Well, 2014 is over so I figured we could move to a new thread to collect any F1 gossip in the run up to the new season next year.
In the mean time, here's some of Vettel's first day at Ferrari.
VAG Group are conducting a feasibility study into a potential F1 entry. Apparently the review is being conducted by Stefano Domenicali, who after leaving the Ferrari F1 Team earlier this year, was hired by VW Audi.

It might make sense too, a 1.6l litre turbo-charged engine with ERS capabilities is right up VW Audi's street.
Interesting, this is something that was mentioned mid season but as an engine supplier rather than team, this was the potential engine for Redbull IIRC
Having said that i will be surprised if they enter a team next year as the took a hit this in global sales as they were in talks of purchasing some of Fiat autos assets (Giovanni Agnelli) but fell through due to financial reasons
2015 would be too soon for them that's true. But 2016 or 17 could be possible.

60 trophies were stolen from Redbull Milton Keynes, more likely to be melted down :(

The BBC is reporting that button has been retained to partner Alonso

Reduced salary reported to be from £12m to £6m, Alonso on £25m..... makes Jenson look like a rookie if true
£6m is still a good wage...id have it
Quote from: sulky_uk;392455£6m is still a good wage...id have it
It's an insult to his ability and standing.
Having said that, Button knows that, like with Lewis, he will be playing second fiddle to Alonso and will be the number two driver in the team so if he wanted to stay in F1 in a competitive car then this was the only deal in town.
It's also McLaren's way of saying "do you really want it?" If not Kevin will jump at the chance. What was Magnusson on anyways in 2014?

I think I saw £600,000 mentioned somewhere.
£500,000 iirc, but £500-600k is a lot different to £6m.
Darn right, McLaren got the best deal there, and with Magnusson as reserve it makes them strong for 2016 if they decide to let Button go.
Thinking about it, There is more than likely clauses in the contract where if 'x' happens, or performance equals 'x' you get 'x', bonus etc etc.
Sacking continues at Ferrari as Pat Fry exits making way for Jock Clear - Lewis's engineer at Mercedes in a shock move.
https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/motorhead-uk/lewis-hamilton-loses-key-engineer-to-ferrari-093248019.html
That *is* a big signing and a blow for Hamilton if they do not get someone good in to replace Jock. It's a big promotion for JC though, Dir of Engineering @ Ferrari is a way bigger role.
Haas has purchased Marussia facility (but nothing else that was auctioned) and looking to join in 2016 using Ferrari engines, Haas HQ will remain in the US. Their interest in F1 has been on the cards for some time now. They also somehow aquired Marussia's 2015 car specs.
Off-season is almost over folks, testing is imminent. McLaren wanted to let you know in a 'back to the future' sort of way.....
Sauber C34, audio of engine and a nice view of the wheel dashboard in operation.

I see they have adopted the Alfa logo close to the heart, maybe a shout out to where Ferrari originated from (or just paid them lots of money being in the same group). Vettle looks strange in Ferrari racing gear!
Wow. Just wow!

Interestingly, Ferrari were also quickest at the 2014 Jerez test which is why they went on to have a stellar season ... :flirty:
Wow vettel did well with no one to race shocker ;)

Alonso will NOT be driving for McLaren at the Melbourne GP.
Kevin Magnussen will replace Alonso who is sitting out on medical advice following his 215kph/134mph crash on 22nd February.
bit of a strange one that...maybe he was injured more than they are letting on or he thinks the car is dangerous and has said "ow my necko is soreo so I willo be sittingo outo of the next raceo"
There's more to the injury report than we first suspected. This is what is being reported that Alonso said when asked who he was at the hospital.
Quote"I'm Fernando, I'm in karts and want to become Formula 1 driver," he told doctors who asked him who he was and what he remembered about the accident, according to Le Pais newspaper.
01:00am tonight.
It's hammer time!!
Free Practice 1 from the Melbourne Grand Prix.

I predict Hamilton will do it again this year but Ferrari will be on their toes and just ahead of Williams and Mclaren, Ricardo will also be in the mix but RB struggling overall again
Interesting point made by Alonso yesterday bemoaning the lack of speed with today's F1 cars.
Quote"They were eight seconds quicker," the 33-year-old said of the cars from his title-winning seasons with Renault in 2005 and 2006.
"The engineers did some calculations. The winner of Malaysia this year would have been lapped six times by the winner of Malaysia in 2006.

Its not about how fast you are these days, its about how slow you can go and still win.
All the fancy aerodynamics that make it nigh on impossible for them to overtake each other, and they are 8 seconds slower? F1 really isn't heading in the right direction is it? :(
What can I say. Absolutely stunned. And that's the understatement of the decade.
What the duck were they thinking? I have never been so gobsmacked by the idiocy of the decision to pit Lewis under the safety car. I mean, why? For what benefit? Un bloody believable.
Yes I've seen that as well :D
In the end we are all humans making mistakes. Even Mercedes Benz.
Crass negligence. These people are *the* best money can buy.
A thorough drains-up, forensic enquiry into who and why is the least that should happen alongside a massive apology to LH for an unforgivable error.
You can tell that I'm gutted and angry in equal measure.
I thought Lewis handled himself really well afterwards. He was clearly livid when Martin Brundle stuck a mic in his face and asked him how he was feeling....
LH seemed unusually subdued after qualifying today :g:

I thought he was disappointed with his time.
I think he expected to be even further ahead and was disappointed with having the two Ferraris so close.

I'm not sure about that because he should have been delighted there were two Ferraris behind him rather than Rosberg.
Oh-oh :eyebrow:
Hehe..

They do, but the first tag needs a subject to work, ie replace 'spoiler' with 'spoiler=F1 Monza', and then you'll find it works like now!

The only time I've seen him show it off was on the podium - where he had no choice. Every other time he swaps his headgear of choice so fast I think he wants it under cover as soon as possible. I expect it to go very soon.
I suppose he likes a bit of hair under his crash helmet otherwise he'd shave it all off. Or he might actually like it himself!

Meet Bernie. He tweaks things.
QuoteThe latest draft of the 2016 sporting regulations states:
“Only power units which are identical to the power unit that has been homologated by the FIA in accordance with Appendix 4 of these regulations may be used at an Event during the 2016-2020 Championship seasonsâ€.
The rule applies to engine hardware. It does not apply to software, fuel or lubricants.
Red Bull anyone? Perhaps Ferrari now *has* to give a current engine to Red Bull?
