Title: FSHost and FSX Steam Edition
Post by: Sparko on January 10, 2015, 02:13:56 PM
It seems that FSX Steam Edition is not compatible with FSHost :(

This is the main reason I have held off from posting up the January fly-in as I know there are people that want to join us but only have the steam edition. With this in mind can people who would be interested in the next fly-in let me know what version of FSX they have installed (or prefer to use) and I will try and sort something out.  If there are enough people using either version then we could do 2 flights (one for each version).  Not really sure how to get round this so any suggestions welcome :)

I don't know about you mate but the server didn't come up for me when I scanned, could it be it's just a case that the server is down or is there a web page explaining this?

I know I successfully used FSHost just after installing the steam version originally.

just used fshost and the server seems to be down. I am in the process of installing everything onto steam edition, while keep the other edition installed, i suppose ill see how it turns out soon enough, either way if need i could host the steam fly in on paddys comp as he is a school till feb, and we can use fshost for everyone else, ill play both

I tried another FSHotst server and the client loaded fine and I ran FSX Steam Edition fine. Nobody else was on the server so I couldn't tell if I was seeing other aircraft but I can't see how it wouldn't work.

I tried it the other night and got a weird error message, tried tinkering with it but couldn't get it to locate my FSX install I'll have another look later

So the client wouldn't even load or link to a server?

nope cant load fshost, it says:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect"

So this is obviously a local issue just for me rather than a compatibility issue.  so looks like FSX and FSHost are ok (although I did read somewhere that it wasn't  )

Apparently the issue is to do with 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package '  im just looking around now to find a solution.

...aahhh finally fixed it.

If anyone else gets the message "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect" when running FSHost after installing the steam version you need to do the following:

Go to the following FSX steam directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces

in this folder there are 3 folders

FSX-RTM
FSX-SP1
FSX-XPACK

In each one of these folders there is a SimConnect installer.  Run each one in turn in the order listed above.

FSHost should now run

Oh no......
Hmmmm interesting.......
Good luck.....
Hurrah.......

Just catching up with the thread. Glad I'm still going to be able to have a go at flying in formation or whatever happens on the server.
