Title: Project Zomboid
Post by: Galatoni on September 16, 2014, 02:01:06 PM
I'm just testing the water here. Is anyone out there aware/interested in playing a coop (ie not killing players ;) ) game of project zomboid? If you haven't had a look yet its http://www.projectzomboid.com/. Its a very simple game really considering what you can actually get up to - think DayZ-ish.

If anyone is interested in having a go, register your interest here and we can see about getting a server up and running somewhere.

OK. Not too much interest, but I fancy having a go. Jamoe said he'd fancy it, and myself.

I'm going to put up a server in the near future, i'll limit to maybe 6 slots and extend if more people are interested - don't want to skint myself. I'll post details on the forums as soon as I get them.

It's on offer at the moment for £5.99 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/108600/

Managed to get the Linux version working after jumping through some hoops. It doesn't appear to start from Steam :(

@Galatoni - where are you getting the server from? I'll chip in if you like.

I'd rather use one of the official ones, it cuts down on the time-consuming configuration work. There are a few good ones so i'll have a better idea of which i'll be using later. They're not expensive so there's no real need unless the numbers start increasing.

Sounds good to me, let us know the details when it's up and running.

Can we not host a server at dMw?

Not if there is only going to be a few people, seems a bit unfair. If the numbers pick up then by all means. Was having a look.

Really customisable in terms of what you can do.  Details of infection, length of day, strength of zombies, the senses on the zombies, even when the civilian utilities stop working. Any preference as to how hard/easy you want it?
I was going to suggest; tough zombies, no infection (to begin with at least). Don't know what to do in terms of length of day though. :g:

Looks interesting.

Is this something we can play at the LAN on a local server?

Cheers,

OK. 6 slot public (i'll see if i can password it!) server is available at IP 5.62.106.150:16261. Its public so no password. It shouldn't be broadcasted as a public game so we shouldn't get anyone hopping on.

EDIT: When you first login, the details you use will create the account. Login using your own password.

Good little run around last night Galatoni :) will be good to see a few more on there.

Not sure about it's longevity, will have to see how the fortifying/crafting/growing food works. I can see it being quite fun with a group of us trying to set up a few safe houses and farms.

Aye. Look forward to it. With any luck the missus will be distracted so I can get on ;)

With it being on offer at the moment, its a REALLY cheap punt on what is actually a pretty fun game. Let me know about the settings, everyone, and i'll tweak them as we go.

Hasn't been that many players to be honest. With Ed and sc in worked about the longevity of it.

Is anyone still wanting to play? At the moment there is me, jamoe and martynthewolf. Few others have shown interest though.

There's been a slight change to the zomboid server. You can no longer join the game and have an account created automatically. Instead one must be created for you.

Just pm me your username and i'll send you a password back for you to use, you can change the password once in game by using the /changepwd "" command.

How is this game? Anyone still active? I can see it on sale now and I like coop survival (enjoy Don't Starve) so I am wondering if it is worth getting?

Post by: Galatoni on January 03, 2016, 01:56:44 PM
Its a very simple idea but a very complex one in terms of detail. While not graphically intense, things like weather and seasons trap setting, radio stations, farming and crafting make up for it.

There is also a creative mode for map building close to being completed which should be interesting.

I very much wanted to get a dmw server running but there was little interest so I shut it down. I'm still very much interested by the project and want to try again if there is enough this time.

In short, if you like the survival experience with the graphics. Its your thing.

Thanks for answer. I like the concept of the game and the graphics are fine as well, they add to the feel of the game. I guess I will wait for next sale if there is more content for the game, not just one map. Would be great if it was procedurally generated to get random experience. Otherwise I really like the look of the game and I think it could be blast in coop.

Hm... Well you say 'just one map' but its a map that has been closely modelled on a real life American city somewhere near West Point. Things like loot are closely linked the the buildings they're in but by and large, they're generated on load.

I played for a fair number of hours before it was on steam, and I never came close to fully exploring the map. Its pretty big. Plus there are a number of user-generated maps that have been released - not to mention mods. I hope this helps to inform you. I have to say I agree with you - played a few hours of coop and its really fun!

I see. So everything else is random? What about spawn location? And does everyone spawn at the same place? Does the game adapt to more players in the game? Also is there an objective or are you just trying to survive for as long as possible? Quite a few q, sry :)

Pretty much yes. Its ok. I love indie development so fire away :) spawns are random there is no objective. Its a survival simulator. The game is hard enough that even with a group you'd need to be careful. You can easily be overwhelmed. You can only see I'm one direction at once. Check out some review videos.
