Title: Elite: Dangerous - Team Play Ideas

Hi All,

As the subject line states this topic is for post using our brains to make our Elite experience more team like.

It's clear that the ease of setting up a rendezvous, travelling around in normal space, supercruise and certainly hyperspace is logistically difficult.

Please post any guides and web pages you can find about how others do this.

So let me come up with ideas no. 1.

We meet in a system say, Styx, Chu Hub, and from 5 K from the station cruise to the other port, come out of cruise together. Then jump to Eranin and hit Azeban City.

See if we all make it. Who's in?

Try a "low heat" Beam laser and multi-cannon combo.

The laser is best for shield-peeling and the multi-cannon chews hull like there's no tomorrow. Whatever class you can fit or afford is good.

Torpedoes and missiles are best for long-distance kills - usually when the target is making a run for it - get a lock and let the bombs chase them.

The AI has improved a great deal. Don't use an FSD Interdictor on a "Deadly" NPC or you'll have a tiger by the tail. Found out the hard way, a basic Sidewinder is no match for a pimped Cobra Mk III!

The aim is to have any range of ship but be in a pack and to go to a zone where there isn't too much action so we can survive and have a few rounds of taking down NPCs as a team. The hardest part is not shooting eachother! The second hardest part is running when you're damaged.

I'm trying to find a suitable Low Intensity Conflict Zone that's near the Eranin/ Styx systems so we don't have to stray too far.

I wont be able to make it as my upgrade failed, and from info gained from t'interweb, it appears a new installation is required. Booger.

Update: EA say ticket resolved after telling me to delete Frontier_Developments folder in /Users.

Sadly tonight didn't work for me as for the most part I could only see Sneaky and Arithon, and only they could see me.
I flew through oldie and nothing happened - we were supposed to be right in front of sneaky. I shot at Foster Research Station and I think only two people saw the action.

So the grouping needs some work before release.

On the plus side the game runs fantastic 1440p and looks good.
My Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS key binds found here (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16140&p=756611&viewfull=1#post756611) work very nicely - I was just getting the hang of the layout towards the end of the session.
It really helps to print out the cheat sheet as well.

It was fun but not exactly smooth! The fact we all weren't in the same instance was annoying.

I was browsing on the open issues and it's like the 2nd most ticketed issue that is annoying everyone. I think they are aware of it and another ticket will just mean it lies for 2 weeks.

It should be much better in Beta 3.9.

From David Braben's Q&A yesterday as posted by Arithon earlier.

It'll be interesting to see whether this is stability and group consistency or actual identification and location improvements. I feel the game needs an easier way to find our group members in battle.

that jumping together (drive slaving) and possibly also Alliances will not be in at all.

It looks like they are replaced with a system called Player Wings that will be released early next year.

Should I start to worry for the Team Play aspect now?

I think we'll get the team side of things required to travel, fight, trade, communicate and do missions together sharing the rewards. Its just a matter of patience.

I always remind myself that buying into the beta we get exposure to all, both good and bad. When the end product comes out there'll be a few things that are still required to 100% satisfy me but I'm sure they'll get there and quickly as they have done turning around everything in every update. I don't know of any game that grinds out the patches and tuning so fast as ED has.

I hear ya OldBloke. One of the reasons I'm currently liking it is that I think I've been suffering from MMO burnout so this is currently good for me.

Mining!

What if one guy have the laser and big power supply. The other one have big cargo, big refinery and big power supply. After each run the refinery abandon half the cargo and both go sell their part.
The point beeing that the refinery could be almost still scooping the ore.

I would like to try that.

I've only done a bit of mining but the problem I can see is that there have only been a few 'roids to mine in the areas - 6 in the last one I tried. They do not hold common minerals/metals and, if you find a profitable one, they deplenish too quickly to provide enough bounty to share amongst a group. Still, I'm happy to give it a go.

I will try to get a Cobra during the weekend and equip that. I don't want to bother with my Hauler. I'll just grind until I get the Cobra.

Re. Mining; best option is possibly just both to have all equipment and then take turns blasting and scooping. So we don't have to split/scoop again later.
I'm sure it will be faster with two working together.

If you have a Hauler then a Cobra should be about 2 hours of careful trading and mission delivery to reach.

You might even see me boost my FDL into an asteroid.

