Comrades,
Chatting this afternoon, me and Toby thought it might be a bit of fun to give Arma players ranks in order to recognise their contribution to our server & community. Based on the British Army ranks here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Army_officer_rank_insignia) and here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Army_other_ranks_rank_insignia).
One possible idea was to represent our Arma community as a Corps/Division/Battalion and assign ranks accordingly, starting with the more senior admins and working our way down. Players could then add the insignia to their forum signature, and an abbreviation in game (Maj. OldBloke, etc).
Obviously scope for promotions and medal awards :)
It's just a rough idea and a bit of fun, hopefully not to be taken too seriously - thoughts?
As long as it's not taken too seriously I can't see any problem (obviously we cant promote people willy nilly either), it might actually make people think more about what they are doing.
Gets my vote

Oh god yes this is a fantastic idea. Rewards for good behaviour!
So start everyone as a private and go from there, and like you both say stress that this is only for a bit of fun and to encourage play in the dMw way!
And we also need to stress that any rank given gives no power over a lower rank whatsoever, can't have someone 'promoted' then giving orders to a 'private', both not really appropriate and against the mission's leader too!
As long as I can be a sap(per) it's a banging idea.

Sadly, not an actual rank.
This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conductor_(Army)), however...
I like this idea and it is a laugh, Chaos is right there is no power with these just a laugh, but a subtle way to hinitng people who lead will go up quicker than those that dont. I was also thinking we could medal of the month, based on a person actions of extreme disregard for their saftey and a saving the mission to say not performing great and getting us all killed :)
This would be discussed in private and then presented on the forums.
I am thinking that all non admin people start at the bottom and then start to rank up.
Just need to figure out what gets you what. I think we might need a Google doc to remember who did what.
Toby
A Google Doc is probably a good idea so we can keep track of this.
We could have an honours board post on the main forum, where medal winners are listed along with a brief after-action report explaining what gallant act of bravery/foolishness got them on there :)
Yes, good ideas on the honours board and google doc just to keep note of both those doing specific 'good things' and those that are simply playing by the rules (who we should make sure we include in the rewards!).
We could simply make it so that the admins on the server any sunday (I assume ONLY official nights will count towards this) hang back on TS to have a quick 2 min chat about the game, and who played well, and then 1 of us goes and notes it up on the google doc.
Thinking out loud, would a post here edited every week after the game be a little easier than the google doc?
I dont think it will be cause there no easy way to collate it. Unlike a Google spreadsheet as we can more and more lines and info as the it goes.
I think it should be on any night as it will keep them in good order.
I will get a Arma admins TS channel installed on TS as that might help.
Just need to figure out opening rank for all them and what rank we should have for Admins and of course my rank :)
Guys can you please pm your email so I can set you up with access to this sheet.
many thanks.
Yup sounds good mate.
You can be 'Big Cheese'.
I hereby request Maverick, but who will be my Iceman?:flirty:

I think you may have
badly misunderstood the British Army rank system.
You do realise that anyone in the "Real" British Army will most definitely have a lot to say on this topic :norty: lol.
G'luck, great idea!

lucky he is in the RAF:)
I went to Sandhurst, do I get a head start? :)
Have added some ranks to see what you lot think, it is a group choice :)
What do we think of keeping a close eye on people this sunday, noting any achievements on the google doc post-game, and announcing the badges sometime within the next few days?
That way when we announce it we can potentially give out a rank increase at the same time for sunday's game, should anyone fit the bill of course...
That is, if we are happy with the idea as it is now? (which I am - oh and could we get a link to the google doc in the top post in this thread?)
