It's time for your phones to be upgraded and we may move away from iPhones onto Android.
We looking for large phones but not phablets. They need to fit into pockets.
What are you chaps using nowadays?
I am rocking my nexus 5 it is all good!
Nexus 5 is still an excellent choice and not too large. Slightly cheaper is the £130 Moto G 4G (2014 model not the older one) which is an excellent budget smart phone.

I like LG phones, the G2 is now a bit old (Nexus 4 generation) but is cheap and powerful, definitely not Phablet size. G3 is bigger. Samsung S5 is also very nice. As the guys above said, you are safe with the Nexus 5 due to it's native support and simplicity.
Choose LG or Samsung if you want more integrated apps, I like a lot of the OEM apps so I choose LG.
This looks like a nice deal: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorola-5-Inch-SIM-Free-Smartphone-XT1068/dp/B00NBSZ56C/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1418988327&sr=1-7&keywords=LG+G2
Nexus 5 here too running Android v5.0.1 :D
Me + Mrs using Nexus 5's also - lovely bit of kit although been looking at Note 4 and Nexus 6
One Plus One, slightly on the big side, but cheap and packs quite the punch.
You should be able to buy them without invites, as of a couple of days ago.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5 off of my recommendation, and I have an LG G3 (had a G2 before it)
All 3 are great phones.
The G2 was basically a Nexus 5 with LG's android on top of it, and the G3 is just an updated G2. So, compared to the N5, the G3 is more powerful, with better tech under the hood and (most importantly in my book) a much better screen. It is more expensive, but I would happily recommend it if the budget allows.
The G2 is also still a great phone, with little separating it and the G3. If you could find a G2 for considerably less than the G3 then by all means you won't be disappointed.
The main difference I notice coming from 2 to 3 is that the G2 has a lower resolution but higher colour saturation screen. The G3's colours are OK, but comparing it to my Samsung tablet (which uses an OLED screen), it can look a little washed out - the G2 screen is more vibrant, but as I say it is the 'standard' 1080p resolution (the G3 is 1440p). Still not sure which screen I prefer if I am honest, but the G3 packs a little more grunt, and of course as LG's flagship is supported with updates a little faster. I also prefer the G3's android to that on the G2, it is cleaner in both looks and clutter.
The N5 is also still a great phone, but it is noticeably slower than the G3 now. It is an old phone now, and although its hardware still holds up well, battery life, pure performance, and camera are 3 things that stand out as just being considerably better on the G3. The main advantage the N5 has is the price, was very cheap and easy to get one.
As I mentioned, I also have a Samsung tablet, and I would not buy their phones currently as a result... The tablet is fantastic in terms of the tech inside (the screen is gorgeous, by far the nicest screen I have used on a handheld device), but I do not like the flavour of android samsung offer. Personal preference, of course, so maybe an S5 would suit you just fine! But for me, I will stick to LG for now.
Nokia 3310.
I love "Snakes" :)
PAYG. I put £20 credit on last February and I only have £18.95 left.
Blow the expense. Give the cat another goldfish.

I always recommend Reading the comments though.
Cheapest I have seen the LG G3 was £289 from Amazon IIRC, so aim to pay that or lower (Boxing day / January sales is a good time to look)
Currently £299 on Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/645056-lg-g3-smartphone-metallic-black-lgd855-a6gbtn
I upgraded from the S3 to the HTC One M8 earlier this year and it's a stonking phone that's also very good looking.
Although if you're not confident holding it I (it's a solid metal body, could be slippy) I recommend a grip - or just choose a different phone.
I started with a grip, but then it doesn't look as good so I just take extra care for it.
At the time (June/July) it was either the S5 or the M8 for a 4G phone. What swung the M8 is that the Samsung apps Want To Be Like Google Apps But Suck hard experience on the S3 - HTC bundle apps but stay with the stock Google stuff just with their own skin.
Also, I find the interface easier to use. But don't take my word for it - I would also advise walking into a shop and test driving the phones that catch your eye. But do try the M8, tis very nice!
The one +one is doing very well from what I have seen

Been using it since October, no issues and it's snappy.
The only gripe is a bug with the bundled camera app (Flash doesn't trigger). Solved by just downloading the google camera app.
