Title: Patrick Rothfuss - The Kingkiller Chronicle
Post by: albert on August 24, 2015, 03:57:52 PM
I found a nice article on Flip board about the best new fantasy and Sci Fi books. Rothfuss came top, an absolute must. So far The Name of The Wind is a joy.

I loved his acknowledgement.

Thank you, I've transferred both his books from the NAS to my ereader for consumption!

The list seems quite good, or at least I seem to have read quite a few of them in the list and now have some fresh fodder to munch on!

I'm about half way through the first book (Name of the Wind) and really enjoying it!

My brother and my best friend both recommended it to me and they both love the series so far. I think the 3rd book is not too far away from being released.

Did you know that he finished the series off in 2013 with The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant: The Runes of the Earth, Fatal Revenant, Against All Things Ending and The Last Dark?

I didn't know that so thanks, Smite :thumb:

I'm off to read some reviews just to make sure he wasn't just topping up his pension plan :D

I find that with fantasy books it's not about the money to buy the books it's about the time it takes to read 'em. Robert Jordan went to 12 books, 2 or so of them posthumous.

LOL, I got through the boring books, something you failed at :P, persevered to book 14 and was rewarded with a good ending.
When re-reading the books, something I do every couple of years, I skip read books 6,7 & 8 so I don't lose the will to live :D

It took so much time between them I forgot the story and gave up. I tried to pick it up again and thought 12 or so books! To he'll with that!

I'm about 75% through 'The Name of The Wind' and, although well written, I'm finding the Hogwarts-like back-story a bit of a drag. I hope it gets going soon or the 2nd book will be off the agenda.

I know what you mean but I think it gets better as it goes along. It gets really good at the end left me wanting to read the next book.

I've read the 3 books Rothfuss has written to do with that series (2 full and one novella) and loved them. I went onto the Anthony Ryan - Raven's Shadow series which is also very good, a bit more fast paced but well written.

I adore these Kingkiller Chronicle books. Randomly picked up Name of the Wind a few years back in a hostel and was hooked within pages.
Is there any news on the 3rd book's release date? I'll have to re-read the first two I think.

I read the spin off book about Auri i who lives under the grounds of the school, The Slow Regard of Silent Things. Very different but such a nice read. I hope Rothfuss continues to do this at his own pace. No rush.

I am reading the naval novels from Dudley Pope, the Ramage novels https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dudley_Pope I must say I am totally ensnared. The quality of writing and mix of action and historical reference is perfect. Genius fiction.

Yeah he said he wasn't going to rush any of these books, especially since he makes a living from short stories. For it's worth waiting until all 3 are available as I found them difficult to put down so far.
