Ben made a very suspicious "no comment" to the question of whether the Javelin would come up for sale next week.
Is it worth me trying to get one, or will we struggle to crew it? Is the Idris enough? The collector in me wants it, but I do wonder how fun it will be in reality.
The Idris would be melted, of course.
I will be very keen to see the Javelin I like it alot
How do they compare?
For me it more the look very anime mecha look
Just seen. The obvious advantage for me would be the hangar rather then just (as if it's a small thing!) few bays. But I think crewif would be difficult like you say. I wonder how large the ships it could hold would be? Certainly a pretty looking thing!

I know. I wish I could sell it to someone (it would have been at cost) instead. I probably won't melt it to be honest. Even if I do go for the Javelin, I might end up with both ;) It's more likely that it would be an upgrade scenario, though.
I do want it, for a lot of reasons. However, I just don't know how much I'd get to fly it - or even let the org fly it. The crew requirements would be crazy and I'm fairly sure flying in the verse would be expensive to the point where we'd only ever use it if we had a good reason. I can't imagine striking out into the unknown just to see what we would find - it would probably bankrupt us.
Then there's the fleet requirements - I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to fly that thing without a proper escort.
Might be a bit excessive. Yet I can still picture getting one.
Might be an opportunity to test the Org's resolve and crowd fund either a Javelin or your Idris should you decide to buy a Javelin!

I'm afraid that it's impossible to sell my Idris - it's the P, so can't be gifted. So nobody can buy it from me. I guess you could pay me the cash to put towards a Javelin, but in all honesty I wouldn't be comfortable with that. I guess we could crowd fund a Javelin, but it depends how much it costs. I suspect most people wouldn't want to put anywhere near that much towards it - the game's not actually been released yet.
I obviously have no idea what other people's personal circumstances are, but it might be s a bit much to crowdfund and the more people put into it, the higher the stakes if the game turns out to be rubbish. I don't mind putting the cash up because I'm an idiot and I earn a lot more than I used to :D It's a dangerous combo. The important thing is, I've not put anything into it that I'm not happy losing if the game is bad or I get bored of it in a month.
The more I think about it, the more I think I'll keep the Idris. I might melt other stuff for the Javelin though, if it looks like it'll be worthwhile.
What's the maximum crew size we think we can manage?
Leep the Idris, you'll have fun with it and it is a great ship. The Javelin might be awesome too, it is huge.

If I keep the Idris and get a Javelin too, I'll only have an avenger and a handful of hornets. Sounds like a lot, but it'll not fill any kind of hangar deck...
I did this to that photo, by the way.

Just looked at this again and noticed the BYOB sign... np! :D See you there...
Limited quantity if they do and I would guess a price of circa $2,000. Remember it's 100m longer than an idris: 240m versus 340m.

Well then I wont be getting it lol, will save my credits in game or steal one :)
I sold my 10 yr old BMW 525i sport for £1250 when I left the UK last year! Almost perfect condition, can I buy a Javelin and say I upscaled to a massive virtual space ship?

IS there sufficient interest for org funding a javelin?
Who would be in?
It might not even be on sale.
Depends on its price I guess. If it is silly price then it might be a nice goal to find or construct in game. If it i lower priced them perhaps a group could fund one, but we're still left not knowing how group owned assets will work.

I think if we genuinely think we'd use one, I'd try and get one to be honest.
Say it costs $2000.
We have 50 members on the fleet tool.
If everyone donates 25.51 GBP we have our org ship. If less donate, then the 25 pounds goes up; considering a meal + drinks at pizza hut is what, 20 pounds at least?
Let's see what happens with which ships go on sale and then how much they charge. It's not just the price of the Javelin either, some members may want to put that £25 towards a different ship or nothing at all.
I imagine this would be the outcome if we owned a large ship and manned it with a bunch of Scots : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJA5pFpRQxY
I have to agree. On its own is not a large amount amount but it would need a team effort.
The other thing to remember is that the Javelin might be large, but it is not going to be the largest thing in the 'verse, not by a long way. Take a peelk at some of the Vanduul ships for example (and each race has their own 'larger' ships).

