Title: Is it worth buying?
Post by: smite on October 29, 2015, 07:16:38 PM
With my new PC being delivered on Saturday I am tempted to buy a couple of games before SW: Battlefront is released.

Battlefield 4 - Limited Edition is currently on Amazon for £10.99, is it worth it?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Battlefield-4-PC-DVD-Limited/dp/B00C0W6N84/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1446145819&sr=8-2&keywords=battlefield+4+pc

A couple of people commented at the LAN that EA killed the game so thought I would get an overall opinion.

I am also tempted to try Titanfall for £8.25

I can only say from my option so that's what I can tell you.

Titanfall is a game I would not recommend it was good for a few hours but there is a large lack of content the campaign for a start was a let down very short and pointless really. It just swaps between team death match and hold the obj missions. I would pass on this is if I was you

Battlefield I have only played on the Xbox one and is a cry interesting game haha best way to discribe it I think on the PC it's supost to be a lot better and now with the community build they have apprenty really changed and made the game better. It's had a lot of my hours playing it with friend but I find it's always get annoying after a while haha.

What do you normally play ?

i've spent many hours playing BF4, but i always end up back on CS:GO.

Not sure about Titenfall .....Its a good price for bf4 (well the first couple of bits) The best modes /maps for me were in the later dlc  .... extra cash

Unless your a diehard I don't think you will get much out of it

I would recommend Farcry 3... Its about £15 one of the few games that i played through more than once

I'm just coming back to gaming from a 5 year'ish break.
From 2004 to 2010 it was World of Warcraft, before that it was anything dMw were playing. CS, LFS, Left 4 dead, Unreal Tournament, BF Vietnam, BF2 etc...

The intention is to re-install CS:Go and try to get back up to speed, SW: Battlefront and a couple of other cheap games.

Well if you looking for what most people on here are playing them cs:go is a great start next, I would say firefall and guild wars 2 since there both free games. If you want a shooter with a lot of content and brilliant gameplay and teamwork with us then arma 3 is a great shout, a bunch play it on Sunday's and its very fun.

That looks quite good, but you know what I'm like, I get bored of the linear games. I like to drop in and out of games quickly.
WoW will not be going back on either. It took too much of my time and caused too many arguments.

I will try and find some more cheap games. Don't mind if they are crap then :P

Ark is always a good call as well, most a very nice game and you can sink a few good hours into that game if that's what your looking for. But I would say there no point with Titanfall there are a few hours of good gameplay in it and then it gets boring.

Here's a few FPS games from the last couple of years you might want to check out:

Far Cry 3 & 4
Borderlands 2
Wolfenstein: The New Order (no, really)
Bioshock Infinite
Dishonored
Dying Light

BF4 was a big disappointment on many levels, I would stay well clear of anything released by DICE/EA these days.

Try Alien Isolation and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Both excellent games and can be gotten really cheaply.

Smite, If you can get all of the DLC for BF4 for that price then it's worth it. I still enjoy battlefield 4. The graphics are ace and they keep improving the gameplay. For a tenner it's worth it. Even if just for the SP.

Gawd, how could I leave out Alien Isolation? Superb game, it gave Whitey PTSD and a serious heart condition.

Assassins Creed Black Flag is decent and cheap. It's got a reasonable single player element but mainly it's about sailing you pirate brig all over the Caribbean, looking for treasure islands, doing pirate stuff, hunting whales, fighting the Spanish and generally shivering your timbers. Beautiful graphics as well. Maybe check out a You Tube review or two.

Alien Isolation? Speak to Whitey about that one,  :-) requires nerves if steel, but it's still one of the most immersive games ever made.

I got to rank 62, so I'd say I've given it a fair crack. I didn't think it was very good, no need to be a jerk about it.

LOL, I think I will avoid BF4 just to avoid creating arguments :P

Assassins Creed, Farcry 4, Bioshock Infinite and Witcher 3 all look very good.

If I didn't have a glass topped desk I would be tempted to get the steering wheel out and try a driving game.

Cheers Gents.

CS Go now installed and runs sweet.
Left for Dead 2, same.
Team Fortress 2 looked good at the LAN. That will be the next download.
Still looking at what Steam is offering cheap, I want something that will test the Gphx card.
I will let you know what I end up with.

This PC is very quick, windows 10 is taking some getting used to.

Having to reign in the spending. Plus the SSD is nearly full :(
How much differently do the games play from a HDD? is it noticeable?

They will load (much) faster, but generally the performance isn't noticeably better.

Some games do benefit, Arma 3 for example, but they are the exception.

Don't buy it, Battlefield 5 will be out in 'holiday 2016', so save your money and wait for the upgrade, or the pre-order, or the pre-order for beta-testing, or the pre-order-Platinum package for the early Alpha testing, none of which will come with additional premium DLC which is scheduled to be released only 3 months after the game's release and will cost as much as the original game!

I kid you not.   BF5.   Q4 2016.   :roflmao:

Oh and BF5 is not really BF5, it's more like BF37.  But who's counting?   Only EA's accountants!

Buy it. It's a bargain.
I enjoy playing bf4 especially if you can play it with a few on teamspeak.
Be sure to get premium too though.
And if you are not sure. It's also possible to try it out for free for 48 hrs (it's called origin game time).

Just purchased the premium edition for £16 through Origin.
This is a bargain in my opinion with the expansion packs included: China Rising, Second Assault, Naval Strike, Dragons Teeth & Final Stand. As well as a few extras.

£16 is a bargain true Smite, as long as you wait a couple of years after release before buying it!

Owh yes I did see the humour in your post :narnar:

I read a lot of negative responses regarding bf4, and I wanted to give a positive response.
Because imo it's a good game (and yes it has it's flaws, but which game doesn't have that).

And I don't like how EA brings the game to the market. But yes I do really like the game and therefore buy it regardless even bf5 or bf37 ;).
Seeing at how many hours I spend on bf4, this game was a bargain for me to be honest even with the full price.

The game is very enjoyable if you play it with friends on ts3. Too bad dMw doesn't support it anymore.

BF4 turned into a solid game after a year of extra development work went into it, which suggests it was rushed to market. EA's business practices are getting in the way of producing good products - I for one don't fancy giving them any more money to encourage those practices.

The reason we stopped was simply that not enough people were playing it.   It was a forced rental (thanks for the choice EA) server, so when we had nobody on it for 5-6 nights of the week and few others on the 1-2 nights per week it was used, it simply did not make sense to continue to pay for it.   Each DLC fragmented the community and we ended up below critical mass.

I played the game too, ignoring the bugs, I enjoyed it too.  My beef is entirely with their approach to the community (no dedicated server) and their constant rip-off mentality (bringing the game to market before bugs fixed and then the constant additional charge DLC).    If they issued a DS then the game owuld have lasted much logner as we could have built around it, which perversely would probably earn them more money than the current approach as more people would buy the game!

So, my post was heavily tongue in cheek!

I can only but agree TeaLeaf. And I know and understand the reason why we don't have a server anymore.
We only played on friday, and even then it was difficult to get the server full.
