Title: Your player name in CS ...
Post by: Dr Sadako on October 06, 2002, 12:54:15 PM
how did you pick it?

Well, I know a similar thread has been going on at N42 so why not start one here? ;)

Sadako
Comes from the Japanese horror movie Ring and Sadako is the evil character in the movie. The best horror movie I have ever seen.

QuoteWithin a week of watching a mysterious videotape, a group of teenagers are dead. The bodies are found gruesomely contorted, their eyes frozen as if they had seen something more terrifying than any physical threat.
The video then becomes an urban myth. Insidiously, an unseen force is pointing its deadly finger at those poor souls unable to resist their curiosity. One of those people is cynical journalist Reiko, who soon finds herself unwillingly drawn into a spiralling nightmare of fear from an unseen, omnipresent threat.
The most unsettling film since The Exorcist, with an unnatural presence that touches every nerve in your body, 'Ring' is a beast of an entirely different order. Critically acclaimed as one of the most frightening horror films in years, 'Ring' delivers a tense, spine-chilling atmosphere, filled with an overwhelming sense of dread and a potent presence of unworldly evil. Dark, sinister and genuinely horrifying, this is a film you will never forget

Post by: Gandalf on October 06, 2002, 01:33:59 PM
Well, Gandalf is self evident. As for the end, I used to play doom and doom2 on an old bulletin board with a load of others, and part of the bulletin board was a live chat room. (Gaming was expensive then kiddies :) used to dial directly to wales. My mother wasn't impressed with the phone bill!! )

Anyway, I just started shouting 'jelly' when the conversation wasn't going anywhere and after a while they asked why. I used to eat loads of jelly at school and black cherry was my fave! Anyway, whenever Gandalf is registerd on web sites and stuff, I use JellyLord or LordOfJelly depending on my mood, and as there were loads of Gandalf's who play CS I decided to add the two.

My sanity can now be questioned.

Well JB is my initials so that was easy, El Kabong was the alter-ego of the carton character Quickdraw mcGraw and Urang Utang was nothing to do with monkeys, gorillas or anything like that it's from Vic and Bob's show shooting stars.

That link was so disappointing Doorman. I was expecting to see pics of a bodybuilder type, wearing a bow tie beating some skinny teenager to a pulp outside of Dukes nightclub.

Post by: TeaLeaf on October 07, 2002, 07:54:50 AM
My tag was a joke, literally.  I used to play under than name Bear (as that is a long standing nick for me) but one day, I found my self on a public server with 3 other people who had Bear in their names - I needed something a little different.  At the same time I was getting really annoyed with the self-centred frag-hunting that was going on the public server I was on.

I had already found N42 and was getting more into the objective style of play and wished that the public server could be like that.  So to amuse myself I changed my name to something a little more light-hearted.  [TEA]_Leaf was born.

[TEA]_Leaf was obviously a more memorable name as I found that people on N42 and public servers remembered the name and said 'lo again' when I joined the server, which encouraged me to talk to peeps more, which encouraged better team-based play.  So being [TEA]_Leaf and enjoying team-based CS I began to harbour humurous but only semi-serious aspirations of launching my own [TEA] clan.  I was thinking that Clan [TEA] would have members who were all really good blokes, all liking objective and team based CS, but with decent names like [TEA]_Cake, [TEA]_Cup, [TEA]_Towel, [TEA]_Time, [TEA]_Pot, [TEA]_Cosy etc.

Then I saw Dogger's post in the CS ng offering to start up a UK PCS server.  I replied to his post, and started playing on the new UK PCS server called MeatHook.  That was back in October 2001, when -=[dMw]=- moved to a dedicated server for the first time.

I gradually began to realise that my half-hearted wishes for a Clan [TEA] were never really going to become a reality as I liked the peeps on the MH too much - they were all really good blokes.  After playing on MH for some 3 months and enjoying the style and quality of both the peeps and the CS play, I joined -=[dMw]=- on 7th January 2002.  As everyone called me TeaLeaf anyway, and clan tag systems couldn't cope with -=[dMw]=-[TEA]_Leaf, my name changed from to -=[dMw]=-TeaLeaf.

There, that's the name story and some -=[dMw]=- history for you.  It all seems sooooo long ago......

I think my alias came about partly from the condition I usually ended up in round after round of Action Quake and partly from a desire to stop people posting stuff like "ur dogmeat pal"...

My name started life as Agamemnon. He was a ancient greek warrior king who was murdered by his wife. It got shortened to Aga just because it was easier to say, and now I'm only associated with ovens.

When I first started playing Doom and then moved onto Quake, Jailbreak mod and CTF, and then Quake II and TFC and AQ I used to be FiFi. When I first looked around there were all these macho names and it seemed a bit silly to call myself Deathbringer (or somehting) if I was a bad player, So I went for something soft and fluffy :o) ahh.  8O
But then there were a load of other players using FiFi in their names so I thougt I change it to Sn00ks. It comes from a book my girlfriend read and she started calling me that, and Snookums. :o) Ahhh!

Do I really have to explain my name?

'OldBloke' is what my son Nik (Frenzy to you) has always called me (after he stopped calling me Daddy that is).

So when we both got into multiplayer gaming it was a natural thing for me to call myself that.

I do like to change it occasionally for the publics. My favourite is:

If you had stood, on a bright day some Ten years ago, by the banks of the Ohio River, you might have seen a strange procession coming down stream. You would have seen two birch-bark canoes securely lashed together and piled high with leathern bags brimming full of appleseeds, and in the midst of the strange craft a small, wiry man with long, dark hair, keen black eyes, and a scanty beard that had never known the razor. On his head rested a tin dipper, while his body was clad in tattered garments that had once done duty as coffee-sacks.

fbg is an acronym for flubber blubber gibber, which was unfortunately the result of an extremely long and very hard evening of drinking, those words being the only thing coherent in my vocabulary.

A flibber meisterer is someone who fits the above description after a night on the tiles