Interesting aside: The Void was seen in AtV episode 21.
It sounds like it needs one hopelessly reckless spender to step in.
*shifty eyes*
Well, it's up!
$2,500 for a civilian Javelin (basically, no armaments)...
hmmm...
Small print:
Finally, we’re ending the process with a much-awaited concept sale! On November 28th, we will launch the Anvil Carrack explorer concept sale. The Carrack will be available for $345, with LTI and the standard concept sale bonus features (in-game ship model and poster.)
Well, I can't get it. I'm away at a trade show when it's released. I think I would have chosen my Idris over it anyway.
There are bigger ships in the 'verse, I'll wait to find one or save for one. Javelin sounds great, but the Carrack sounds like more immediate fun!
Quote from: TeaLeaf;391383There are bigger ships in the 'verse, I'll wait to find one or save for one. Javelin sounds great, but the Carrack sounds like more immediate fun!
It really does! Carrack comes with med bay, ability to install "cap ship systems", four decks, a small launch (like the reclaimer) roughly twice the size of a connie... the only sore point is the price, but it sounds like it's going to be a lot of ship for the cash.
Incidentally, what do you think they mean by "cap ship systems"? They've stated it will be low on combat power (although high on survivability), so I don't think that means weapons. I think it means stuff like engineering stations, etc.
I have s feeling it'll be c&c based stuff or comms systems. Obviously firepower is an issue but it'll be possible to boost the other systems. Perhaps a jump beacon for smaller ships to home on?
Safe to say this IS the ship I'm most excited about.

I like the idea of a beacon. Not so sure about C&C stuff. I mean, I'm sure it probably comes with that installed already, but I don't see that as a capital ship system, given that the hornet tracker is supposed to be able to act as C&C (although I'm sure it'll work very differently). By cap ship systems I think of games like Artemis or something - individual people managing whole ship systems etc. So perhaps scanning will be a whole job :)
Still curious with regards to how the 'additional systems' are going to work on the constellation chassis. Hopelessly off topic though.
Right, decision made, for now. I looked at what ships I have, and I would have to melt my Idris to get hold of a Javelin. I just don't feel like I'm prepared to do this. The Idris is my absolute favourite and to be honest, I don't see us being able to regularly crew anything bigger (at least to start with). In addition, I would have to rely on all of you to upgrade my privately owned ship, which would complicate things too much.
On top of that, I'd have to lose ships like the 890 and Phoenix to get there, which I just won't do. So while I could give it a go in theory, I'm going to hold off. The fact that I'm unlikely to manage to get one from my tablet in a hotel room is also a factor - I don't want to have to grovel to Concierge for a mass-unmelt. I suspect they're going to be busy enough as it is.
I'll be honest. It just wouldn't be worth losing your idris. We'll get there as a group. It'll be more the sweeter. I don't even know how we'd organise the crew for anything bigger. Rank and file - it would be hard to organise everyone.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking. Now I have to somehow come to terms with not owning the biggest ship available ;)
Coming to terms with not owning the biggest ship yet.... Have faith player

Good point. Plus we can have plenty of good times rocking out in the Idris :D
Aye looking forward to flying protection detail for it.

Again, I think this is one of the main selling points of the Idris over the Javelin. If we have a Javelin, we'd all need to crew it or there would be no chance. If we have an Idris, people can fly their own ships in support.
Plus, it sounds like a Javelin will be an in-game credit sink, rather than a money earner. Honestly, I can't actually think of a reason for actually having one either - what would we actually
do in it?

This wins.
Perhaps we can manage that on the Idris, during the Great Idris Gumball Rally? We at least need a sexy female vending machine.
"fish!"
