Post by: Ranualf on July 23, 2015, 05:25:04 PM
Great news everyone! the slime pipes are..umm wrong instance..

The people over at FD have just dropped some great news, which means we (as a community) can now have our own faction*

*Disclaimer - Depending upon how FD implement it, this may take "some timeâ,,¢" and more than likley require a LOT of players input for it to happen..

Does this mean they're implementing something similar to eve controlled space?

Say we manage to emerge as a power, would that result in the entire universe wanting us dead apart from our initial pocket?

I`ve not played EVE - so i have no idea.

From what i've read between the lines, it seems that we would (eventually) end up with our own independent system(s), much the same as any other independent faction that we support.
I've been doing a fair bit of rep grinding (wanting new rank and all that), and Michael stated that the mechanics for the player factions are the same as the current in game ones.

He also discussed that the top x amount of player factions could end up in "civil war"and that it would work much as the current conflict zones work, with the winner being promoted to top dog and expanding their influence.
There are a lot of questions to be asked on this - as some factions could literally be 400 light years apart, on opposite ends of the galaxy. Although he did make a referance to the community events- and that it "could" work like that.

Lots more to be done on this by FD, so dont hold your breath.

I've already told Albert a bit of this, but I had the chance to chat with Frontier devs at LaveCon. They were hinting heavily that community integration into the game would be coming in 1.4.

From Michael Brookes developer diary post, more details have emerged. The short version, is gaming groups apply to the Frontier community admins (Ed, Brett & Zac) and let them know about their group, the name they'd like to use in game and the planet they want to start at, and Frontier will then add them as a minor faction. With 1.4, minor factions will be able to build up to becoming actual Powers if they have enough support.

There won't be station ownership (at this point) or managed facton funds, so it is nothing like a Guild in Eve (as I understand it).

More details should be forthcoming (maybe in newsletter?) but I think this is part (but not all) of the "big" GamesCom announcement. How this will interact with private groups, is not clear. We don't know if you would then "pledge" to a minor faction and presumably it would not mean you couldn't serve a power as well.

Michael did say that if a community faction rose to become a Power, they would also remain a minor faction too.

I've not given up on ED and will return soon but (trying not to sound like a broken record) I would need to see more team-based content if I'm not going to feel bored again and so take another break. I like the idea of forming a dMw faction and will add my support to, hopefully, make it happen.
