Hey everyone!
Guild Wars 2's core game is free for anyone to try and I urge anyone and I mean ANYONE who thinks they hate stereotype MMORPG's to give it a try, since its nothing like them, its beautiful intensely deep story and fantastic gameplay.
You've got nothing to lose and the core game is mesmerisingly stuffed with content.
If you'd like to join a couple of us like myself and Galatoni, we are on UNDERWORLD EU
Seriously, you select your server once and its fixed unless you pay to change, so make sure you get on ours!
Would be great to see any of you there, there's a ton of fun gameplay to enjoy, its not all grind and no fun.
Also, JumpPuzzles, you never tried them, try them. Addicting masochistic fun!
And if that isn't good enough, holiday events include crazy alternate universes check out the super adventure box!
Seriously.
Best regards, your resident south african!
We had a clan once when it launched, however the interest level was low and it was shelved. It's still in the games that no longer float our boat section.
also add me as Chesticles.9752 :-D
Assuming I can create a ranger/hunted hottie barbarian girl, I'll give it a go.:)
Quote from: smilodon;403480Assuming I can create a ranger/hunted hottie barbarian girl, I'll give it a go.:)
Judging by the name above I think you might be in luck my good man :)
i've created a hottie ranger/hunter nordic female on the underworld server.
I rolled a Charr Engineer in the end, seemed more appropriate..... and less weird than playing a girl :D
i'm online as Sneakytiger.1826 if u want to add me
smilodon.7102 And it's actually a really really great MMO, vastly better than WOW in the complete lack or a grind. Sort of Star Wars Online done right.
Really hmm you have called out a couple of games recently that have turned out to be good eggs...
Sent from my Nexus 5
Except that tonight the game imploded and wouldn't start. So I've uninstalled and will try a reinstall tomorrow.
I'll be online from about 6pm tonight if u have any problems smilo.
I'll admit I'm actually tempted to drop the £35.00 for the Heart of Thorns expansion. I'd like to see more of the game first but I'm just confused as to how this completely passed me by.
It is a great game, i have several lvl50's but i am on the North American servers since the guys i used to play with were American. I might have to investigate to see if i can move on toon on over to EU...
Angry Jo gives a very nice summary of the game.
Some bad language so not completely work safe
I'm very tempted after 6 minutes of Angry Jo....
Great to hear more of you are joining us guys, by sheer miracle I've got the guild name sorted for DeadMenWalking [dMw] which is REALLY lucky since they dont actually offer guild name changes, so Galatoni's and my efforts aren't in vane getting it set up. All are welcome and I cant wait to see you all in game! pop me a message if you need invites!

easy to do ingame but it costs a few gems, Galatoni did exactly this :-)
Aye. I'm in on this :) I haven't played an MMO in YEARS! I'm actually really enjoying it. Surprised.
For those of you just starting out, this is really the simplest of intro videos just to cover some real basics, especially if you've not been in the MMO scene for a long while!
It also covers some of the restrictions up to level 10 for free accounts!
I'm nopeanuts.7034
I just dropped the thirty five quid for the full game plus the upcoming expansion. As a player that likes exploring worlds and following the games lore I'm loving GW2. What is a complete revelation is the random events that pop up all over the place, the wonderfully easy way that players can team up to complete quests without penalty or problem and of corse the Charr are amazing. Think of a Tauren crossed with a Lion, with the mindset of an Orc, the technology of a dwarf and who organises themselves like a Roman Legion....... with guns! :D
this is going to be fuuun :)

