Hey guys,
I just wanted to let you know that I the regular pub meet for Star Citizen fans, usually held in Crawley, will be moving this one time to Fulham in London on Saturday 9th January @ 3pm (details here (http://www.meetup.com/Star-Citizen-UK-Meetup/events/227884759/) or here (https://www.facebook.com/events/794804257311835/)).
No promises, as we are still waiting on confirmation, but it looks like we might get a visit from Sandi Gardiner! :)
Although we're predominantly about Star Citizen, we discuss other games too, so if you're in the area and fancy a pint or two, feel free to drop by.
Cheers,
Obsydian.

Now there's a salesman!
DAMN! Can't make this
Sandi attending is now confirmed! :yahoo:
Apparently, she is going to see if she can drag Chris along as well, but that's not guaranteed.
Unfortunately for me, it's looking unlikely that I can attend myself, which is a bit of a bummer :crying:
I'd have preferred Ben Lesnick, he's my kinda guy :D
Wow Obsydian that is awesome, I so wish I could be there. Well done for arranging this, could be special.
I'll be there anyway.
I'm working in London on Saturday. Waterloo to be precise. But I doubt I'll be done in time to get over to Fulham.

What Mrs Sulky doesn't know, won't hurt her.
Oh, and we just had a flash message for you: apparently you are required to pick up an urgent package of airframe spares from Fulham at 3.00pm today. Not sure if this helps! :p
She laughed...so no but thanks for trying

Did this actually happen?
Yes. Photo is already on Sandi's Facebook I believe. They spent just under 3 hours there with us and we had a great time. Picture is courtesy of Smilodon who used Sandi's phone. Smilo also has a set of photos using his camera which he had with him.

Interesting news and bits I remember from the conversation (Chris was sat directly opposite me for most of the time so I had a great spot from which to listen and ask daft questions):
-Star Wars 7 was designed to be 'ok', but Star Wars 8 is where the action is at and should blow your mind.
-The game is pretty much done in terms of the features they want to include, they're now working on delivering them.
-Discussion about the benefits of PTU testing and the value to them. TLDR get onto the PTU and use it. It slows down what they do now as they have to create and then fix, but in the long run should mean we get a far better game. They described it as invaluable when they move from 24 internal testers, to 1,000 on PTU, to anything from 10,000-100,000 on Live Alpha.
-The Saitek HOTAS is *very* close to release, the only delay at the moment is the delivery costs (ie to UK costs about $20, but Australia costs about $175). 7% of the player base is in the land down under, so postage/courier costs are an issue which Sandi has almost resolved with Saitek. They suggested saving some money for February when they'll be doing an initial run of 2,000 Special Edition HOTAS which will have numbered plaques and be signed. These will be based on the mid-range HOTAS model and a figure of circa $200 was mentioned.
-The full range of HOTAS models should be out shortly after this Special Edition is done.
-They are currently reviewing the CDN and cloud compute source (currently Google for the games and Amazon for the CDN), but could move some servers to Amazon: Amazon have better global coverage, but Google's dark fibre datacentre links give them a connectivity advantage.
-Erin really likes beer, so we invited Chris & Erin (yeah and Sandi too) to the GBBF trip next year as they will be heading over to the UK for Citizencon in week 3 of August, so they could come earlier and do the beer festival too!
-Chris will be spending a lot of time in the UK this year, completing editing and Squadron 42.
-Confirmed Starfarer about to go to hangar.
-Lots of discussion about the game and the coop mechanics and ways we can get involved together. All good stuff, all what DMW want and will enjoy.
-It sounds cheesy, but if I were Chris and was in a bar answering what were no doubt the same old questions for the millionth time, I'd be a little jaded. But my hat is off to Chris & Sandi, they were friendly, engaged, talkative, laughing and basically really nice people to spend some time with over several pints of beer. Much respect, Chris & Sandi.
-we talked about a bunch more, but it was just continuous talking, so forgive me if that's all I remember at the moment. I'm sure Smilo and Suicidal will chip in with more recollections in due course.

I know you were distracted by Chris and all, but I hadn't realised that you'd not recognised me :eyebrow:
Seriously though, nice to see you guys, and pretty cool that they turned up :-)
Wow!! That's incredible guys! Rather jealous
Would love to meet Chris, how cool is he meeting up with people like that, what an absolute credit to the gaming world :thumb:
Nice write up TeaLeaf!
I'm so ****ed that I couldn't make the bloody event that I helped organise! :ranting2:
Still, I'm glad that you all appeared to have had a good time - hopefully I'll get to the next one!

i only know the guy in the middle lol
Gutted. I would've loved to have been there.
Sounds like you had a fantastic time and I wish I could of been there also. Really looking forward to seeing the Starfarer in hangar.
any chance you mentioned about this years egx show? and if they would be attending?

I doubt they will be at EGX as is costs quite a lot for a stand. In the past, CIG have only attended expos where they were 'piggy backing' on another supplier's stand - e.g. Logitech, where Logitech had their joysticks hooked up to PCs running Star Citizen - or where Chris was heading up a panel of some sort talking about game design etc.
Agreed, but they did say they'll be doing Citizencon again this year, 3rd or 4th weekend in August.
