Title: Google Cold Storage is here...... almost
Post by: smilodon on March 16, 2015, 10:03:36 PM
Google have launched a beta of their Amazon Glacier like product. In a nutshell it's cloud storage for stuff that needs to be retained but this isn't likely to be needed. So rather than being a Dropbox clone it's a archive service. For $0.01 per gigabyte per month you can save that data that you have to store for legal reasons etc. The reason it is so cheap is that you tend to have to pay to retrieve data and they speeds you get are traditionally slow. On Amazon it can take several hours to have your data prepared for retrieval. However it seems Google is hardly restricting the speeds at all.

For a Photographer that wants to save several terabytes of old photographs that I probably will not need to access it's a Cloud storage for a few pounds a month.
