Post by: Liberator on May 01, 2015, 02:24:04 PM
These are the two main bugs that are affecting most of us.

Assassination Missions  (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=124209)

F2 Pulse Turrets (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=127413)

Is a lack of "Seeking luxuries" considered a bug? :D

I've had a workaround for the assassination missions for a while now. Thought everyone knew it, sorry. I got it from the ED official forums, so I assume Frontier are aware:

* The bug preventing you from finding your assassination target only occurs when you get the 'alternative target' contact before you get the 'target last spotted in X' contact. If this happens, it prevents you from ever finding the original contact, you can only find the alternative.
* Your mission only gets updated with the alternative target if the person giving the updated info finishes their 3 'send' spiel.
* Shooting a target causes them to stop talking to you.
* You can tell whether a contact is going to give you the 'alternative target' or 'target last spotted in X' spiel from the contents of their first communication to you.

Thus I drop into any USS when hunting for an assassination target and immediately deploy hardpoints, target any contact in the area and come round to bear on them. If they start with a spiel about an alternative contact (for example "So you're the guy X sent to take down Y"), I shoot them a single time. This stops them from completing the spiel. I might also get a minor (200 Cr or so) fine for attacking a neutral target, but big whoop. I just go and pay it off at the nearest station when i'm done in the system (i.e. when i've got the communication I want). They might also start trying to attack me, but they don't manage to do any real damage before I re-enter supercruise. Rinse and repeat until you get a spiel about the original target's last known location ("Whew, I only just got away with my life", or whatever) as the first communication, at which point you listen to the whole spiel, get the required system, jump to there and continue hunting for the target.

I have been told that once you have been given the single system the target was last seen in by a contact in the Galaxy it doesn't matter if you then also get an alternative target, you will still be able to find the original. I can't confirm or deny this, as my instincts have got so twitchy that I shoot as soon as I see the first 'alternative target' type communication from a contact, no matter what point in the mission I am at.

I've been using this system for quite some time now, and I've never failed to find my assassination target. Sometimes it only takes me 5 minutes, sometimes it takes half an hour (due to lack of USSes showing up in the target systems, or having the 'alternative target' contact 3 or 4 times and having to shoot them every time, or whatever), but i've never failed to find my target where before I was sometimes taking upwards of 2 hours searching after having my mission updated with an alternative target, and never finding the original. I generally collect 3-5 assassination missions in the same general area, with an overlap of the systems I have to search within, and then go hunting for them all at once in the systems that they overlap in.

Also, I have discovered that assassination contacts who are 'General somebody' (often 'General Gen. somebody', which is a bug in itself) are a) In Federal Dropships not Anacondas (Which is odd when they're not Federation allied...), and b) Not named when you target them or they talk to you. I once spent over an hour searching for a specific target of this type, and was getting very frustrated that it seemed like every USS I dropped into contained a green (allied) Federal Dropship, who was listed as 'System Authority' but attacked me on sight even though I was not wanted/bountied. Eventually I attacked and destroyed it in my frustration, only to get a 'Mission Updated' notification saying to go and collect my reward. I've since done a good number of the 'Kill General X' assassination missions, and they've all been like this.

The "Workaround" is listed in the thread, but why should you have to become wanted because of a bug that's been present for months.

Content addition seems to be their focus at the moment and instead of taking the missions out of the job boards, they have left them in and allow people to keep having to look in the forums for an answer, obviously by this time they are already screwed.
