So is that to deploy 1.1?
No client updates as of 23.46 CET.
There's a reason for that.....
QuoteWith the launch of Star Citizen 1.1, we are asking that backers re-install the game rather than update using the older launcher. The game features an all-new installer, which will make for a more solid installation. Think of this as spring cleaning for Star Citizen, clearing out over a year’s worth of accumulated data generated by previous patches.
So uninstall, get the 1.1 loader and reinstall from scratch.
Starting on the 21gb part of the DL now.
It's here! :)

Might as well cancel it and wait until the morning....

Trying it now. 25GB 4 MBps or 32Mbps, 1 hour 40 mins. Their CDN is going to have to be a beast to service a million citizens+ and this is working better than previous I would say! time to enjoy reading the update notes!
Thank the digital gods for aws

I have 120Mbps download top speed on my cable here in NL. I get 9.9MBytes per sec on a steam download, 4.3MBps is the highest I've ever got with SC. Is it hosted on AWS now? I think they have opimised the launcher and content delivery code, as it doesn't seem to be forever checking the file integrity, and it managed to resume with a brief check of the already downloaded files! All part of gradual improvements in the delivery process I suppose, 2 mins to go :D
I've had about and hour on Arena Commander now and I can safely say I suck at it. I got a couple of kills in Battle Royale but I was toast most of the time, some guys ramming a lot others just too good. The rate of death is unbelievable and I feel I can't control anything. I think we need to get our ideas and advice together for actually flying in the game because I for one could do with help.
If I have to take out my real ship in these conditions I'll be pooing myself every second.
I'm all for the big ships I think. I'm more admiral Adama than Apollo I think.
It's probably not very immersive but if you want to kill stuff in AC mouse and keyboard seem the best approach.
There's team co-op, team vs team and capture the beacon matches in AC now. We should try the co-op games.

Albert, try some Vanduul AI sessions, prior to going PvP.
Keep note of the try number, and how many waves you survived.
Tip: get some distance from opponents, turn around, line them up, and blow them up. If dog fighting, cut your engines and swivel on yourself and continue shooting for a couple of seconds once you make the strafing run. Swivel back, and go back to engine power. Save missiles for the named AI.
If an enemy is directly in your face(up close and personal), unload physical ammo in them. It shreds ships. The plan is to blow rammers up before they hit you, and the tip above works well with those too.

I was seeing 8MB/s, plus or minus 1 MB for the whole download. Time equivalent was one hour for whole reinstallation. Had you adjusted your region in the launcher settings? Mine defaulted to Americas but I changed to Europe so that might account for the difference.

This is so easily missed. Shame it doesn't set the default better. I can imagine it would improve their server loads too.
Just did the other PC and was getting 32.07 MB/s
That makes for one damn quick install. But I think it may also be stupid speed estimation windows....

Jumping straight into Battel Royale is a very "brave" thing to do, and is likely to put many people off the game if they don't have the right frame of mind.
Currently the public games tend to be populated with two main groups: the first are almost complete noobs with no real idea of how to fly and/or operate their ship, resulting in many deaths and lots of ramming; the second are very experienced pilots with dozens, if not scores, of hours under their belts, complete with tricked out setups designed to inflict the greatest damage.
A lot of spawn camping goes on as quite a few people are concerned about their epeen and just want to get high on the leaderboard regardless of how they get there, so many people simply get killed within a few seconds of spawning.
The ship you use will also have a big bearing on how well you do, with the Super Hornet being the king of the arena right now. That said, simply flying a SH won't make you a good pilot, but it would give you a fighting chance.
They've introduced co-OP Free Flight mode with this release, which is good for orgs like ours because it allows us to congregate and fight among ourselves without being attacked by peskie Vanduul or a time limit, so we can actually train for maneuvres, test out weapons and shields and even each other's ships!
Solo free flight is good for you to practice controlling your ship, playing with ship systems, etc. and when you're confident that you have the basics down, progress to single player Vanduul Swarm. From there we can play co-op VS or BR or Capture the Core together in private matches, and progress to public matches only when you feel confident to go up against other players.
Me and Sithafricaan are hoping to jump to do some coop and a play about tonight. I'm not a very competitive player but I do want to be able to handle myself. I should really put the contact list in.
First impressions:
Hangar runs *much* smoother for me. Still not perfect, but as a result of less graphics lag the head bob is much less of an issue for me now, almost negligible.
My joystick config is fubar, what should yaw rolls and my roll yaws. Damn confusing. Need to sort that before doing anything actually half tricky!
Once I've got the joystick sorted I'll be giving it another go, hopefully trying some docking etc.
I'm getting quite jaded with Battle Royale. Occasionally I find myself in with a decent group up against another decent group, but it's mostly random people flying around in a dis-coordinated mess and as mentioned a lot of camping goes on. I'm going to step back from multi player now as it's getting pretty pointless. However going on-line with the dMw in co-op and playing against the AI does sound like fun.
Stick setup is, of course, a personal preference thing, but I would recommend holding off switching roll and yaw back to atmospheric flight setup.
Like you, I preferred the atmospheric flight setup and, as that was how it originally came configured I was happy with it and threw a funny look in the direction of people who were complaining that it wasn't setup the other way around.
However, when the default was switched I gave it a go. I didn't like it and switched it back, but, following a discussion with someone else on the forums about the reasons for having Y-axis set to yaw and Z-axis to roll, I decided to give it another go. It took me a while (and even now I occasionally 'forget' and find my ship not going in the direction I'd intended) but I've gotten used to it, and is actually better and allows you to get on to a target much quicker than roll and pitch.
The reason why this is true is that, in space, there is actually no reason to roll. It purely orients your ship along its axis, without affecting its direction, and is only really needed when performing actions such as landing or docking. If you are in a dogfight and your target veers left, swinging your ship left is a single movement/motion that allows you to follow your target, whereas using atmospheric flight maneuvres, rolling (to bring your target to the top of your screen) followed by a pitch up takes longer. Not a lot longer, I'll admit, but enough to make a difference in a heated battle.
i would recommend that pilots keep pitch and yaw instead of pitch and roll and take the time to adjust to it and they will end up better (spaceship) pilots for it.
Aye we should totally be setting the standard.
I'll try that, I use them like aircraft controls both in SC and Elite.
I've had SC for a good 3 or 4 months now and still not even tried it due to Dragon Age and Elite. Will try to give this a go soon and look forward to joining up with you guys.

I need to get my head around this. I understand it, I'm just not sure how easy the transition will be when I am also flying FSX etc at the same time. Only one way to find out I guess.....
Food for thought Obsydian, thank you!

I thought I was an uncultured savage for doing this, its good to know that there is some reason behind it
