Title: Infinity: Battlescape

Another space flight sim, but has a quote from Chris Roberts on there.

Quote from: Chris Robertsa working prototype that looks, in a word, spectacular!

It's down to it's last 60 hours and looks like it will meet it's $300k goal as it's only $6k away and climbing fast.

I put $20 in there a few weeks ago and if being honest didn't thing they would make it but they crossed the line yesterday.

The Closed Beta is $55 and probably a little much given we should be playing SC at that time. Looks nice though.

The proof of concept looks very good. Scott Manley reviewed it and the video footage looked excellent.

I may have to pledge for this one.

This one has been floating about as vapourware for about 10 years. It's on it's off, it's happening, it's not. Even Diablo 3 can't touch this for 'will it ever happen?'. I was going to be a huge persistent MMO space sim, basically Star Citizen. Seems I-Novae have finally given up on that idea and gone for Unreal Tournament in space ships. September 2017 is a long way off and with their track record (they decided on a Kickstarter two years ago!) combined with the  fact that currently the whole development team are unpaid volunteers and a Kickstarter pledge does seem a bit of a punt.

The Alpha Weekend for the game is this weekend if you pledged for that.

It's moving along pretty nicely now but the proof will be in the alpha.

I like this focus on the net code:

Along with the patch Flavien has made significant progress on optimizing our networking code for bandwidth. It’s now at a point where we feel confident that a player with an average home broadband connection should have enough bandwidth to host a 150-200 player server. Whether or not their computer is powerful enough to handle that many players is of course another matter entirely.

Refreshing to see the performance and networking on the forefront of a development project.

Lol, my optimism was getting a bit carried away. Also my capacity to easily exceed a merge $55 pledge.

Don't recall this one, but it doesn't half annoy me when they upload videos and stick a beautiful image of space battle to hook you than fail to show anything related to that scene in the video.

Well this weekend there should be more content since they have no NDA on video or streaming.

To be fair they've not released much for months in terms of marketing material.

They're pretty good on the news updates every week or so and releasing the tech videos and models they have been working on. I bought into this Kickstarter but not at Alpha level.

If you want to see their progress, then their kickstarter posts (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/309114309/infinity-battlescape/updates) are a good source.

I've thrown far too much money at one particular Space MMO already. But when this fully launches, hopefully in September I can see myself buying it retail.

Apparently we can host our own servers which could be fun.

Couple of screen shots from the Pre-Alpha. No textures yet on anything but it's quite easy to fly around, warp, land on a planet.

Not many people online so haven't actually had a fight yet.

This is now on Early Access on Steam and is gathering decent momentum and player numbers. It's a team moba style game with capture locations and various tasks to perform to enhance your chances of overwhelming the other team.

Then add space ships and 100 people. They have a bit of good thing going instance wise and their netcode is pretty amazing. I know how bad it was to begin with but that's what happened since we kickstarted this.

I played the last few weekends and there are dozens of players in Epic battles. It's not just a login and die situation as sensible players can pick their battles carefully. Oh and mouse and keyboard are perfectly fine for this game, not fancy hardware needed.

It is a little pricey. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1079620/Infinity_Battlescape/?snr=1_7_15__13

BotherTobious and Albert both own it so far.

They did plan for more but as Smilo points out they bit off more than they could chew so will settle for massive battles and see how things go.
