', and one on 'Navigating', but as we get solar system maps in beta 2.00 i'll probably wait till then for that one. Also i'm hoping the entry/exit from supercruise/hyperspace will be fixed so I don't have to edit that), then that'd be ace :D

Andy, any clues to his AI setup? Also the text comms box top right of screen, is that just a Twitch thing or is it a voice activated IM group to his friends in game?

I'd like the balls to try so much VA but I find occasionally a command is sent unintentionally and it's normally an epic fail, eg. Boost in a station! But the AI intrigues me.

Yeah I've had a long chat with Dingo over this, it's not actually anything other than a very in depth VA profile, multiple questions and answers are actually easy to do, just time consuming, so he sets up multiple ways to engage Frame Shift, then tells VA to press the relevant key, followed by the option of multiple confirmation text that can be read out by the "AI".... it's just when you combine it all together it sounds really clever, in slowly adding to mine, whenever I tell VA to do something and I then realise in using a command im just assuming should work, I just tab out quick and add it to VA !

As for avoiding accidents, best bet is to avoid single word commands you can do by accident. .. So instead of " boost " just use "boost please" or "engine boost" etc etc
Title: Videos and Screenshots
Post by: albert on October 13, 2014, 12:08:45 PM
Yes the single words are the main problem. I also am not quite getting how he implements the confirmation comments that professes to be AI response. Where in VA do you programme the response to your commands?

Cheers,

Bert

Here's something interesting from the Voice Attack Google group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/voiceattack)

Free Alternative TTS Voices for 64bit Windows - Get rid of Ana here!

So if your sick of Microsoft Anna, here is how to get some alternatives:

!!!WARNING!!!

This involves manual edits to your registry. If you mess it up, don't blame me. Do at your own risk.

Step 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Install the Speech Platform v11

a) go here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27225
b) click "Download"
c) select the "x64_SpeechPlatformRuntime\SpeechPlatformRuntime.msi"
d) run the installer (duh :P)

Step 2: --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Get the alternate voices

a) go here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27224
b) click "Download"
c) select the voice files you want. They are the ones that have "TTS" in the file name. There are 6 English (all female). I have not listened to the other languages, so I dont know how they sound. GB_Hazel and US_ZiraPro are IMO the better sounding voices.
MSSpeech_TTS_en-CA_Heather
MSSpeech_TTS_en-GB_Hazel
MSSpeech_TTS_en-IN_Heera
MSSpeech_TTS_en-US_Helen
MSSpeech_TTS_en-US_ZiraPro
MSSpeech_TTS_en-AU_Hayley
d) run the installers for each (duh :P)

Step 3: --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Extract the registry tokens

a) Open Regedit
b) Under - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech Server\v11.0\Voices - right click the "Tokens" folder and export. Save this file to your desktop as voices1.reg so it will be easy to find later.
c) Under - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Speech Server\v11.0\Voices - right click "Tokens" and again export it, again to the desktop. Call it voices2.reg.

Step 4: --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit the voices1/2 files

a) open Voices1.reg in Notepad.
b) press "cntrl + H"
c) enter \Speech Server\v11.0\ into the "Find What" field
d) enter \Speech\ into the "Replace With" field
e) click "Replace All"
f) Save File

g) Repeat a-f with the Voices2.reg file

Step 5: --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Merge the new Registry files into your registry

a) double click to "run" both Voices1.reg and Voices2.reg
b) Click "Yes" when it prompts

You should now have access to the new voices in Voice Attack, and in the Windows TTS options menu.
Title: Docking Request on VA
Post by: albert on October 13, 2014, 01:05:29 PM
And this could be a credit and time saver!!!!

Post 39 from https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=24498&page=4 - credit goes to "Del-Dredd"

Just sorted out a Docking Request command.

Ensure you have station targeted first and it works every time.

All commands with a 0.2 sec pause between.

Uses your assigned keys from the Mode Switches and Interface Mode sections of the ED controls.

Target Panel To open
Pause
Next Panel Tab
Pause
UI Panel Select
Pause
UI Panel Down
Pause
UI Panel Select
Pause
Previous Panel
Pause
Target Panel To Close

I still have an Open Comms command and a Close Comms command that I used but you had to use commands for Up, Down, Select etc so thought I would make one to do it all WHEN STATION IS TARGETTED. That way your eyes are not off the Station in close proximity while you are manouvering.

The confirmations are easy, pick a command in VA, double click on it, on the left side you will see various boxes, in order going down they are KEY PRESS, MOUSE, PAUSE, OTHER, RECORDER... choose OTHER, then choose "Say something with text to speech" from the drop down menu, then simply input what you want to be read out in the box, click preview to check it sounds ok, job done ! If you want multiple possible replies, separate them with a semi colon, so for instance your confirmations for "boost" may be "boosting engine; applying afterburner; woooooshhhhh" etc etc... your AI will pick one at random....

