An interesting article about how the origin of life could have come to pass (https://www.quantamagazine.org/20140122-a-new-physics-theory-of-life/).

How do simple atoms and molecules that do nothing more than fly about and bump into each other somehow become things that exhibit the properties of life i.e. absorbing light efficiently, using the energy to create structure and in so doing temporarily reversing Newton's Second Law of Thermodynamics and then returning the energy back as heat. Rather than it being a freak accident involving chemicals, lightning and some amazing luck, or just the work of a kind old man who lives in the sky, maybe it's the inevitable result of the Laws of Nature at work
