Title: how about GameVox rather than TeamSpeak
Post by: Gunda on August 25, 2015, 08:31:53 AM
https://www.gamevox.com/en/

I've been using one of there servers for a while now, you can get a free 600 user server and it works really well, it is also cloud bases so for instance like lastnight when the server barfed and we lost not only CS:GO and the forums, but also TeamSpeak, if we had been using GameVox no-one would have lost connectivity to the voice chat.

Please move my post if its in the wrong place :)

The dMw Gamevox server is ready for testing.

I'm struggling to get our channels imported from our TS server so, for now, we'll go with what's there.

Install the GV client and use this link to get an invite.

The password is as per our TS server.

I really like some of the features GameVox provides. Making someone in your channel 'Priority Speaker' makes everyone else's comms in that channel much quieter when they are speaking. The 'Groups and Permissions' system is very easy to understand and configure. The separate Friends and Messaging windows gives it a kind of Steam Friends function. Voice quality is very good but not quite on a par with TS. The GUI is full-featured and easy to navigate.

I only have a couple of minor gripes. There's no 'whisper channel' function and there's too much room given to the display of user's data making a busy channel very 'long'. But this is a beta so these and other functions might be in the wings.

Please give it a try and let's have your feedback too.

Thanks Oldie.

The Priority Speaker would certainly be a boon in Arma.

Will install and have a go.

Nice little chit chat with Oldie. I like it a lot. There are plenty of little touches that make it a lot easier to use and less busy than TS. But the fact that it has Priority Speech (ideal for any game where we have leaders (Arma, WOW etc.)) and doesn't sit on our own server is the main plus. Now that so many of our games are hosted remotely if we loose our own server these games won't lose comms as well.

Probably worth a stress test if we can use it for a game that has a lot of users. As CS:GO is still working through it's own issues maybe Arma, WOW or Racing might want to try it out?

I will have a look tomorrow and encourage the cs admins to give it a go.
It will be handy to have something that won't go down when BA5 has the rare hiccough.
