Yeah, my limited understanding is that Russia is in support of the existing Syrian government, and is opposed to ISIS, but the US is opposed to both the Syrian Government and ISIS.

So you have the situation where Russia is bombing both ISIS and Syrian Rebels, and the US is bombing ISIS and Syrian Loyalist forces...
