So after a pretty big discussion on Hangouts and looking at flights it’s time to try and get the ball rolling for Norway Part Deux.
Summer 2015 is the plan with the usual drinks, shooting and any other activities people want to do in Alesund, Norway.
Accommodation is still being worked on but this is down to the number of us likely to go on the trip.
Budget- £300-£400 Includes flights £90-£100 ish.
Having looked at the flights Thursday- Sunday is not possible from Gatwick (our original long weekend plan) due to a 6-8hr journey time caused by a stopover in Oslo on the way to and from Alesund.
Therefore we have looked at Friday to Monday options and these have come back at very competitive prices.
Option 1 (Preferred)- 24th July 2015- 27th July 2015
Outbound: Gatwick 11:35 Arrive 14:45 Alesund (£64.90)
Inbound: Alesund 15:10 Arrive 16:30 Gatwick (£28.70)
Total:£93.60 Option 2- 17th July 2015- 20th July 2015 Outbound: Gatwick 11:35 Arrive 14:45 Alesund (£64.90)
Inbound: Alesund 15:10 Arrive 16:30 Gatwick (£38.70)
Total:£103.60

Too early for me to plan anything at the moment so I'll have to pass for the time being.
Don't worry just yet TL , we'll always find a spot for you if you find out later that you can :D
Same for me, I won't know for a few months at least if I will be able to come.
I am interested for sure but I also am planning on moving house this year so might be a last minute decision for me.
Me too but that's normally when the Americans come over so won't know for a few months.
Following Penfolds tradition from the LAN thread, there's a possible issue with the dates. Waiting for Scott to edit his post :\

Due to accommodation issues we have had to stick with the earlier July dates of 17/7/15-20/7/15.
First post amended to reflect this.
People are beginning to book hotels/ flights to secure things.
Hope those who are interested can make it.

A one-off issue from the hotel doesn't equal a tradition I'll have you know :).
Besides, have a word with Mr Brother "I have rugby tickets for every weekend in October" Tobious if you want to know why the weekend flipped :flirty:

now the truth comes out!!!:)

Well, considering the amount of alcohol that was consumed last time, the brewery had to ramp up beer/ale production to cater for the sales spike during dMw LANs.
Otherwise, there wouldn't be enough beer/ale available!

For Sarah and I
We go away on the 21st so I'll have to pass.
I would love to come sometime, it looks like you crazy kids have a blast and Norway's one on my bucket list!
Flights booked, same as Scott and Tom.
Just for info: Ã...lesund city is going to be crazy when you lot arrive :woot2:
If anyone wants they can try a big jump in the city centrum, on skiis and landing in the sea.
And most of centrum will be cut off for cars this perriod cuz of the Tall Ship race :)
Yep I know, my wife and I are staying in a hotel at the harbour so the ships should be nearby! Not doing anything on skis though 😋
I'm joining also. Got the Friday off from work and it's the beginning of my summer holiday.
Same flight booked as Albert and his misses.
I hope the offer from crashing Dan-Erik his place is still good. Expect a tall Dutch guy.
For the rest, as it's my first time in Norway, I was planning a bit of a trip after the weekend.
Kakehund suggested going by boat back to Bergen (thinking of staying there for a night) and from Bergen to Oslo by train (maybe staying there a day or two).
If anyone from Norway has some suggestions on what to do or such then let me know. Nothing exactly planned but interested in seeing a bit more of Norway as it's still my summer holiday.
So... advice is welcome.
Any ideas on the weekend already except the tall boats?
Hurtigruten (or any other boat service) from Ã...lesund to Bergen is an excellent idea, and the Bergen-Oslo train journey is spectacular. Norwegian television acually did a multi-camera, multi-season real-time show on the journey.
If the boat happens to stop in Flåm, definitely go by Ægir brewery. If it doesn't, you can split the Bergen-Oslo train journey at Myrdal, take the train from Myrdal to Flåm, do one day there, then Flåm-Myrdal-Oslo :D

If the price is right, I might actually join you for this bit.
Apart from the tall ships, we have guns and booze planned. The outdoors shooting fell through due to restrictions on weekend shooting at the range, but I'm sure Kakehund can organize the tunnel again. There's some new toys available since last time.
Weather and time permitting we're discussing some form of sight-seeing trip, fjords and mountains and ****. More detail as we work it out.
Guess you can also daytrip on Hurtigruten to see the Geiranger fjord if that sort of thing interests you :) Sent you a more detailed PM, Pete :)
This is going to be awesome.... really excited!
First post updated with Chaosphere and Duvel.
Up to a total of five people so far making the trip!
The wife's not gonna be happy ant being excluded in the 6! She will inflict pain on you Scott!
This is a lass capable of keeping a scottish drunkard in line, so you're in trouble now Scott :D
I've got my Norway trip sorted now.
17 Juli: Nijverdal to Alesund,
20 Juli: From Alesund by boat to Bergen.
22 Juli: From Bergen to Oslo by train (still need to sort out the exact train).
24 Juli: Back from Oslo to Nijverdal.

Cool! I'll catch you in Oslo, if I don't make it to Ã...lesund. You can order your train ticket at https://www.nsb.no/en/ btw
How is the pick up going to be? Me Albert and his misses are arriving the same time, can you help us out?
And can I have a stay/ride towards the boattrip on Monday at 01.00 in the morning?
We'll sort out picking you up at the airport by the time you get here :)
And we'll also make sure you get to the boat, the how and who I'm not sure on just yet but we'll get it sorted before you arrive on friday.
So nothing to worry about but getting ready for a fun weekend!
I can pick up the KLM arrival if someone else sorts the other one. Alternatively, if there's enough room between the landing times, I can do both pickups. If needed, I can also do the boat run.
Quote from: faust82;380038Ghost had a good question, so decided to put the answer here.
He asked if there was any firearm safety resources that should be looked at before coming over. Of course there is.
For those coming with us to the range, we'll provide the safety gear etc. and there will be a safety briefing/quick weapons handling intro. It might be a good idea to check out these few things first though.

Of course that guy talks about a firefight, being an american. None of that here. You'll mostly be shooting the guns until they're empty anyway, but good to know clearing technique.
For those that want to get a head start on shooting technique, I stumbled across these videos the other day. Some great information there.

The grip video was kind of 1911-specific, so here's another one using a glock as a demo. Handy, since we'll be trying out glocks :D

More rifles this time around, but most of what's said still applies.

You guys are going to have a blast! Highly jealous!

Ã...lesund is between the airport and Woha's place. Can be a bit tricky to drive there due to the ship races, but it should be OK. Pete'll just have to wait for that :)
The firing range is also in Ã...lesund, but at the back of the mountain.
We'll do some logistics calculations. Which hotel btw?

Noted Faust, no problem at all. It will just mean that you will have to wait for your beers a bit more. :flirty:
We can't really get to the drinky part before we're done at the range though. Guns and alcohol don't mix :p
Also noted and yes I've watched the videos.
