Okay so a simple thread really, I am loving this game I haven't played much of it due to the state its in not saying it's a bad state don't get me wrong but want to play it when it's more complete, anyway back to the thread as I love this game I want to have a nice set of ships as a lot of people would want if they don't mind saving a bit of money and spending it. Also one thing I want to talk a bit about is players play styles, I know that the council are looking into the members and looking for people to do certain roles but I ain't sure how I want to play this game really it's so big it's hard to be just one thing so why not see what everyone else wants play like. So please if you want I would love to hear how you want to play it?
So the ships I now have a total of 6 ships but it seems most of them are the same and this isn't a bad thing but maybe I need to expend, when I started to get ships I wanted single seats because I didn't want anyone else's lives resting on me but now it seems I am changing my ways as I play more with DMW, so maybe I should look at more ships with team base potential, are there any recommendations ?
Most of mine are combat ships so am looking at upgrading on to the reclaimer (think its called ) with this I can run more security for those transport ships with have but that means I need a crew to run these ships and I think that's the problem with everyone doing there own thing and useing there own ships, people might not want to work in others whips but I might be wrong so please let me know, thanks for reading this :D
Rogue
Woah! Slow down mate and take a breath! :). Punctuation and paragraphs would go a long way to reducing the wall of text.
Anyway, on to your question(s):
Firstly, although the board are setting up a structure, we are not going to be asking people to pick a role and stick to it. Currently, we are asking people to volunteer to head up the various disciplines that will be available in game, and be the person that members go to to organise things and resolve disputes, etc. We expect that most people will want to try their hand at most things, and that over time, they will tend to gravitate towards a role or roles that they are comfortable with (and usually good at as a result). So don't be too concerned with needing to find your niche now. Just have fun, explore, learn and eventually you'll find something that you really want to do.
Regarding ships, as an org, we have most of the multi-crew ships covered, so again, I would recommend that you only get what you're interested in most, rather than what you think we may need as an org. Take a look at the Fleet Tool and you'll see how many we have of each ship right now. If you want to base your decision on this, feel free, but it's probably worth repeating that we have pretty much everything covered right now.
First off I am sorry for punctuation I was rushing to get it out because was trying to watch a film so I am sorry for that. Writing ain't my best point as you all can see and would know.
I understand that the council are looking but all I meant was how are people looking at playing the game, I expect people to try everything due to the game being this big you are going to want to do everything. So for me when I looked at this game and brought it the main things I wanted to do was bounty hunt and run with you guys as a security guard of sorts, protecting the weaker more valuable ships like the transport ships. I still want to do this because this game was meant to be played with loads of people. I would love to work in other peoples ships tho and go mining and scavenging aswell.
I ain't worried about finding my role yet but I was just curious with how people thought they were going to play it, like some might be traders who will be looking for the best trading ships and the best things to trade. Where as other might be about the mining life or savaging in a group, some people fly combat ship and take out a few people then scavenge the wreckage for money. I know we aren't a group for role play but on games like this there is always a tiny bit of it I'm the game :) and wanted to know what everyone wanted to play like or be.
As for ships, I have already been told to not get ships based on the DMW group due to us having a. Full range of different ships I wanted to know what people would recommend for certain roles really, I have a ship for exploring but needs a crew I think, then I have a bunch of single person combat based ships. I don't really want a Transport ship but am considering the freelancer, I like the look of this due to the double ability of being a armed transporter sort of ship and am considering upgrading one of my ships to get this one.
My fleet tool is always updated so people can see my ships, and lie, I said most of them are combat ships. One of my questions is which of my ships should I look at upgrading , I am thinking of getting a Freelancer and maybe a reclaimer ?
I think I'm taking the same approach as you RT. Try a few things and see where it leads.
As for ships, I figured I need something that will make me some cash to help buy the other ships in game. So I went for a freelancer to do transport type stuff. Originally I had a 315p but I don't think the hold will be profitable enough for the amount if time I have to play :)
I think most people will have a variety of play styles and morph from one to another. I'll tend to be less into combat, so my ships have tended to be exploration or resources or transport, but when the call comes then I'll bring something with more punch if more fire power is needed. It will be great fun doing this as part of PACT too if they need or want the help. Likewise there will always be a need for escorts and bounty hunting. Most of the time though I expect I'll find myself doing the ERT thing and trying to buddy up with whoever is online at the time.
In terms of ships though, it really is down to you. Remember all the ships will be available in-game, so only spend money to back the game, the choice then is how you choose to back the development of the game.
For a fighter type ship, you could always be on the lookout for an F7C-M Super Hornet, they are looking badass. For slightly longer range fighter work take a look at the Vanguard.
You could CCU some of your fighters to something with a slightly different role though, like the F7C Tracker for example, still involved in the fighting, but designed to deliver support through field intelligence on what other ships are doing, where they are and where they are going. It really does depend on what you think you will enjoy doing. For example, if you're a fighter type of guy and like the adrenalin, would something like racing appeal to you? It is planned as a major role within the PU, so winning that Cup could be one of your goals.