Can't beat a Norn woman when comparing looks ;)
And the GW2 endgame is aesthetics mate.
maybe a gw2 ts channel now then?
can some 1 add nopeanuts.7034 to the gw2 dmw guild plz i dont have permission.
I played the 1st Guild Wars a lot & really enjoyed it, didn't bother with any of the expansions as I'd just about had enough of it by then, but I'll give this a look now it's gone free, signed up & d'ling as I type.
R i z Z y.7281 is me.
Due to the recent interest I've moved this thread into the Guild Wars 2 forum and moved the forum out of 'Games that No Longer Float Our Boat' and into the main gaming forum. I'll see about a TS channel although we could probably use Ad Hoc or an empty channel for now.
The Deadmen guild on Gandara also has some upgrades from when GW2 launched.
The full name was already taken back then.
We seem to be returning to Underworld, or that's where I was told to go. Is there an issue with moving our guild?
I don't see any issues, apart from starting back from square one. Depending on the amount of people playing from the same world, a deadstart might not be a massive setback. One can be in multiple guilds too, however you must be representing a guild to gain influence for said guild. Unfortunately, the multi-guild representation feature was the most frustrating issue I had to deal with on a daily basis, as dMw'ers and other recruits were representing other guilds.
With the megaserver thing, one doesn't even need to be on the same world to play together. However influence earned is assigned to that specific server, unless they changed it. The same logic applies to guild bonuses.
In the end, server selection only becomes crucial when taking into consideration WvWvW (Large scale PvP).
You'd have to ask sith. From what I understand he was underway and he's decided to use the existing guild.
FYI Account name is JakeTheSnake.2438 (don't ask)
Jamoe.8239 (old account on underway)
Quote from: Galatoni;403741You'd have to ask sith. From what I understand he was underway and he's decided to use the existing guild.
Which one exactly? The new one in Underworld, or the old one in Gandara?
New one. He set it up
I've just joined a dMw Guild on Underworld? I assume it is the current one? I guess it's ultimately down to the Game Leader which is the official server and Guild. I'd like to know at some point as I can re-roll easily enough being level 20. I'm not sure about how others would feel though.
Originally at GW2 launch, dMw was on Gandara in a guild called Deadmen. The dMw population over there died out after some months. I can't recall the exact number but it was a couple of months after the Fractal dungeons were out, just about when guild dungeons were released.
Now, depending on how advanced the new guild on Underworld (Upgrades) is, then it might be, or might not be worth reconsidering which server to play on.
Other server considerations need to be done depending on the playstyle wanted. PvE means whichever. PvP (WvWvW) is a different story entirely as it's servers against each other, and servers with low pop or PvE oriented players will result in a WvWvW disaster. Previousely (not sure now), leading in a WvWvW war meant server wide bonuses.
yeah underworld is the server we are on now.
Unfortunately, Underworld is one of the worst servers to play on, as it's ranked 26 out of 27 and that means that the WvWvW bonuses (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Power_of_the_Mists) which can climb to considerable levels, suck. I still recall that we used to capture their entire WvWvW area when they were up against Gandara back in the day. Now it seems that they have sunk to the bottom.
Gandara is ranked 9 out of 27, and those bonuses are handy both for beginners, and max level players. Going to a better ranked world might result in server login queues.
Max bonuses:
Artisan: 20% increased chance of crafting critical success.
Defender: 10% increased defense against monsters.
Energetic: 10% endurance regeneration bonus.
Gatherer: 20% chance of additional gathering node uses
Medic: 10% increased healing effectiveness
Robust: 10% increased maximum health
Scavenger: 10% bonus coin per kill.
Wisdom: 10% bonus experience per kill.
Don't ignore those bonuses, 10, or 20 % might look negligible but you'll need them in the future.
Gonna give this a go downloading now

Wow so nice to see Guild Wars has got its own thread now!
Gorion I'm not sure what to say about the server selection, I don't want anyone spending money to server hop, because I wouldn't want to do it either
Otherwise great to have all of you Dead Men in the guild, cant wait to see you all in game :-D
It had a section since 2012 mate, but it was in the graveyard.
Re server selection, being on the wrong server will hurt you in the long and short run. Most of the players are relatively new, so restarting wouldn't be that much of an issue. Those combat oriented benefits are critical once you start doing fractals past level 10, or raids.
Transferring assets should also be possible since one can guest on a different server.
If you want to wait till the higher levels, it might not cost any real life cash, as you can buy gems with gold.
Anyhow, throw an invite to LydonB.6293 , I can help around once I'm reacquainted with all the changes they made.
Oh go on then ...
OldBloke.8109
It's free so why not. Put me on the list please Snooks.6914.
If nothing else it's much like Star Wars in that you can pick a race, play through the story line and explore the world almost as a single player game.
It would be nice to meet up with dMw'ers and get some group stuff done but it's still a blast to play even if you're the only one on line.
SO which server *are* we on. Is it the same one I wonder. Asura Necromancer on Underworld. Tealeaf.8047
I'm on underworld like a good number of us. Not sure how many are on other servers though. Need to sort a meetup at some point.
Quote from: TeaLeaf;403954SO which server *are* we on. Is it the same one I wonder. Asura Necromancer on Underworld. Tealeaf.8047
New GW2 players are on Underworld, people from the original dMw guild are on Gandara, which are mostly inactive.
You can still join the new guild whichever server you join. The limitation is in WvWvW which is inexistent on Underworld. Doing well in WvWvW provide considerable bonuses.
You should already have an account on Gandara TL, from that guest pass I gave you at launch.
Also transferring servers is free if you don't have any characters. So if anyone is still low levelled, store your stuff in the bank, delete that character and move to Gandara, were the WvWvW bonuses will result in faster levelling, better crafting, and stats which will make end game content more manageable. You can still join the new guild if building a new one is preferred, and you can still play with everyone else.
So am I on the wrong server?
Should we all be on Gandara?
Who's calling the shots?
Who won the FA Cup in 1961?
Quote from: OldBloke;403958So am I on the wrong server?

