Post by: Sparko on February 11, 2015, 08:41:56 PM
DMW FLY IN WEDNESDAY 18th FEBRUARY

The February fly in will be a trip from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic (MDSD) to St. Maarten (TNCM) in the Caribbean

The theme for this fly-in is HEAVIES!! :yahoo: . Any big jet you can find is fine for this flight.  If you still want to join us on the fly in but dont fancy taking a 'heavy' then feel free to use one of the larger private jets if you wish. No props this fly in though please.

Any pilots interested meet on the server and TeamSpeak around 19:30 GMT ready for take off at around 20:00 GMT. server details can be found here (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?40345-FSHost-info-and-download-details)

Flight time is roughly 1 hour and 15 mins with a cruising speed of 300 knots (ish).  You can download the .pln file here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/flyk2bdjpxvshmi/MDSD%20Las%20Americas%20Intl%20-%20TNCM%20Princess%20Juliana%20Intl.PLN?dl=0) if you wish to import it into the FSX flight planner, alternatively the flight plan is below:

MDSD >> MIROX >> DARSI >> POBEP >> MELLA >> DDP >> MALIE >> STT >> JUICE >> TNCM

PLEASE NOTE: When you load this flight plan into FSX it will say that Las Americas, your departure airport, does not exit.  Just ignore this, you will spawn at the correct airport. (I think the name has changed since FSX was released)

You may think, 'thats a rather random place to have a fly-in', well..take a look at the landing you will be attempting below :norty:

Before joining the server be sure to have all air traffic turned off otherwise you will see AI aircraft on the ground and in the air.  Also please make sure you have read the server rules (here (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?40374-dMw-FSHost-Server-Rules)) so you are aware of the do's and don'ts.

If your new to FSX this is a great opportunity to come and learn the basics, im sure any questions you may have can be answered.

I hope to see you on the night, if you have any questions feel free to contact me or one of the admins or reply here :)

This will be fun as TNCM has no ILS, just a VOR beacon.   So it's VFR landing and you're over water all the way until the start of the runway - and more water at the other end if you're touching down too far along the runway or can't stop!

....and here's your VOR landing. courtesy of the FSX Mission (which you can practice before we video the crash)!

TCNM VOR is 113.0
Runway Heading 096

Happy landings!

lol..anyhew FSX SE is installed with all my orbx and aircraft..except pmdg737 and the  q400, which dont work, so alongside SE it is a fresh install of FSX disc edition with everything, so im up for Wednesday. I had to disconnect my steam drive to get the disc edition to take all the aircraft and scenary!

I'll be taking the base 747 from FSX on this flight and trying to stop a few hundred tons of aircraft-grade aluminium before the runway ends and the ugly water starts.

:thumb: I think I will take the plunge and go with the jumbo too.  Managed to land a 757 pretty easily with plenty of runway left so will crank it up a notch I think

Take off will be a little tight too, you need the best part of 10,000 feet at modest payload to get airborne and that's just under the runway length! :P

My chosen ride for the Fly-In.

Btw, is everyone happy with how to use VOR or should we link or post a quick guide to help?  There's plenty of videos on the net too.

Trying to learn it too and it's not easy, especially as I am stupidly splitting my time on other aircraft too.

..that's why I went with the 747 this time.

can you find the gps page (shift 3 or something) and program the route in there and manually use the autopilot to imput each course change, like you would in a light aircraft?

Afaiaa from the review, it has an FMS into which you program the waypoints and then execute the route to activate it

Just to mix it up a bit, I'm going to use a RAF Nimrod if its heavy enough? (180,000 lbs)
Stick all the way, no autopilot. GPS for Nav. I lurve a challenge, but maybe on the beach first.

I'll have to give up on this one. I have big troubles. Sim crashes and hangs. Much like it was with the Beech B200 at ENGM. I just have to try the default 737.
Have not had the crashing with any of my other planes/locations. It might be plane/location/scenery dependent.

There is s replacement DLL file that helps reduce the number if crashes, I despite it into mine and I rarely have problems now. I'll try to think where I found it.

I've given up on the camera for the moment, but I will definitely be taking the PMDG 777-200LR tonight.