I think many members will be loaning their ships out though to other members. Any more than one ship and something gets left in the hangar, so I know several of us will have some or all of our personal fleet available for DMW org use, so even if you don't have a particular type of ship you'll still get to fly them or crew them on coop missions.
Yeah, as TeaLeaf says, I think most of us are going to do the same as you RT. As you say, the game is going to be deep as well as wide, and there's going to be so much that you can do, it's a little overwhelming to make a choice right now.
The Freelancer is probably a very good choice of ship, and a true all rounder. I think it's going to be one of the few multi crew ships that can be flown solo effectively. I've tried the Constellation and there is no way that it can be flown solo effectively - it needs a crew to stand a chance at defending itself! But I think the Freelancer will be alright.
If I do fly solo, I'll probable take on some NPCs and if I need additional help, dMw members can always agent smith across and help out. And like TL, I'm happy to loan out my ships once we get the systems to support that.
i am really looking forward to this game once its done and cant wait to play with you lot, i think if done right this could be one of the best games we will se for a long time and the teamwork aspects in it could be incredible.
i am in the same boat as you lot on the lending ships out or taking on crew, if i got spare ships then go ahead and use them just bring them back as you find them ;) but am more then happy to team with people if they need more crew members or wan to be part of one of my ship's crew. i guess i will have to wait for AI to come out to get the full use out of the Constellation then. and will look more into getting the freelancer just got to pick what ship to get rid of now and upgrade it, any suggestions ?
i haven't thought to much on racing but will give it ago maybe some day my main goal really is to help out that's all i want to do, if i can help someone else out then i am more then happy. that might be escorting them, being in there crew i dont mind really in a game like this i think you need to work together to get far in the universe
Hey RT,
You stated the Reclaimer in your opening thread but I think you mean the Retailiator, that's the combat ship (Or the Redeemer - drop ship) The Reclaimer is the salvage ship. The tail is a excellent escort ship and if NPCs become decent gunners then I think it's a very good choice.
I've have my sights already set on exploration, it's the goal I've always wanted and something I've based my ship selection around. Even my cargo ships are stepping stones to ensure I earn enough credits to go towards outfitting my Carrack or DUR for exploration missions.
I did buy the Super Hornet as a combat ship but that's about it in terms of combat. Although we will all try different roles in the verse, I do agree it's important to have either a org goal or personal goal. Something to work towards. With your six ships try to think how you will use them.
Your Day 1 ship - your at your weakest point in game. First thing to do is to earn some credits. Bounty hunting, cargo run, racing etc - For me, I choose the Hull B, it's a ship I'll start to earn a few credits from.
From this I'll move into my industrial ship, the Starfarer. I now have enough credits to hire some crew (or share profits with org mates). I'll collect, refine and sell my fuel.
A few good runs of this should allow me to have enough to outfit my DUR with the best equipment. Time to try my first exploration mission.... And so it continues.
It may not workout likes this but I have my goal and I work my ships in around this. You could try this.
The ship i was on about was the redeemer, i thought this would of been a great ship to run alongside people with, like if people went exploring i would join them in this ship then when we find a suitable planet and land so can i, this then gives me a nice supporting role which i can feel useful in doing. that was my idea for this ship anyway and i like the style and look of this ship.
The ships i have and how i intend to use them :
First of is that sexy sabre. This is one ship i dont think i will ever want to get rid of and depending on how it runs, costs to keep running and ability to be a bounty hunter ship will kinda depend if this will be my first ship i will use and i will mostly be using this ship as a combat ship, doing bounty hunter missions and escort missions in it.
Next is the Constellation Aquila and she is a real beauty. this is the only ship i currently have that isn't primarily a combat ship and will be the ship that i would like to go exploring in, but i will need to have some money to get the manpower to get this beauty up and running. so i will need to earn some money before i can go exploring in this ship so this will be one of the last ships i will be using.
Then are the ships i aint to sure what to do with:
Reliant Tana (Skirmisher) this is my little dagger form what i can tell and very small but quick ship. this might be one of the three ships i will start with if not this the sabre or the Gladius. this ship seems to be good in numbers and is good for small securit, i think this would be a nice small ship to have on board a bigger ship and then can be deployed when its needed but then i think if this is possible why wouldn't bring the sabre then to do that ? i love the look of the ship and it might be the first one i use to get the basic credits and then i can see what i think of the ship and can see if it has a future.
Now the Gladius. This is the one ship i ain't sure what to do with this is one of the basic fighters in game and i believe is one of the main ships you will be using in the campaign, this ship might be a good starting ship for the bounty hunting itea but its also a ship i might upgrade and that's its to one of these two ships the freelancer or the redeemer. i aint sure what one of these two i will get but am leaning toward the freelancer for now but i ain't sure weather to get rid of this ship or not.
