Title: Battlefield Veteran Badge
Post by: Gone_Away on November 15, 2014, 01:55:05 AM
Guys,

As a community we've played the Battlefield series since the early days. Remember BF 1942? That came out in 2002. Recall the fun at the LAN with BF Vietnam and the choppers with the radio's built in? That came out in 2004. In 2005 the Battlefield series came back with BF2 which even today is argued as the best of the series with it's use of the Commander and Squad Leader (remember voting for Commander?). BF2 brought us Karkand which again was one of the best maps due to it's size and game play and while BF3 tried to recreate the magic with Karkand, the game had moved on. It was from BF2 that the series became diluted with the introduction of BF2 Modern Combat, Special Forces (my personal favorite with the grapple hook), Euro Force and ultimately BF 2142 and Northern Strike in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

The next major release rekindled the series and that was Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in 2010, while BC2: Vietnam failed to capture our attention.

Believe it or not BF3 came out in 2011 which which lasted until 2013 ending in BF3: Aftermath and "End Game". BF4 Came out in 2013 as we know and the final chapter "BF4: Final Stand is due out in a few days.

That's 12 years of Battlefield

As BF4 comes to a close I would like to propose that we honor this epic and long standing series that has also had a part in sustaining our community with a Battlefield Veteran Badge. As a community we've decided to take Battlefield offline for the time being for many reasons. However, we mustn't forget the fun we've had along the way. This game deserves the community's recognition.

My proposal is that badges go to those members which have been part of the Battlefield Community (paid members by the way) and who have participated in four of the following series:

Battlefield: Vietnam
Battlefield: 2
Battlefield: Bad Company
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Battlefield: 3
Battlefield: 4

I want to give credit to DuVel for this suggestion should it go ahead. He planted the seed. All I've done is brought his idea to life.

Thanks,

NF

I like the idea of a veteran badge, but I'm just trying to figure out how it might work.

My main concerns are

(1) there is a limit to the maximum number of badges we can use under our current system (not sure what it is but I am sure Smilo will know),
(2) do we actually have an accurate list off those that would qualify for it, and finally
(3) will we then get requests from other games for a similar badge that will then come back to bite us in the bum in point (1)?

1. Fair point but we also have several badges that can be deleted from a quick glance. BC2 RO2 Cod Black Ops
2. Having played all of them I have a fair idea
3. Not many games that we've "retired" have been played this long but each should be judged on their own merit.

I agree that few games captured our imagination as CoD did.

For me, our team games of Wake Island  hold such great memories with the hours and hours of play we did on it all to huge amusement.

Personally I'm not adverse to the idea if if fits within the constraints TL mentioned.

Works for me, the badge would be a doddle to do now. And I can also clean out the old badges as well

Smilo,

Do we know the physical limitations on the badge numbers we can use?

Regarding other games and requests for historic badges apart from WoW I can't think of any others which people would clammour for/

Yes from me.

Yep WOW is alive and well. There is no upper limit to the number of badges we can have although the most a user can display on their profile is set to 20.

Aye, I know WoW is alive and kicking I just meant that WoW would probably be the only game people would retrospectively ask for one.

My bad for not explaining.

Anyway ... :)

Thanks for checking Smilo, I knew there was some kind of limit, but I had recalled it as much lower than 20, so that's good news.   The fact that we control the limit number is kind of killer too
