how much? i'd take a look at overclockers.co.uk as well if you are looking for a re-built one. if not just build one yourself and use something like http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/ to pick your parts.

Looks like despite lack of knowledge you've put together a solid system there Smite, good job! :thumbsup:

If you are only ever doing 1080 resolutions then the 970 does well and uses less power.  Increase the resolution to higher than 1080p though and the 390 seems to win everywhere.   So for a system designed to last 5-6 years it would seem to favour the 390 quite heavily as you are more than likely to want to use higher than 1080 resolutions.

I currently have 2 x nVidia cards in my system, but if I were buying today with your goals I'd be buying the 8GB R9 390.  Your motherboard supports Crossfire and SLI, so you could swing either way in the future or double up in the shorter term when needs demand.

Hi Gunda, it all came to around £1,200. Working out a similar system on OC sent the pricey s much higher. I can't be arsed to build my own, I want someone else to do the hard work and 3 years warranty seems quite good.

Hi TL, I have done a bit of research but all the numbers mean little to me these days. SSD completely threw me for a while, how things have changed.
I have the same opinion on the cards, while I do need to buy a new monitor it was only going to be a 1080 as I'm not looking to spend over £200.

looks good, i'd make your 2nd HD bigger though, 1TB runs out fast when games are getting to 40Gb each kinda level.

Quite happy with this set-up.
I will probably wait for a few weeks before ordering, contemplating popping to the LAN on the Saturday to see what other people are using (as well as catch-up :P)

The next advice I need is a monitor... I can't spend anymore than £200.
The only manufacturers I recognise are Dell, Asus and Samsung. Who else make decent monitors.
What technology should I be looking at? IPS, curved, 1ms, 5ms etc...

To be frank, you won't be able to afford curved or IPS in that price range.

A good TN panel of around 24" should be doable however.  You might need to find a discounted one however.

Dell U2412M is just under your budget. 1920x1200 so 16:10 which is a much more useful all-round ratio than 16:9.

+1 for this one.  I got this one for my Dexterous and he has been very pleased with it (he uses for gaming and homework, more the former than latter!).

I'm confused. What is the picture difference between the U2412M (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-052-DE&tool=3) and the U2414H (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-072-DE&groupid=17&catid=510) ??
The 2412 has a brighter screen /m² and 16:10 ratio but that seems to be it.
The 2414 is cheaper, uses half the power, HDMI ports and thinner bezel.

Does the 16:10 1920 x 1200 make that much difference??

Generally, yes it does as 16:10 are not that common, hence they charge more for them.

From my perspective there is not a lot of difference.    Both will connect to the planned graphics card, both same panel, the key differences are slightly different connection options and the ratio.

For my part, I really appreciate the 16:10 ratio which I use at home.   I have a 1920x1080 at work and it always seems too shallow to me.   If you do any work with documents then you'll notice the difference a lot - you also notice it in sims (eg Flight Sim) and gaming generally I find.    Overall I just prefer 16:10 to the approx 18:10 ratio used by 1920x1080 panels.

Unless you are planning some wierd multiple monitor daisy chain set up, DP or HDMI is a non issue.

It appears that my current Monitor, which I purchased in 2008, is a 16:10 Dell 2408WFP (http://www.engadget.com/products/dell/ultrasharp/2408wfp/specs/). So I can't really change down to a 16:9.
Didn't realise how good it was, remember it was twice as much as I am currently planning to spend.

The question is, will I notice much difference between this monitor and my current based on the spec?
My current monitor is LCD and the new one will be LED. That's about it (as far as I can see).

The colours will be different when comparing a 2008 monitor and a relatively modern one.

Did the change a couple of years ago myself, and the colours when both were next to each other were night and day.

Personally i would not upgrade from a 2408WFP to a 2415, not going to see a great improvement, better off saving up for a 27" 1440p monitor?

Dell U2515 Ordered last night to be delivered tomorrow.

Need to decide on my Gaming PC spec and order tonight.
PC Specialist spec has gone up by £50 since Tuesday, for some reason, now £1,258.
It is still cheaper than a similar but lesser spec from Overclockers (4790 instead of 6700, GTX970 instead of R9 390, slower non branded memory) at £1,300.
Mesh, same spec is £1,380.

Post us a link or more info to the pc that you are looking at?

PCS don't have the i7-6700k in until the end of October. Not sure if I should wait or go elsewhere. Again spec'ing the same build is close £100+.

I could order it with the i7-6700 at 3.4Ghz rather than the i7-6700K at 4.0Ghz, Saving £70.
Not sure how much I would notice the difference. I wouldn't be overclocking either. :g:

Have you considered dropping down to an i5?

Unless you're really hammering the CPU, I doubt you would see a massive difference in performance and it'll save you a few pennies :)

Drop down to the i5 6600k swap the 240gb Kingston hyper thing for an m.2 Samsung sm951 256gb drive. I'd also get a 2 or 3 tb drive instead of a 1tb so little price difference.

Not had chance to look at the spec again, the weekend is dedicated to decorating :ranting2:.

The new monitor has turned up but I can't get the bloody thing to work on my current PC. Works fine on the X-Box.

Bought a DVI to HDMI adapter but get the message:

"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor display. Please change your input timing to 2560x1440, 60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications."

Updated the catalyst drivers, can't work out how to install the monitor drivers unless the monitor is connected. With the monitor connected I get the above message.
Tried restarting both pc and monitor. Confirmed that the Gphx card can achieve the resolution, which it does (HD 3870 x2).

The problem is not unique there are plenty of people who have had the same message, with Dell monitors but no real fix, that I have found.
Possible link to the refresh rate not showing 60Hz when setting, always reverts to 59Hz. Win 7 only.

It's not a massive problem as it will be for the new PC on Win10 (hopefully). But I thought it might be worth asking the techy gods on here if they have ever come across this problem.

Changes made as suggested and order placed.
All Skylake processors are out of stock so I'm not expecting the PC until towards the end of November. I can live with that.

The motherboard you are ordering has a "M.2 Socket 3 PCIe x4 mode (Gen 3.0)" so i would swap the SATA samsung 250Gb evo drive for a m.2 Samsung sm951 256gb drive.

Its a little more expensive (£119 vs £68), but worth it imo as its over double the speed.

making sure it is the MZVP model number as that is the NVMe part rather than AHCI

EDIT: sorry ignore me i just noticed you had ordered already.. you can always add one of these in the future if you want a dedicated SSD for games etc.

Hi Gunda, Thank you for replying.

I would have chosen that drive if it was an option from PC Specialist. The only options for Samsung were the 850 evo.

Very impressed with it. The speed of starting to programs opening are superb and the graphics are so smooth.

The only minor problem i have come across is the Nostromo Game pad and Mouse lights stay on when the PC is shutdown.
This is more than likely due to power still supplied to the USB ports. Something i can live with.

Sounds like a BIOS setting might resolve the USB thing.

Nostromo status lot on my PC as well, as does the mouse.

You should be able to click on the little image icon in the edit controls when you post and upload images directly to the forum.

Haha thanks but I still play my console how else would I play halo 5 lol but will try to join tonight it depends on how long your all on for and what time work wants me in the morning, I haven't played many games of counter strike but willing to give it ago lol