The Aurora MR hmmmm not sure what to say about this ship. this is my first ship i got due to the deal but i just dont really like it and cant see it being useful, so aint sure what to do with this little ship so might be getting rid of this to get a bigger ship.
Last but not least my needle the P-52 Merlin. i love this tiny ship i think it looks brilliant and kind ( kinda ) reminds me of general grievous ship in the third star wars film. this is a very small ship and i ain't sure how to use this little guy, my idea was having it aboard some one else's ship and then i can use it when needed.
So please if you have any comments or ideas on ways i can make better uses of my ships or just anything on how i am thinking of playing this game please say
RT, this is only my opinion and is based on what I would do with your ships. Your obviously love your combat so I'll stear it closer to this. The Sabre, this isn't my type of ship but I totally understand why people like it. (I don't like ships that look like aircraft) it's a fast fighter that has trouble being detected. But like the F9 Lightning? is a upgrade to the Hornet, I thought the Sabre was the upgrade to the Gladius. Do you need the Gladius when you already have a superior version?
Prehapes being more combat orientated your Day 1 ship should be a bounty hunter ship. This will earn you credits and give you your combat buzz. So you need Cells, I would melt the Gladius and pick up a Avenger. Or melt Gladius +1 other to pick up a Cutlass. You could go the information root, steal that vital data. For the same price as the Gladius you could get a Drake Herald. Or for the same price a Hull B and do a few cargo runs. Either way I would suggest you buy a money earner.
But if your happy to keep to the combat side and want the Redeemer, then I would melt the Gladius, Aurora and Relient, this gives you most of the funds for a Redeemer. You could always borrow a money making ship (as suggested in topic) or join someone like me in the Starfarer. Get a share of the profits!! ;)
Again these are only suggestions. And I hope they help.
Ps How's your racing skills :)
quick question how do i melt ships ?
Firstly thanks kal for all this even tho it's your option i appreciate you talking to me about this. it great to talk to you all about this massive universe, its one of my fav things about this game is the ability to talk about it and speculate about it.I like the look of sabre as you might tell and do like the way some of the ships look fight planes, but that's just me. No i dont need the gladius really so will look at trading it up or melting it when i know how to so that i can get one of the other ships but not sure which on. i think with the sabre as well i dont mind being detected i think that's one of the things about the sabre i dont mind to much as long as the ship can handle it, if tias a good fighter then it's fine. in my eyes its like a tank in a way they're hard to hide but hard tough as nails, they are super strong by having great armour and can also take the fight to them with its large and strong weaponry.
So you think that the avenger ( which i was going to buy but didn't in the end because i brought the gladius) i think its a good idea to get this ship for one i love that it has a holding bay so that i can capture people/ bounties. The cutlass ...hmm not one that i can say i have thought of buying after watching two of them get killed by the freelancer is a bit of a off but i know its just a video to make the ship look cool. i will have a look into the ship tho and see what i think of it i know that's it was used by police and militia, so by this must be good for these to use them.
I aint sure on the redeemer and that's why i have asked you guys on your options on it, i know you all know this game better then me and probably know the ships better then me as well. i would be more then happy to accompany you on your starfarer or anyones ship really i love the idea of working together to make a ship better and then sharing the profit between the crew.
i dont see me as being a transporter, right now it might change in game but for now i can't see me doing a lot of these runs unless i was playing with other people, say if you were doing a transport run i would accompany you either in a transporter or using a more combat oriented ship to help you and make sure you get from point A to point B safely. right now the best ship i would buy that would be good at transporting cargo would be the freelancer.
thanks again everyone
When you click on the ship in your list it should say "Exchange for store credit" follow from there!
I'm on a ferry to Denmark and the Internet is awful... Sorry for short message!

racing skills ... this is the second time this has came up now and its interests me that it has came up twice now. um racing skills i would say i am okay at racing it really depends lol, i dont mind a good races sometimes so will have a look into races but why do you mention it ?

Im not sure if I've understood you correctly. Did you say that you think the Sabre is a tank? If so, then you're in for a disappointment: it's a glass cannon! It's primary role is stealth/strike and it's only real defence is to get out of dodge fast! It can't take fire, and isn't supposed to: it's supposed to stay undetected, get in close, unleash hell, and then run away.

Ah okay then thanks very much I didn't really know that and appreciate you telling me that, as I said before you know more about these ships then I do haha, even tho it's a glass cannon I don't think I would change it for anything
Also Obsydian how many ships do you own ?

Far too many :)
There's the dMw Fleet Tool which is handy. (At the top of the SC forums.)
There's also some graphs here and there showing ship types, and amounts.
i know but when i go down the list nearly every other ship obsidian seems to have lol
I found this video RT and thought you may enjoy it. I thought the Ninja Fighter description very apt.
Enjoy
