I've got Teamspeak working, or at least it appears to be working, and all set up with the dMw details so hopefully, I'll be able to jump in and join a few games at some point. I haven't played much Elite in the past 3-4 months, what with work commitments, so I might take some time this weekend re-familiarising myself with the various game systems before I to add myself to your list of burdens. I also might try and earn some scratch to upgrade from the Sidewinder so I might be of minimal use to the rest of you!

Come on TS and one of us can drop by the system you are in, give you a few tons of valuable cargo so you can upgrade your ship and then follow us back to "dMw space"
Various commanders are either trading or fighting most evenings.
You can earn 20-30K trade dividends by just Winging up with one of the larger ships in the group, so it's worth the journey.
I believe I'm currently in LHS 3447? I did a bit of checking, its about 150ly from Mari, which I think is your current stomping grounds. I'll confirm that when I get home.

Yep, you almost certainly started in Trevthick Dock. A few dMw's started there, as did my son. I started in Cosi.
LHS 3447 is a couple of hops in my Anaconda. I'll pick up some Palladium and swing by and drop some cannisters on you. You'll be able to upgrade to a multi-role trade ship like a Hauler or Adder and you'll be able to progress pretty easily from there.

When you are online, check TS and if anyone is in channel join them. Arithon or I will drop by your starting location if we're on TS at the same time as you. Normally weekday evenings or check at weekends randomly.