Hope that makes sense ?

Got it all setup last night with a 30 day trial of the Aussie HD female voice. Wife not happy I'm talking to another girl online ðŸ˜,,. Seriously the Ivona software is exquisite. It has the ability to integrate with other apps and read to you if you ask like the phone OSs do but way more effective. I really think £30 is a bargain for one voice. No she Doesn't talk dirty! Seems there is going to be a bit more ship design effort at FD, possibly because of the SC competition:

Not really. The ships designs were very much constrained by the earlier Elite titles. The battle cruisers, passenger ships and federal/imperial capital ships/fighters are ones not in the earlier games, so not made of basic polygon shapes, like the traders and freighters are from the 1984 Elite. Most of this stuff was done and dusted back in 2012 before any details (or possible competition) from Star Citizen was around.

The Imperial ship in the photo (and the associated fighter craft) artwork was released in February of last year, so it's not new. I know this because I've had it as my desktop background for a while!

I rather like the look of the Panther myself

The engines used to extend and contract depending on the state of the landing gear... You can see where they came from, but I would love to see something a little closer to the original. Plus it was a BEAST!

The Imperial Clipper reviewed by the same dude who reviewed the Asp in an an earlier video I posted and loved his style.

I'm seeing something really special happening with the ships in Elite. The original Alpha ships were much lower res and purely vector craft. Through the beta the vector type ships have taken on more form and have been streamlined, buffed up in their quality and generally look gorgeous in the hanger (although still not fly around or walk around OB). Even these below have been improved in Beta 3 although these are real screen shots as there seems to be an Elite Space Photographicy Group appearing:

Yep I think it was the training docking mission. I'm not sure there are any stations in the pre-release training combat missions. But hey, it's pretty cool and it's good to see the way he does this plus read the comments after the video about his setup! Free movement analogue stick for thrusters.

Control setup
Right hand: Defender Cobra M5 - pitch/roll/yaw
Left hand: Thrustmaster T-16000M - lateral/vertical thrusters
Feet: Thrustmaster GT Experience pedals - forward/reverse throttle.

Update: Turns out some of the beams I was carefully guiding my ship around have no hit detection anyway. Some areas have invisible barriers whilst it seems some things that appear solid are not at all.

And to +Tommyttk - how do you get your flight movement so smooth? My side thrusters are pretty much on/off and it doesn't look like that's the case here...

Tommyttk23 hours ago

+Ian Jefferies That would be the fully analogue vertical and lateral thrusters bound to the left joystick axes.

I have the pleasure of listening to the full album entitled Royal Blood, and I would swear on my Mothers knee that they used a 6 string guitar in places, but as the live video shows it's just very clever bass playing.

Aye, it was fun going on a bit of a road trip but in a Sidewinder there was a lot of fuel scooping. You can eat up half the 2 T tank of fuel with a 20LY jump making the risks of getting stranded pretty high.

I've been attempting to build a near perfect Explorer with a balance of max jump range with enough weaponry to survive. I think between teh adder, Cobra and Asp, the Cobra with 26LY jump wins. It has enough slots to get anything you need for exploring on there and is far cheaper than an Asp.

It's actually quite easy, just get 400LY from Sol and with a detailed surface scanner installed focus on stars and planets, it's likely some will be unexplored and when you sell your cartographic data it'll give you that message. Try it, very cool.

Nice one! The bonus thing is based on rarity of the object scanned I think. Normally stars/ Suns are 602CR. I got over 13kCR for an Earth-Like world. But most of mine were 602CR as well.

Check the system on my screenshot above with the earth world. I bet I never scanned the other planets and these are up for first discovery grabs! Would be cool to have more than one dMw name in the same system.

The game has a built-in screen shot mechanism. Hit F10 for screen shot or ALT-F10 for hi-res version (95Mb!). These are auto-saved into "\Pictures\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\"

Well done Bob.

You might find this chart (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ds3gr5i0es66e2v/Explorer_Infographic_000_ElDubardo.jpg?dl=0) useful on your travels.

Spotted that Liberator is a ranking up in combat last night. Above my rank of "Competent" Liberator is an "Expert".

So we now have a warrior and an explorer in our ranks!

Albert is on his way to being our first billionaire (gazillionaire?) and I am trying to have the largest garage (Sidewinder, Viper, Cobra, Asp, Python & Anaconda). I'm planning on getting a Clipper and after next week, a Fer De Lance and Vulture as well!

Finally made it to Mintaka some 700+ly from base (Zeta Trianguli Australis) and found a Black Hole.
Very disappointing as I expected to see some distortion.  I approached each object in the system very gingerly and took a few pics.

On taking the final pic, I was violently wrenched from FSD toward the hole (@0.18 ls) and needed
full boost to get away. As you can see hull integrity was down to 70% already.
Have just got to get the Cobra back to civilization and sell the cartographics

Finally returned to civilization, NAREG (well 200ly from home) and managed to get the ship repaired to 100%
integrity. Cost CR23K. I grossed over CR650K for the round trip. The Black Hole gave me CR28,080
and its system gave me a total of CR53,644.

