As suggested by Sparko, a thread for us to post flight event ideas.
Here's one to get the ball rolling:
VOR Night
- basic default prop aircraft
- pre-planned course VOR-VOR
- explanation of VOR, how to set up the plane's nav equipment
- how to follow the VOR data
- differences between VOR DME and just a DME, to and from etc
- Complete a planned flight through some scenic area, using VOR only.
I understood almost none of that, other than 'explanation of' and 'how to' so I think it might be useful for me pop along and learn :)
couple of useful articles/ videos out there

Thanks TL, thats Januarys event for me to work on :)
Bah simple stuff, stick the ADF in there as well.
VOR is also used for ILS glideslope once localiser is established.
All are used for a stack and procedural landing.
I need to get some practice in for this to renew my IMC in May (now called a restricted instrument rating).
VOR is pretty much point to point stuff under instrument conditions using compass radials, I suppose if there is DME in there as well then you can break off once you are at a certain distance, but you will still be heading from beacon to beacon.

Counting on you for the tutorial and a bit of training then :)
Hi,
I was thinking of writing something about this, but I have missed this thread.
I was thinking something similar to what TL posted. And I had ENAL to ENOV in mind.
I was going to suggest to set up the weather with overcast 2500 feet, no wind, and then take off from ENAL climb out on the 199 radial from the VIG VOR to 5000 feet. Then switch on the ADF and head towards the BVK NDB. There you start a turn to 264 deg while descending to 4000. You then switch the radio to the HN localizer and turn to intercept the 122 course. This is called the IF (intermediate fix). (DME 11 from HN)
We then descend to 3500 towards the FAP (final approach point) . At FAP (DME 6) we start a steep descent (650feet per minute at 90 knots) still on 122deg. At DME 4 we should be at 2640 feet.
At the Missed approach point (MAPt) 2 NM DME from HE You should be able to land VFR or start the Go around procedure.
We could do this several time until people get comfortable. I suggest a small plane with 2xNAV radios and ADF. Preferably without GPS or with it off. Autopilot prefered. It is easiest in the beginning to fly with AP.
Next month we could do another approach. I can upload a approach chart for this if you want. (can I upload images to the forum or do I have to store them elsewhere?)
Anyway this is what I had in mind. Since this thread is a few days now, maybe you guys have other plans ?

Sounds good to me Vobler, although I need to know what the majority of that means first.
Before we do something like that I think we should get together and go through a few things. Anyone available Wednesday night for a few hops?
I'll still post something up for a January fly in at some point but there's no reason why we can't get together and go through a few things.
Also there's nothing stopping you guys from organising some flight sessions if you feel you want to, I'm quite happy organising the monthly fly ins but if you want to organise somthing on a random night get it posted up and I'm sure there will be interest :)

I'll try to be on TS wednesday.

I'll be happy to teach any of you what I know about this kind of flying. It is quite easy and very satisfying when you do it.
I can not host a server though, but being on TS together might be good enough..
good fun tonight, thanks to allt hose who helped me out...anyhow some pics, sparko was in some of them... ;_)

If you want to see how it looks in real life check this out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26oNzssNXKs (the drone lands 500m from my house :-))
This guy has loads of drone videos from this area.
We went up to the glass roof restaurant (also seen as the white house on the hill opposite that peninsula in the second video) one night to check out the view and it is seriously impressive.
Right, I think we are well overdue an event.....in fact it's ridiculously overdue!
Ideas please guys :)
Would be nice maybe to do something accross the pond for a change?
If people have got Orbx Pacific North West, a tour of the Cascades in Oregon would be a potential one. Lots of nice mountains and tricky airfields.
Sounds good that, and I have it.
