Well i got the next message on steam from Rogue:
QuoteHello there grimnar I am sorry to bother you but I had a bit of a new idea for ark. With so many people on there I thought it would be nice to have a but of a friendly competition with the dmw community and I think it's Bit over due that we all get together and have some fun. Recently I did the csgo comp and even tho people like me who wasn't that good had a good blast playing the everyone on csgo. I think we should get a temp server for just a night say and we should all get together and play a game of survival of the fittest. Now you might think people may not like it or even you might not like the game mode but it would show people a way to ark that on our sever they don't get to see and that's the fast based pvp aspect of ark. I was thinking of having either teams of 3 or 4 people on each team depending on the number of people that are interested in this game. I have asked oldie and he said we could get a server for this very easily so it is possible but only if you think it's a good idea. I know I ain't no admin and people are a bit ****ed with me but I thought this would be a good fun idea to do with everyone on the sever to go from a Slower based ark to a fast based ark which gets your heart racing as you only have one life and you got to watch out for other players and dinos
What do you guys think of this idea?
I aint so sure if this is a good idea to do, i aint really up for something like this and just fine with the normal server. You will need quite a lot of people to make this work and it will divide the tribe a bit aswell for my feeling as with small teams everyone wants to be teamed up with the more experienced players... that kind of story.
And most of the players just started playing this game and play it to relax and take it all in easy etc.
Just a few things that pop in my mind when thinking of doing something like that with our group.
Please give some info on what you guys think of it
I'll talk to rogue about actually just getting together as part of a 4man team in the 4player SOTF officially hosted by Ark, I don't particularly see a point in us having any kind of secondary server or anything like that. The competitive side of Ark is a very different bag of tricks, and like you say grim, rivalries only seperate people not bring them closer, so I'd say, a few guys that are interested, we can go do some SOTF together, otherwise, nah, our server is for progression and the world as a big tribe :D
I know nothing about SOTF. Would this be something we could do at the LAN?

It's the competitive component to Ark, basically ramped up leveling and resource gathering, a time limit, usually 1hour, and small tribes either single man tribes or 4man tribes pitted against eachother.
The matches I enjoy taking part in are 4man tribe, 1hour, 100 player matches, so what would be 25, 4 man teams against eachother. Everyone drops into the center of the map and either tries to grab loot at the center, or scatter and then work on leveling and surviving until its last tribe standing. It's insanely good fun, and extremely tense stuff since the matches feature survival events like dropping carnivores out the sky at players, or revealing player locations with beams of light...
This video shows a really quick glance at whats involved:

As for hosting it at the LAN, well my best guess is THIS https://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/10/530649887204866610/ (https://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/10/530649887204866610/) article might help? But I could look into it more seriously if you'd like?
It's an incredibly fun game mode, I posted about people wanting to join me back in Ark's heyday but there wasn't much traction back then when there were only 5 of us :D
EDIT: Oh and its easily described by just saying its HUNGER GAMES or BATTLE ROYAL but Ark style, and the game shows your face in the sky with a gong sound when you get killed so everyone knows in the match that you've died... Here's a picture of my dead lifeless body and call out in the winter event hosted by Ark dev's called Naughty or Nice, which was SoTF in the snowy time and 100 vs 100