Continually avoiding interdictions, usually when fuel scooping caused a great deal of grief and I was chuffed
as little oatcakes to  find a system with a landing platform and full repair facilities.:yahoo:

Just tested the ship of my 'trading' dreams, the Lakon Type 9 currently on offer for CR100 in Beta 1.2
What a disappointment, no range (kitted-out for 300T 'twas about 6.8ly) could not even make Zeaex from ZTA.
Had to return fully laden at a small loss, massive fuel bill and CR20k for repairs (did not hit anything). This was caused by
its inability to clear the star on arrival in the system and subsequent lack of a decent turning radius. Has a turning circle
which would contain half of Sol's planetary orbits.
Removed from my wish list

The Galaxy cam in 1.2 however, is neat:

Sadley i didn't have a class 1 beam on my ship at the time.
The biggest down side to it is that it is a fixed weapon, and for anything bigger than a viper its a pain to use, fair enough if you have an asp, that has a decent amount of guns, and is only medium, but it just "looks" a bit weak". If we were to make a "screaming Eagles" wing and go out and have some jollies, it might be different..
The question is
"Would you prefer to cook your target, and  deep fried in the void, or simply blast him out of the void and be done with it?" ... only testing will let us know.

Fly safe out there.

If you want to go check it out- head to the Home system of our beloved leader, you can only buy faction stuff there. Same for the other factions too.

Well about a month ago i decided (foolishly) that i'd take a "short jaunt over to Sagittarius A*" ... yees.. jaunt.. yep.. short- NO!

Now all we have to do it to navigate out of the most densely populated area of the galaxy to an area that will allow me to make a 1000ly plot.. as currently is limited to 130ish LY due to the density of the surrounding galaxies. As it just stalls the pc client!

I have other images on my photobucket page for your browsing http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j55/Ranualf1/Exploration/Screenshot_0099_zpsuzgwb0wt.png (http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j55/Ranualf1/Exploration/Screenshot_0099_zpsuzgwb0wt.png)

Title: Videos and Screenshots
Post by: Ranualf on August 23, 2015, 12:03:05 AM
Quote from: albert;402745I enjoyed looking through your collection. So what happens your PC struggles to calculate a longer flight path?

It's the core of the galaxy, and as such there millions of stars out there, all wanting your attention!

What this means for you is a real pain for plotting long distance jumps (500ly+) and the pc just goes on a "i`m thinking about this"mode...and the nav computer stalls and just very slowly ticks ... ticks... ticks..so make 300ly or less plots, and you will have to wait for it to do the math!
How to get round it- make very short jumps- of 130ly or less!

I got lucky and managed to plot a 530ly jump into SagA* but getting out was a real pain in the asp.. 130ly bunny hops until about 1000ly out of SagA*!
Best way to escape SagA* is to go either go 1k ly up/down but not straight left/right.. as the clusters are so tightly packed!

I'm currently 21k ly out of sol which is about 700 jumps at 33ly in the Asp, as you can't travel straight (as you know).

Is it worth it?

Just for going out there and seeing it (taking pics ofc) it is well worth it! But monetary wise, yep as it will either put you straight to Elite or very close!

According to the Zulu (who found SagA* 1st) he made about 157 million Cr off his trip in December last year. After 1.2.7 they upped the exploration data values about 70%?
I figure i have at least 150 million of data thus far, if not more.. so its well worth it. But when you compare that to trading its only a few serious days of trading at 8 million per hour with ease.

A word of warning it is tough going, and is a test of wills to make it that far out! It will not be a quick trip out, unless you speed scan the system, scoop and jump, not bothering to explore any of the planets in the systems you find.
It has taken me roughly 2.5 weeks of 5+ hours a day to get there, but i've been wandering about, exploring stuff..
A speed run will take 15 - 20 hours if you know exactly what you are doing (to get there) so a round trip will be at least 30-40 hours, minimum. Put into perspective, that is 5 hours per day, for 8 days.

Advice-

Take at least 1 AMU (auto maintenance unit)
Carry at least 1 heat sink, pref 2 as its a LOONG way out, and no reloads!
Get the biggest fuel scoop you can- i have a b6 on the Asp and it does the trick (+21m CR for a class A6!)
You will get sick of traveling 100,000 LS to scan stuff.. so you need to be picky- ignore rocks (crap value) as 10 rock planets are the same value as 1 Jovian, basically.
If you target is over 2000 LS, ignore it, unless water/ Earth like (money) or a high value star.
Never jump out of a fuel star with less than 50% tank, as you may to travel several jumps for the next one (min i got to was 20% but i have a +8 tone fuel tank).

My ship build

PS. I think i found out where Santa lives! As he left his nav beacon on :P
