Title: Herbivore Island
Post by: Galatoni on February 04, 2016, 11:49:16 AM
For those players that would like to have a more straight forward, safer pace of life. I give to you: Herbivore Island.

Located in the idyllic setting of the South East corner of the map (http://www.ark-survival.net/en/dynamic-livemap/?mapid=999057251) it is the perfect location to set up a safe place to call home.

Advertisements aside, this is an idea floated by myself and Sith in order to give people the chance to set up shop somewhere relatively safe. It could be done as a tribe alliance or as an off-shoot of the Southern Beards. Either way, transport wouldn't be a problem by boat, some beds could easily be set up to allow access... so all-in-all...

...Good idea?

Each time we've been, there haven't been any carnivore spawns and hardly any insects. Its a really good place to construct, the only real downer would be space.

We have a base on the Penninsula overlooking the island so will be available to help out as needed.

It'll be tight on space for sure but let me do a little more of an in-depth survey of it and I'll report back.

A nice start to get use to the game but when you leave, destroy your base?

I need to destroy my little wooden resources hut. Maybe there is some project ongoing there already :/

Yes, I flew over there earlier today and saw a chest and a structure in the sea.

As a base it's ok but seems a long way from the main hub. Is the main keep really too dangerous?

Not in my opinion, not seen any rex's or Spinos enter the keep directly, but have seen the odd Alpha raptor, if the wall is complete it should be fine in my opinion but have halted due to resource spawning

I was talking to sith earlier and i think  this would be a good area for the new starters i think most people are already in game but form now on we should let the new people live here then they can move up to the keep area later on. This way they can get the full experience out of this game. Most of us had to this and i remember using this island as my own home on the old server i played on till about lvl 20 then i needed to go and find a bigger place with more dinos. If we clear out the island we can then let the new people spawn there and do whatever they want to with the island as they can make there first thatch base there and start to learn about taming their first dino with the basic like we all had to sat the start hitting a trike with a slingshot then feeding it a load of narco berries to keep it down.

With the keep being so full now it would be a good idea to get the new people started up away form it then give them the option to move to the keep later on if they wanted to, this would keep a nice barrier where we would have medium level and low levels on two nice places the mediums move to the keep while the starters keep on this nice little island. i ain't trying to get rid of them but it would give them a better start and a more survival start to the game where advanced players cant just hold there hands. This should also keep down the deaths of the new people and they wont have to worry about being killed by some of the bigger predators and can just focus on the core game and learn how it all works. We will all  be there to help they will have snaeakytiger base looking over the island so it not like they are cut off from us.

For the large part. This is a game where things can go wrong very horribly, very quickly. My thinking is that people don't intentionally expect to affect anyone elses game by accidentally killing off dinos and destroying buildings. But none-the-less it happens. The island would give people a relatively safe place to understand construction, taming, farming and handling deaths.

Now I don't want to ruin the lovely aesthetic of the island too much by placing stuff all over it. But I have a suggestion that should suffice. A simple set of rules that should allow people to get the most out of the area before moving on. These are my suggestions, but rather than have a closed debate, i'd rather throw this out to everyone.

1. Senior players (anyone above 20) must not build on the island - with the exception of a set of beds which will be created in a small house on the island to allow teleporting/spawning.
2. It is suggested that players join the island to learn the ropes and move on (at roughly level 20), though there may be some players that wish to stay longer and this is fine.
3. Players should build a house in the area of the island that is situated immediately next to the beach and the cliff. It should (ideally) be no larger than 4x4, but can be as high as 3 levels. The area described here, shall be known as 'the Village' (?)
4. When players choose to leave, they should destroy their constructions or pass them on to someone (though the latter is not recommended for experience).
5. Players may maintain a farming plot, but any water containers should be part of their 'home construction'. No pipework should be fed from the sea.

Alternatives may be that huts are built off a pontoon that sits in the shallow bay - paradise style? Its all up for debate.
Thoughts?

This is really an admin decision chaps so ultimately it's up to Grim and you chaps but it all sounds good to me on the proviso Snokio is happy to kill his project there.

Like I said, I'm just a couple of mins flight over the headland and the OB/Chaos/Sulky triumvirate are also close.

Yes, you're right of course. Grim, sorry, shouldn't have done that. Your call, your decision.

I think you've misread my post :flirty:

You are of course an admin so my post was saying that it's up to you lot collectively to decide how to proceed. There was no implied criticism :).

In order to facilitate all this. I've moved this thread to admin so you can discuss there.

Well i got a nice welcome back home if i see the forum.

Well all have a good point and it is indeed a nice area for people that just start the game (a bit small, especially for a few players).
But as Snokio has something starting there, we will have to see how far that is and if Snokio is up for making that area able for new players.

But also we are not going to force people on that little island, we will hand them that option that there is a almost save little island where they can start, to get ready for the mainland.
But if people want to be thrown into the deep then we shouldn't and won't stop them.

If we are going to make that part of the map a starting area, i would love only to see 1 or 2 large boxes where they can put in their stuff they pick up in the start until they get a little house them selves.
A raft close by with 1 or 2 beds, might be an option, but my feeling says that we will be looking for that raft alot, so 1 or 2 beds on the island incase of teleporting or respawning.
And for the rest they are on their own, as it is a survival game after all.

But lets have a chat about this and see if Snokio is up for a move to somewhere else, which i think he will, and we will of course help with that if needed etc.

Totally agree man, I loved the initial survival aspect and it'd be a shame for people to loose out on that, the beds on rafts are a good idea to avoid despawning stuff, beyond that, its a very small island, a medium structure could destroy all nodes? Sparko joined today, and was quite happy to start out at sneaky's instead of the keep, but i gave him the tour anyhow :D
