Just a heads up for any potential bus drivers out there!
This Friday, CIG are putting the Genesis-class Star-Liner up for sale. It'll be $400 plus vat.
Quote- Genesis-class Starliner â€" The Genesis is yet another landmark in Crusader Industries’ proud history of transport designs. This ship utilizes award-winning manufacturing techniques and the highest quality parts to create one thing; a next-generation passenger ship at a price that won’t break your budget. Crusader Industries’ proprietary NeoG engine technology offers some of the most efficient flight for a ship of its size. The Genesis line has been cited in Whitley’s as “one of the most reliable and safe public transport ships on the market.†Genesis Starliners are available in a number of stock configurations, focusing on everything from passenger capacity to freight to overall comfort. The UEE military operates multiple Genesis conversions for support roles, including SWACS and starflight test operations.
I'm afraid that I am struggling to see either (1) why the community voted for this one, and (2) what on earth I would do with one in-game. So I do not intend to open the wallet for it.

I'll add the ship as an option on our fleet tool for you then

Well, not everyone wants to go around blowing stuff up (or getting blown up), and people have to be able to get around, and the lore says that that is done mainly via star liners like this.
Originally, these were going to be NPC-only, but CIG obviously had a change of heart as there are quite a few people out there who would love nothing better than to be an airline pilot in space! :)
Have you seen the 15 minute segment on the Genesis in this week's Around the Verse? It looks very interesting; much bigger than Ben had led us to believe and the troop carrier configuration simply screams "Org Ship!" ;)
I haven't seen the video yet, it if scheduled for post-BBQ watching on Sunday!

Funnily enough we've been screeming out for a bus driver in Elite. When your ship is docked somewhere 150LY away and you want to get it and bring it to home base the only option is to buy a small disposable ship go fetch.
It actually looks rather interesting. They've made a real effort to market this one. Read about half the blurb and still want to read more.

There seems to have been a bit of a mix up in the Fleet Tool as we seem to have two entries: one for Genesis and one for Starliner :P
could someone amalgamate them into a single entry 'Genesis Starliner' please? Ta. :)

Oops! Sorted :)
I must admit. I'm rather underwhelmed with regards to this sale. Its not because its a 'star bus' - I like that aspect of it. But $480 for a ship with this kind of spec? It doesn't make sense. Compare it for a moment in real world terms and you might get an idea of what I mean:
Boeing 747-400: costs about $230,000,000 (wikipedia)
An F-35C: costs roughly $116,000,000 (wikipedia).
Using those kinds of economics and allowing for an adjustment; there is roughly a $100,000,000 difference between the two. So, in my opinion (and its only my opinion), it should be roughly $250 dollars (about $100 more than the F7C Hornet). I think thats conservative. Its beginning to feel like a focused effort to obtain money for wealthier backers now. Don't get me wrong - love the game, and I know i'm not forced to buy anything. Its just for the price, it seem way too niche. Thoughts?

I say again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf31MzNgnNk&feature=youtu.be
You could add this to anything and it's still genius.
I agree. The original subject matter was nowhere near as funny. I just love the part about concept ships.
Q&A #1 sealed it. It's not for me at this point. Perhaps in-game maybe.
I'm not quite sure about being a passenger ship captain (although I might give it a try), but I got one as I thought it might make a good org ship, and I quite like the idea of us having a racing team, and it being the team bus, transporting both the pilots, engineers, racing ships, spares and tools to/from races.
With regards to being an org ship, it does have some competition from the 890 Jump, but we have yet to see internal layouts of that (the original one has most likely been trashed after getting a slating from the community), but the Genesis does come with multiple redundancies built in, huge power plants (6 of them!) and massive shielding and armour - essentially it is designed to take a beating while trying to run away (something you want if you've got 40+ org mates on just the one ship!).

That's true, I had not looked at it that way.
I'm still not sure how it fits the price point though. Which is a shame because its a great idea.