Who's calling the shots?
1) Depends what you want to do. But if you don't want to gimp yourself, you are on the wrong server.
2) Yes, since dMw has been on Gandara since 2012. Everyone who played when the game went live has accounts there.
3) Officially? No one I guess. I was GL before the game went into "No longer floats the boat". Sith created a new guild and asked people to join him on Underworld after the core game went free.
I talked to Sith about the issue that now the community is divided (Some minor grouping still possible, depending on map instances), however he doesn't want to relocate to where dMw was at when GW2 was a supported game (The new guild can be kept). This situation would have easily been avoided by asking around, or looking in the games of old section, but that was not done. And here we are now.
Quote from: Gorion;4039591) Depends what you want to do. But if you don't want to gimp yourself, you are on the wrong server.
Sorry. What does this mean? I read that it hurts us in WvWvW but I don't know what that means.
Quote from: OldBloke;403960Sorry. What does this mean? I read that it hurts us in WvWvW but I don't know what that means.
A server doing well in WvWvW earns points that fill out meters. Once a meter is filled, everyone on that server gains a bonus to one of the below, up to their max. In addition to those bonuses, when a server wins a WvWvW tournament, everyone on that server gains currency, and a myriad of long lasting buffs, skins, pets, and other items. Doing well in WvWvW means you're also getting more WvWvW rewards, gaining XP and other stuff.
Max bonuses:
Artisan: 20% increased chance of crafting critical success. (Extra crafting experience (skill level) when crafting, and resource refund)
Defender: 10% increased defense against monsters. (Less damage taken)
Energetic: 10% endurance regeneration bonus. (Used to doge attacks)
Gatherer: 20% chance of additional gathering node uses. (More gathered resources)
Medic: 10% increased healing effectiveness. (More HP healed per healing skill used)
Robust: 10% increased maximum health. (More max HP)
Scavenger: 10% bonus coin per kill. (Extra currency)
Wisdom: 10% bonus experience per kill. (Extra XP)
So, you're levelling yourself and your skills faster, gaining more currency, and killing/surviving more in combat. In addition to the tournament rewards, which contain stuff you normally have to buy with gems (premium currency).
Underworld is at the 26th out of 27 positions on the ranking list. Gandara is ranked 9th.
Thanks for the clarification.
What I have gleaned suggests that if you delete your characters you can then restart and pick a different server. As mine is only level 5 I am quite happy to delete it and start again.
What we need is a responsible adult who can make a decision!!!
Seems like we really should be considering a move. Is anyone here against a server move to Gandara?
Who's already active and on Gandara?
well i think we should stay on underworld, as we have a fair few of us on here now.
I'd like to hear the counter-argument to moving. If, for example, we're just going to play casually when we've got an odd hour or so to do so then does it *really* matter where we are based?
Quote from: Jamoe;403969Who's already active and on Gandara?
From the old crew, just me at the moment. There should be another level 80 coming back early next week, and possibly others since the expansion is re-igniting interest.
As for inactive and on Gandara, every dMw er who purchased the game at launch. Which ever server you are, you can still do some playing with someone from another server.
The bonuses and other benefits aren't a joke, so it's a no brainier.
For levelling up, do your initial quests and work on your personal quests. If you're stuck, just shout out and someone should help. At any level you can go into WvWvW and join a zerg wich will net you XP. Crafting and a number of tasks will also give you XP. Picking up something from the floor, and taking it some place can level you up (Hearts). Plus, jumping puzzles.
Even if you have an odd hour or so, there is no counter argument, as those bonuses means that you will go farther in that available hour.
If we are voting my vote would be to stay on underworld as i have already paid 500gems to move from my American server SoR :)
Well, you can stay on underworld and play via cross server. Not fair to limit others however, as you can still earn those gems in game in due time.
Assuming that I will never actually do any WvWvW or PvP of any kind and have no interest in levelling up fast or getting XP boosts, buckets of gold or sexy looking armour, I'd rather go slow and see all the content GW2has to offer, is it still sensible to move away from Underworld? Am I just just missing some trinkets and novelty pets if I start where I am.
The WvWvW bonuses apply to everything on a server and not just pvp content.
Also you will never be overpowered in the game as the game will adjust your level when doing lower level content.
It's not just leveling that is affected, your character survivability and income are also affected. Take note that you won't be having HP in the hundreds of thousands like WoW. My warrior has 20k something with Exotic lvl 80 gear.
When taking into consideration the whole picture, and the small amount of time it will take new players to recoup their levels. It is a sendible decision. Coming from someone who has participated in end game content.
Omg lol underworld = bottom from last place on the WvWvW leaderboards....
Gandara on the other hand is 8th.. i have no issue moving again to Gandara if people are restarting there..

