Title: New to the servers and the forum
Post by: Sixthor on August 31, 2015, 07:50:08 PM
Hi boys and girls!

I've been visiting the CS:GO server(s) a few days in a row now and would just like to introduce myself a bit...

In-game name: [ELAK] SjuSortersApa
Explanation: [ELAK] is a fun-clan that me and a few friends started, but unfortunately I'm more or less the only one left playing. My nick is Swedish and means literally "SevenTypes(of)Monkey".
Most of my friends just call me "apa" = "monkey" in-game.
Real name: Jimmy
Age: 34
From: Gothenburg, Sweden
Family: Wife and son

Played a bit of CS 1.6 about 8-10 years ago or something, but never really stuck to it. Otherwise I've been playing FPS-games ever since Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, with most of my years spent on QuakeWorld: TeamFortress (and MegaTeamfortress) as well as the Quake 3 mod "Urban Terror" (which is now stand-alone). Both of these I played competitive and did very well both individually and with my clans. After this I went playing Battlefield 1942 a bit and when BF2 came it really hit home with me. Been stuck in the Battlefield trenches ever since, playing each of the following games extensively as well. Only did some clan matches in BF2 and BF2142 and after that just played for fun...

As most of my friends have stopped playing, I was looking for something new to fill the void after a while and thought I'd give CS:GO a chance. Right away it felt really awkward and alien compared to the less "arcadey" Battlefield-franchise and I was pretty much done with it after just a couple of nights. Then I randomly stumbled across your server and all of a sudden found a mature(?) gang of seemingly like-minded gamers. All communicating with each other, playing the objective and having fun while doing it, instead of hearing various kids yelling in foreign languages and bragging about their AWP-skills. To be honest, if I hadn't found your server and your clan (and friends), I would've stopped playing. Now I'll keep it up a while longer and see how I progress. I'm still having a very hard time with the game mechanics, but so many years of learning other games are bound to need some "un-training"... :)

I hope you accept me into your merry bunch and I appologize for any noobness and any (more) silly questions that I might have...

/Jimmy aka SjuSortersApa

Welcome to the forums. Nice resume!
Don't worry about silly questions within CS, just ask away.

Have fun on the forums and servers.

Hi and welcome Jimmy!

Have you thought about Arma 3 ?  If you're looking for a battlefield experience which isn't arcadey then you won't do much better than this MilSim.

Great first post btw!

Hi Jimmy and welcome!   Sounds like you'll be right at home here and yes we are a mature bunch, but then we've been going since 1996, so we're allowed to age a little bit :P    Quite a few members have their (mature) children playing here now too!

Take a look at the dMw LAN parties (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?41423-LAN-XXVIII-Booking-Thread) we organise too, I think we have about 42 of us meeting up in October with about 12 people flying in from Norway/Holland/Malta to join us for a great social long weekend.

And when you need to look for a new game, look no further than our Star Citizen (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?453-Star-Citizen-MMO-amp-Squadron-42-single-player) section!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome - both here and on the server! Starting to slooowly get into the game and at least I'm finishing top-half every now and then with both plants and defuses to help the team (if I'm not completely lost on a new map) :)

Great first post btw!

I tried some Arma II (and DayZ) but wasn't a big fan of either. I've heard from some co-workers that Arma 3 is a lot more evolved and polished, but I think if I'm going to play "war games" again, I'll go back to BF4... I still play it sometimes and have fun, but it's always more fun to play with people that you know. To be honest, the thing I miss most in CS is choice... you have like 3-4 different routes to take and that's it. I tend to be a calculative (read: flanking) player in BF and not attack head on or through the most common paths. In CS/CS:GO there aren't that many options... oh and there are no choppers in CS!! I miss them! ;(

We have quite a few mission makers here and play coop missions lasting up to 2 hrs.  The missions range from something really simple to more complex with a back story and some use choppers !! We use a revive system rather than re-spawn which adds to the game play.  We take turns leading (but only if you want to) so if you have a flanking strategy in mind that would be your chance to test it out.

If you can, come and give it a go with us.

Hey Mate,

Welcome!

There is quite a delay in writing this because Ironically I am working in Sweden for 3 months away from England.

Anyway See you about on TeamSpeak and CS:GO when I have a stable internet connection.

Cheers,

DZ.