I suggest Wednesday, 7.45pm GMT for 8 in TS having met at Zeta Trianguli Australis - Guest City - Private Group.

We find an Anarchy system with low security and go do some damage!

Of course a few of us have been online each evening doing this exact thing and anyone is free to join us.

I am easy. I have to admit I launch Elite from Steam, so a Steam 'event' like the CS:GO ones would go a long way to reminding me to turn up for dMw organised stuff :D Either way though, i'm not so reliable in what days I can make, but there's no days I can *never* make. As such as long as I know in advance that something will be on i'll try to make it :)

I know we're right into the hot season in Europe and it's quite a struggle to sit at a hot computer each night.

Powerplay has also been rather disappointing and hasn't encouraged more team engagement.

I'm open to suggestions on how we could orgaise our team play better and get people feeling they are working together.

What we do well already is welcome new commanders and help them get into the game.
We trade together well and flight at RES points well.
We help eachother out in the community goals.

Do YOU have an idea on how we can play as a team better?

Please post anything that springs to mind :D

This is totally possible.
As i have said before, and will again i am more than willing to assist people in getting a better ship.
The mining nodes do not belong to anyone, thus the quickest limpet to the node wins :P
But seriously, if you want to go mine, thats fine by me, i`ll just drag my python into a RES, and blast away at the rocks, its got enough guns to look after itself, and protect the valuable cargo. As well as team mates. It also has a KWS (Kill Warrent Scanner)on it so if any pirates turn up, we can scan them for extra bounty.

Go have a read about the benefits of mining in powerplay in my post about it.

If we need bigger protection i`ll bring the Anaconda and sit there menacingly to keep the riff raff away. I`ll just drop off the belly cannon for a big refund and slap a type 2 mining laser on it and blast rocks all night long for you- A big power supply + a A7 power distributer will ensure rock die swiftly.

As for days- Wednesday is out for me as i`m raiding (in WoW) until 10pm GMT usually, maybe 10:30 if we get involved in a discussion about stuff after the raid.
Other than that, i`m able to be online most days.

I think we should have Elite night/s, as most of the games around here.

The game feels very grindy, and without company to chit-chat, it gets boring fast.  So, we should have some kind of non-powerplay oriented goal/s.

Example: wing up and travel to unknown space, discover new systems.


Unfortunately the game lacks content, even if there are billions of systems to explore/trade/mine/kill stuff in.

There is/was a station under construction that was the object of  a community goal on the outer rim of civilised space.

While those of us with monster ships can jump vast distances, it would be a challenger to take the smaller ships along with.

Fuel limpets and an extra fuel tank or two to do the job. Treat this as a practice run for a deep space mission.

Once there, maybe undertake a group-exploration mission to find and scan a black hole. Or... there is an active community goal for exploration running right now that finishes on Thursday.

This would be a commitment of days, but would have to be a team effort.

Any takers?

I'm currently still working on the metals of creation mission.  I was planning to keep working at it, as the big payout in the end will be quite the boost.

I also have a mining group, although they operate out of a system that is about 220lyrs away from our home system.

Alternatively there are RES`s in Disci, inc a low res one (better ore), this is where i take the python out to mine, i`m thinking of changing the load out to only 1 mining laser, due to the pirate infestation.. although i suspect the server may have glitched out as i had about 5 "waves" of pirates attacking me and other mining ships in the area, which lead to a interesting 15 min or so  fight. bearing in mind i took off 2 of the weapons to make way for the mining lasers.. meaning i "only" had 1 type 3 pulse, and 2x type 2 beams lasers (fry time), but they are kind of power hungry, and can cause heat issue when used a lot...something to think about.
Also if we changed faction (i know) and got the "combat mining laser" things would be easier...just throwing that thought out as a alternative solution for the miners.

I'm interested in knowing what happens to your faction weapons and kit when we defect. If we keep them or can freely buy them after wards then I think spying on the opposition could be an honourable reason to defect ;-)

Although I think Frontier decided we need a ways to keep everyone interest for a other year so have 12 factions each with a different prize and a 4 week loyalty requirement!

The faction-specific kit can be kept when you defect, but you no longer qualify to buy it, so you lose it if you sell it.

That said, if you buy Prismatic Shields or super-doopa-hot beam lasers, would you want to sell them? I'm waiting for someone to publish specs on these weapons so I can do an article on them for my blog "The toys of power, are they worth it?"
