Albert and I were talking about sound effects in Elite and I mentioned that the engines of an Imperial Clipper sounded just like a C5.
Just to confirm, I know what I was talking about!
Contrary to urban myth, they were not driven by a washing machine motor, they used a motor normally used in torpedoes. Their only connection to washing machines was that Sinclair had a service contract with Hoover for on site maintenance.
The C5 was basically a powered bicycle with a comfy seat and was tremendous fun and very safe on the road. The press did a total hatchet-job on it because they hated Sinclair.

I sold the C5 in 2000 to make space in my garage. Something I kind of regret now. Mind you, it was bought for £139.99 in December 1985 and I sold it for £300 in 2000, so it more than held it's value. I've never had any other vehicle double in value in 15 years.
