That depends whether or not you have set your house clocks to tie in with the server's time.  I mean, you could be up to a whole hour out

I was thinking of aiming to be there for circa 9.00am so that we have time to set things up, get everyone cabled into the switch, get the server up and running and get coffee etc before a morning's gaming kicks off.

Roger that, I'll join you for breakfast if that's all right Oldie  :D
In fact, assuming they are all coming I'd guess that you could add Gandalf, Smite, JB, JAS and Frenzy to that breakfast list.  Better order a table huh?

/me thinks they will stop serving breakfast at the hotel at about 9.30am

Post by: FatBob on October 07, 2002, 10:48:26 AM
Security is in the form of cctv cameras covering the car park and also all entrances and exits. as well there is only 1 entrance to the lan for which we will be holding the key. thats it !! if anyone need to bring their own rottweiler/guns then feel free (just dont take the guns to the bank ok!!).

Oldie - might be a good idea if you try and turn up a little earlier than last time - i seem to remember you got there about 10:30 due to a technical problem with your alarm

But more seriously i seem to remember we had probs with setting the server up, when you turned up & waved your magic wand  all was well & sorted - i think you cleaned & dusted the k/board - but it was enough :?

Hmm..if we have the key for the door does that not mean we can lock it from the inside and drink our own beer?  Then should the owners decide to look around we can swiftly hide it away somewhere.  For instance in a big box marked JB's beer.  This applies to unopened bottle's and cans only.

We've done several Lans over the past 2yrs or so and each one has had its own set of problems - which have eventually been sorted but  have generally taken a couple of hrs.

The server we were going to use for this Lan was meant to be the same one from previous but its been grabbed for work use so we've had to scout round to 'borrow' another - a P3 933mhz which FatBob is going to partially re-build.

It is possible black-adder will put in an appearance.... dont bet on it tho.  We've found it will only run old Linux kernels... weird eh?

Anyways, I've got about 1GB of HL games folder to download via me 512Kbit/s cable modem... so it may be ready in time.

Black Adder at the LAN would be nice, but not all games have a Linux server port :S

BTW Me and doggers are setting out at 7:30am.  Autoroute says its a 2:30 journey.... means we should do it in about 1:45 :-)

If were in time I'll be up for a brekki-feast.

I suggest that anyone who wants to be in on the initial round of breakfast egts there as early as possible.  Go to the hotel first because we can leave mobile tel numbers to tell peeps where we have gone to eat etc.

Bring your phone :)

I'm green with envy of you people. Me? I'm off for a romantic w/e in the New forest  :(  Where I'll be eating at the best restaurants, drinking fine wines and making love to a beautiful woman. But I'd rather being at the LAN. Have fun, don't stay up too late, don't drink too much, don't laugh, don't enjoy yourselves at all. If I can't why should you?