My understanding (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is that even if that's all you want to do you would still be better off on Gandara.

What you said is correct.
so are we moving then? someone needs to make a decision so we can all have fun......together :)
Gandara seems to be the place to go if you've not yet invested too much time in a character yet. Although clearly everyone is free to play anywhere they like.
i've got 2 accounts now 1 on underworld and 1 on gandrea so i'm sorted either way.
OK, guys. Apologies for not jumping on this sooner but the rapid resurrection of this old game and the positive response within the community to get on board with it has kind of taken us all by surprise (personally, I blame Angry Joe).
The dMw Council have now looked at this and decided that we need to make a call one way or the other. So, the official dMw server will be Gandara as that's the server that is historically ours and where most of the hard graft was put in by our members up to now.
No one is being told to move servers.
However, for players just starting out (like me) then it makes sense to move across now before too much levelling is under the belt. I believe that simply deleting your current character will allow you to start again. Please wait for confirmation - I'm about to try this myself shortly.
We will further debate the possibility of moving GW2 to a fully supported game again - more information on that soon.
Store your stuff in the bank before going through character deletion as the bank follows the account.
Quote from: OldBloke;404020... I believe that simply deleting your current character will allow you to start again. Please wait for confirmation - I'm about to try this myself shortly.
I've deleted my lowly character but I do not appear have the option to move servers :g:
That might be the limitation of 1 weekly transfer.
When was your account created?
Okey Dokey. Thanks to Gorion for explaining the procedure but:
QuoteThe transfer fee is waived for accounts without any active characters. This allows players just starting out to change to another world that is not full. You also can transfer without cost if you delete all your existing characters. The next time you log on without any characters, you will be prompted to choose a new home world. [1] (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World#cite_note-1) Please be aware of the following:
- Transfers to any game world â€" whether free or paid for with gems â€" are allowed only if the population of the world is at less than capacity.
- Transfers to any game world â€" whether free or paid for with gems â€" are allowed only once per seven days.
- If you decide to delete the characters on your account, Customer Support cannot restore them, in whole or in part.
- Items left on the characters will be deleted and cannot be restored. Move items to your personal account bank to preserve them.
For me the process runs as follows.
1. Delete all your characters
2. While still logged in select 'World Selection' in the bottom left corner of the screen.
3. Find Gandara and select it as your new choice.
4. Check (ignore) the warnings and proceed.
5. You will be logged out.
6. Click 'OK'
7. Log in and you will see the character selection screen, create a character, you are now on Gandara.
There is a warning that the process could to some time, for me it was instantaneous. High Population Servers are not like ones in WOW, I checked on-line and the chances or queues etc are zero.
Changing worlds will not delete anything in your bank, you will still be in the Guild and you're friends list will be intact. Unlike WOW and other MMO's most of your activity will stay with the account i.e. guild membership, friends list, karma points etc. All you really loose is your character, their bags and gold.
Currency is account bound, so you shouldn't be losing that.
If you are, just mail it to me and I'll mail it back to your new toon. AFAIK you can also put your extra bags in the bank.

So, I've just deleted my character & it's telling me that I can only switch servers if I upgrade to the full game, did I just kill myself for no reason then? awesome.
I've no idea. I bought the expansion so have a sort of paid account. If you're on a free account just create a new free account and log in with that. It's probably no more involved than making a transfer. You might loose a few resources but unless you have levelled up a long way I don't think they are that important and can easily be required by simply levelling up your character.
Only if you bought the original GW2 game or the recent Heart of Thorns expansion or had loads of Gold/Karma would you want to do a world transfer rather than just fire up a new account. And as always you could stay on Underworld only you'd apparently miss out on the goodies from Gandara and any grouping up we might do?
Oh and a quick update, we're keeping the new Guild as the official one, seeing as most people have joined that one now. The old original dMw guild on Gandara will not be used. Seems that Guilds are not 'World/realm/server' dependent. You can be on any server and still be in the guild as it's your account that is in a guild not a specific character. So whether you are on Gundara or Underworld you can be in the official dMw Guild.
I can help around boosting ppl up, so getting back were you where won't be an issue.
ok then i'll just use the underworld server.
Quote from: Sneakytiger;404039ok then i'll just use the underworld server.
To make it more clear: The official server is Gandara, the official guild is the new one.
So just use Gandara in conjunction with the new guild. The new guild was opted as the proper name was available when it was created, back in the day it was taken. Meaning, use your Gandara account and represent the guild called Dead Men Walking (new one).

