Just a reminder that the livestream kicks off at 10.00am UK time this morning. The plan is that RSI will reveal the FPS module and apparently have a few special announcements as well, which ties up neatly with JT's post about the Gladius and the Redeemer I'm guessing!

Not getting much here in Maastricht. Aussie Internet cables being a little stressed by the additional 500k video connections? I seriously hope they do a single stream to the US and broadcast from there and not Oz

Well that went well. Lasted all of 2 minutes before the feed went down :sideways:
Lack of bandwidth........is killing me! We need to exterminate more kangaroos and sew their tails together to form a better & more resilient connection. :P
At this stage it would be faster to do packet transfer by plane ;-)
Epic fail, not enough trophies sold!

Seems to be streaming fine now, all problems solved, although 'roos seem slightly less prevalent than they were for some reason....

That made my day. :thumbsup::dmw:
Ok the visuals are beautiful! I'm impressed.

Their version of 'head bob' is *way* better.
Weapons look better already than BF4 weapons.
Haven't seen it yet. Already excited by your comments. :-D
IllFonic are officially confirmed as the [REDACTED] developer - as revealed on Reddit and other sites many months ago. Star Citizen is their 6th Cry engine project. There's a nice article about them here:

They've also in the past worked on the 'Ruby tech' with AMD (which I believe is now known as TressFX Hair), it works particularly with AMD cards obviously (nVidia currently struggle with it) and the early demo pictures are worth a look if you missed them last year.

When I upgrade my current 2 x GTX770 SLI configuration in preparation for launch, I'll therefore be strongly considering AMD replacements!
Feed is up and down but what I've seen so far is very, very impressive. If I were to give the Arma developers a wishlist for Arma 4 then it would consist of the things Illfonic have done for SC's FPS.
Agreed, that demo they just ran was spectacular and it's still 4-5 months from pre-alpha release! Drop Dead Gorgeous.
To [NSFW] quote CR as he described it just now:

I'd have to agree!
Updated Roadmap
By end 2014
-Arena Commander 1.0
2015 (in approximate order)
-FPS module (likely in Q1)
-planetside/social module
-engine moved to 64 bit (addresses large space imprecision resulting from 32 bit math!)
-Arena Commander 2.0
-Squadron 42 Episode 1 (back half of the year)
-Planetside expands to Persistent Universe Alpha (before end of 2015)
Livestream over, I'm going to re-watch it later on Youtube as I missed chunks due to the Twitch stream dropping about 5 times (probably due to too many of us hammering the bandwidth & servers).
I'm off to watch F1 FP3 now!
Enjoy :cheers::dmw::3cheers:
I don't do FPS (too much going on for my poor brain to take in) but that did look awesome!

I certainly wont be looking for any PVP/PVE FPS but I am looking forward to the immersion of a well designed and implemented FP (no S :D ).
A lot of us are with you on that Obsydian, we're too old, too slow or just plain cranky enough to not do well in a fast-paced 'no penalty for death' FPS. However, if it gets cautious and tactical then we usually excel. Brains > Brawn is what kept dMw in Division 1 of the Counter-Strike league for so many years, it wasn't our lightning fast reactions, more our ability to out-think, out-plan and generally out-git our opponents!
If the Tactical is high enough, then we might see FPS in a different light. However like Oldie, my main interest will be in the PU not the FPS.
Quote from: TeaLeaf;390199out-git our opponents!
Great. This made me laugh. I'm totally in agreement with you on the FPS stuff though!
The AMD vs nVidia choice is a real interesting one. Such a big game release for AMD if they win it and the loser will suffer market share big time.
Quote-engine moved to 64 bit
That's not a small task, could easily push it into 2016.
AMD are currently
miles behind Nvidia, but there's time for that change....[/COLOR]

As some of you may recall, I used to play Warcraft on Linux via WINE.
I don't do much gaming on Linux these days (the games just don't work at all via WINE which blows chunks) but I'm super excited when SC announced Linux support.
Why is this relevant?
Well, the nVidia driver is on par performance wise with the Windows counterpart.
The AMD driver blows chunks (ie expect a 30% performance drop).
This has been true for a long time and I just don't see it changing, thus I will *only* buy nVidia cards. Plus I now have a GSYNC monitor so kinda locked in now anyway.
And with CIG support AMD might deliver awesome support for Linux. I'd hold off my card choices for now.

OMG I want to play this NOW! :woot2:
So has anyone in CIG actually explained what will happen if you die in FPS?
I can't see having to go out and buy a new character, send your inherited ships to another character etc. every time on FPS mode. Not that it's not a great idea to make death really death but surely being too realistic will put people off playing FPS and the only people that'll be left are ARMA fanboys fighting NPCs or Iron Men Pro gamers who never lose.
Want to know the reality of this ambitious concept.
Cheers,
Bert
Clones?
Eve's 'backup' clone system seems like a good fit.
Quote from: albert;390253So has anyone in CIG actually explained what will happen if you die in FPS?
Same as dying in space I'd guess.
Death of a Spaceman (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?39135-Death-of-a-Spaceman)
Yep, you're down but not out. You might wake up with a new cyborg leg or a couple of bionic gonads or suchlike.... eventually you run out of bits to replace and so your character dies and your curvaceous 21 yr old niece inherits your ships etc..... or something like that
There's a nice bit on what happens when you get injured or killed in the FPS in the live stream. It should be up on YouTube by now I would have thought.

I watched it on YouTube but 3 or 4 times the stream got lost. Maybe their own channel didn't have the stream when I checked.

Hopefully they can support both styles, but lets face it - most will be wearing helmets making it moot anyway ;)