In addition to Sparko's waypoints, I've added to the FMC:

MDSD SID MIRO2L
TNCM STAR GOUDA

KARIB UL337 TILIG UM525 MELLA G633 DDP B520 JUICE

and cause im premium i can download it  straight into the FMC. If you want a copy of the flight plan i can email you it tea? but it will be after work so about 1730

Post by: TeaLeaf on February 18, 2015, 02:10:02 PM
Yep, vroute does not provide you with the route Sparko posted in the OP.    Where did you get it from Sparko?

I'm manually entering the flight plan into the PMDG 777's FMC (part of the 'learning to fly it' process) but was sticking to the waypoints given by Sparko in the OP in case we wanted to fly within view of each other.  MIROX is actually a turn pretty much direct to TNCM, KARIB takes you out a bit further south before turning, but it's not a major difference.   The MIRO2L departure leads directly onto Sparko's preferred MIROX (unsurprisingly!) and therefore that's what I chose.

Entering the route into the PMDG 777's FMC is actually kind of fun.   I'm vroute premium too, so I have been using the fuel calc part too, to help improve my initial guesstimate of "about 8000kg/hr"!

Happy to switch routes if Sparko wants to use the vroute one, we can easily upload from vroute (which I think Sparko also has as he put me onto it in the first place) for whichever route we eventually use.
Title: dMw February 2015 Fly in
Post by: Sparko on February 18, 2015, 02:17:04 PM
I definitely used vroute to plan the route but may have selected the wrong AIRAC or whatever it's called.  The route I posted is only a guide so feel free to alter as desired. It's just so we tend to arrive one after each other really more than anything but if there is a better route feel free to use it.

Apologies if it's screwed up your fmc's guys
Title: dMw February 2015 Fly in
Post by: sulky_uk on February 18, 2015, 02:17:16 PM
i thought that using the vroute errr route would generate a little bit of separation as we dont want to arrive all at once as the buggers arent turn on the spot like the small stuff, if we had to hold for instance, but as my last waypoint is the same it shouldnt matter too much

edit the differance between the fsx generated route and the vroute one is about 6 mins flying so not too much of a problem  I think

You can teach me how to load it into FSX then as dumping it in the root PMDG\777 folder seems not to work (or I need to RTFM).

With the climb rate of the 777 I suspect I could leave last and still touchdown first!  I did a EGLL-EGBB flight (light fuel load) and was seeing climb rates of about 6000ft/min.
Title: dMw February 2015 Fly in
Post by: sulky_uk on February 18, 2015, 03:44:41 PM
I think there is a navdata one within the PMDG folder and it will have the routes for the default flights ie how to fly the 777 tutorial. I deleted all mine and put the route into that folder and it worked. Off the top of my head you need to request route on the one one of the pages and it will show you all the files in the nav folder.

all of the top of my head if you do a very quick google for when do i put flight plans for the fmc for pmdg77 it will show you where to put it and how to activate it
Title: dMw February 2015 Fly in
Post by: TeaLeaf on February 18, 2015, 03:47:19 PM
Yep, found that by accident!   It went in the FLightplans>777 folder.   Apparently the 737 has its own folder, so does the 777, but the 747 needs ot be in the Flightplans folder itself and not a sub-folder.  Go figure.

Forming an orderly queue for take off.

An enjoyable flight apart from the last millisecond.:taz: I'm blaming the add-on scenery, as I
had made several successful landings in the week. It was interesting to see the different
ground levels on rejoining, especially seeing a 737 only visible from the top off the fuselage
and no wings. Perhaps I should disable scenery add-ons in future.
I had also used www.SkyVector.com (http://www.skyvector.com) which enabled me to set up a pair of additional
waypoints in the flight planner which afforded me an accurate final approach.

If we ever return to the Caribbean, may I suggest a flight I took some 25 years ago, Grantley Adams
in Barbados to Mustique,  quick tour of the island, breakfast in the Cotton Club (no sign of Mr Jagger) and then a flight
south west to Union Island where we trolled around the Grenadines on a catamaran, lunch on board
at Petit Bateau, picked few conch shells and a quick slurp of some home-made rum from the captain,
cant recall the return journey. Oh to be young again