Quote from: RizZy;404032So, I've just deleted my character & it's telling me that I can only switch servers if I upgrade to the full game, did I just kill myself for no reason then? awesome.
I got the same :(
Seems free accounts don't transfer. As nothing has been purchased and no characters are being moved there's effectively nothing to transfer. I've purchased Heart of Thorns which is tied to my account and so I need to transfer to Gundara rather than start again, otherwise I'll obviously loose my purchase. I imagine the game developers assume people will just roll a new account if they are playing for free.
So
Paid account = transfer
Free account = start a new account

I'll transfer my little toon across to Gandara.
Great. Tonight I'll be on helping people out.
Was planning to do that yesterday but fixing my build and creating new gear to go with the new build/skills took more time than anticipated.
Should be on around 9pm UK.
I wiped my toons on Underworld and moved over to Gandara. Got my Warrior back up to LvL29 in no time.
I've only got to lvl 10 so will move to Gandara next time I'm on.

Anywhere in particular to get this game from? Just on steam or is there someplace better?

Edit: Thanks for the invite Gorion
As one of those sad acts that loves to go exploring every little nook and cranny of an MMO's world I love the fact that you can go and explore all the regions that belong to the other four races and complete all their quests. As soon as you enter a newbie area you're level gets reduced down to make the mobs there worthy of battle. This is why as a Lv 21 player I was recently killed by a level seven frog. Makes the entire Guild Wars world fun to explore. Also makes being a chef a lot less of a grind as well.
Regarding crafting professions, if someone wants to increase their active professions from 2 to 4, one can purchase 2x
Additional crafting license (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Additional_Crafting_License) at 800 gems a pop.
If you rather have 2, or not pay the gem cost, you can switch professions from an active to inactive state and level up whichever you choose. However to reactivate an inactive profession you have to pay in game currency depending on the level of the inactive to active profession.
As per
wiki (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting):
QuoteTo learn a craft, speak to the relevant master craftsman (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Master_craftsman); they also answer basic questions and sell supplies for their craft. A character can only have two disciplines active at a time, or up to four with the purchase of Additional Crafting Licenses (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Additional_Crafting_License). They can pay a master craftsman to switch, at cost of 10 (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/e/eb/Copper_coin.png) (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Coin) per level already attained in the target discipline. Taking on a new discipline is always free, while switching back to a maxed discipline (at level 500) costs 50 (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/3/3c/Silver_coin.png) (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Coin).
or just do what i do and have 2 crafts per toon, my engi is huntsman and jeweler, my mesmer is a tailor and artificer, etc...

This is one of the few MMO's where 100% exploration is truely wonderful as they have put some stunning scenery into the game.
It's also needed to craft legendary stuff, as 100% explored gives 2 gifts of exploration.

Hahahaha.
When I first played, what, 3 years ago now? The price of a precursor needed for Legendary was 100g. Today it is 1000g. This is Spark of Rage - I main thief. So really, I need two of them suckers!
I've not checked, too much, but earning that much gold can only be done by playing the trading post very well or spending real money on gems and converting to gold.
Yep, blame all the damned gold farmers there used to be running around.
They are probably still there too. You need around 4k gold to buy a leg now.
I'm back, and should be playing some tomorrow.
In the meantime, the GW2 news section (https://www.guildwars2.com/en-gb/news/) has some fine information on the changes coming soon with HoT which is releasing on the 23rd. Economy, drops, and even alternate paths to acquiring precursors and legendaries instead of paying stupid sums of gold.
The 23rd is also the start date of the Mad King's event - Halloween.
I never managed to complete the Mad Kings clock tower last year, that jumping puzzle was a nightmare.. migth have to give it a go again this time.
Yep, it's very hard especially with all the people jumping around.
Timing is the key, and a certain amount of luck when jumping in some spots.
There was a massive update two days ago. The game has improved quite a bit in multiple facets.
In addition, all HoT current and future were given a free shared slot, with a max level boost item which can be tested on multiple characters before applying the permanent level up boost.
Patch notes (https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-19-2016) - A very long read.
