Title: Mining Event is up
Post by: Ranualf on July 09, 2015, 12:52:28 PM
Building upon our previous evening (Tuesday) which saw several of us go out and mine the rocks of Disci, and netted ourselves a decent amount of cash.
FD have decided to promote the mining of ore by putting on a community event, and the only way to get Osmium is via mining.
My thoughts are:
1.Locate our quest hub and grab the mission
2. Find a decent system (pref near) and form up a wing and go out again.
3. Security will probably be needed, so fetch a KWS and make some extra creds off the naughty pirates

ABRES' MINERAL MISERY
Description:

Much needed supplies in Abres are running low. An immediate influx of Osmium is needed to keep the local operations on track. The lack of the materials could lead to huge economic downturn, unemployment and civil unrest.

The Abres Advanced Network have put out an urgent call to all commanders in the area. They are offering various incentives for all Osmium delivered to Pangborn Dock.
Help the citizens of Abres avoid chaos, keep the wheels of industry moving and earn some credits on the side.

System: Abres
Station: Pangborn Dock

Objective: Sell Osmium to Pangborn Dock
How: Mine from Metallic asteroids
Ends: 13 July 3301 15:00

Current Global Progress: 10 Tonnes Collected

I  found a High intensity RES at BD+73 447

Made about 600k off the event so far, but it seems a little tough to bring in loads of osmium, i managed 21 tons and 46 tons of silver, 12 tons of gold, and other assorted crap.

Combat wise it was fairly quite, only got a few attacking pirates. Killed them off and kept mining..

The High intensity RES has a lot of good ore, and high percentages of it, i was getting 21% + silver 24+ gold, Beryllium etc, etc
So you do not need to bring so many limpets.

Seems that the mining event is going to fall flat on it its face...

I made 200k or so off mining, before i was forced to retreat from the RES, twice in a row.. this upset me some, so i turned the Python into a killing machine..
After racking up 2 million worth of bounties, i figured i`d go grab the fat cigar of death..

It seems that the res is geared towards exactly what ship you have and what stuff is on it.
I went back in with the Anaconda with a 6b shield and 2x 6b shield cell boosters.. had a load of dropships and clippers, usually worth 115- 180k each very nice..also some vultures

I Decided to test my theory and went out, and changed my load out, with a 5B shield, but kept both 6b boosters.. seems i got wings of sidewinders, eagles and adders
It seems that this will need more testing to see what exactly is needed for to trigger the larger ships, but the High Intensity res are in fact a bit weak, unless you are mining (and have less stuff for combat on your ship), then its a lot tougher.

Overall i made about 200k off mining and about 4.5million off bounties!
Looks like the guns win everytime :P

Yep, I had the same thoughts when comparing the previous metal trading one, and the latest bounty hunting CG.

Took me much less time, and gained four times as much cash, with a very limited amount of enemies available.

I will state that the RES combat is weird..
Sometimes its pretty much dead, nothing (worthwhile) to shoot for 15+ mins, then there`s the sudden appearance of wings of 4 sidewinders, followed immediately by some vipers, and more sidewinders.. making of a near endless chain of killing.. It`s also tough on your ship unless you have a LOT of shield boosters and shield cell boosters.
Even my type 5 shield dot dropped (3 boosters) on the python, so i went for a 6b+  2 shield cells, and reinforced armour (hey its free when you sell it back!)

Some of the Deadly+ AI are insanely tough, i was blasting at a Clipper at near point blank range for a few mins before i dropped its shields! This was followed by some taster dropships, which seem tough (yes they have a LOT of armour) but just go for the powerplant, and stay topside of them and they are very tame.
After going out to rearm+reload all i got was sidewinders + the odd Cobra, Viper.

Going back in now, as i`m 80% through master TALLY HOOOOOOOOOOOOO, pew pew lasers!

I was killing elite clippers without much trouble with a beam + 3 multiguns.  It was at a nav point though, and some others which I interdicted.

In a cobra mk3, having all pips in weapons results in the beam firing almost indefinitely.  Not sure about other ships though.

Shield are no issue if you're doing 1vs1 and keeping the target in front of you most of the times.  Wings are though, depending on what ships are in them.

Talking to Sarah Jane Avory at the weekend, she said that there was a bug in the AI currently (soon to be fixed) where Elite ships were not using chaff or shield cells. This bugs will be fixed by the next update, so expect to face harder NPCs.

There should be a clear difference between ranks of NPCs in the game after the next update.

My opponents were using chaff, infact gimbaled weaponry was going nuts when the shiny particles were visible.
