Dead Men Walking

Well ever since they added the Giganotosaurus (http://ark.gamepedia.com/Giganotosaurus) there is been talk of taming one.
This aint an easy tame and surely not doable solo mode. I shot a lvl 4 down only once and it took 110 tranq arrows to do so. And when i noticed that torpor level i made sure i had time to escape and to give it another try another time.

And as this is sort of a 1 time event at least untill we have recovered and are not scared anymore to take on another one, we will want as many people there to unlock the dossier.
This is really a tribe project! and one that needs a lot of preparation to be even ready to take one on.


I want everyone to sort of get ready for a tame like this and help the tribe to get one.
Please feel free to add information / stuff what you think is needed to tame one and to keep it save!


As said this is going to be a tribe thing and i don't want people to just look to the lvl 60 and above and expect that they will do everything, that isn't going to happen.
We all are going to have to work together to get this tame done.


Some info:
After the Giganotosaurus is tamed, it won't be a friendly stego standing at your little house. It will need to be locked away in a metal box away from anyone his/her base. That is including away from the Druglords their bases!
They have already suffered enough damage while not being online, i don't want us to create extra damage that could have been prevented.

So we need a lot of stuff to get ready for a tame, so please all help out to figure out what is needed and how we are going to finalise this.


List:
A place for the metal box.
4 metal behemoths gates (would love to have a roof on top of it)
A place where we can land our birds and put our ground dino's when we are picking up the Giga (means a small dino pen next to the lockbox for the giga)

4 / 5 Full Fur armor sets for the tame for those that are running around to keep Giga down and to keep it fed.
A metal boat (if it is a beach tame that would be smart to have, which can hold enough people to get close when tame done for the dossier aswell, but not the size as the Ark)
Maybe 1 / 2 Quetzals with a platform saddle, to tranq the Giga with stuff on it to keep people save and warm.

Quetzal eggs to make kibble to make it a bit of easier tame.
Otherwise is a few of us hunting for prime (is easy if you have fur armor in the snow area)
A lot of Narcotics is needed.

So are you guys up for this? To work to comming weeks towards this objective to really be ready to tame one.
Please add all the information you think is needed for this, if it is about the tame or has to be put on the to do list etc.


Keep in mind this aint the main objective, we are not going to rush this and put everything aside to make this happen. The normal Ark play just goes on and this is something if you have spare time and can do something to work towards this objective then it is nice.
But have a chat with each other and we will make this work.

I'm certainly up for it. I'd need to know which night is best so I can make time to come on.

This sounds great grim would love to join in and help where I can. I have the ability to make full fur armour so am happy to make armour if I get the materials and will try to get some extra for other people to help with the tame. I think the idea of keeping it as well from everyone is a good idea tho just make sure it can't rage anywhere like you said. We will have a find a nice place to display it

We could build a cage for it down by the keep, on the bit of beach / grassland between the keep and the snow area.

It is far enough away that it won't cause a problem, and there is a big flat open area there for a metal 'cage'.

I'm up for this :) might be worth starting up a google spreadsheet to record what we need and what we have? Also help everyone see what they can contribute to.

Basic idea is to record who's involved and what engrams we need and have available.

Other tabs/sheets to help record progress for things like armour, structures, mobility (boats, quetz, etc).

The idea being that anyone can check the spreadsheet and workout where contributions are needed.

I also suggest we log what we contribute.

As Grimnar said at the end of his post, this isn't the end goal and shouldn't be a focus for everyone. We're just going to plod along getting set-up and when everything is in place we can arrange the date.

Not everyone needs a fur armor set. That is for those that will do the hunting and defense part of the tame.
The rest of the group that keep that thing in sleep mode should be able to keep warm enough with fireplaces etc.
it that aint the case then someone with a full fur set has to keep the tame in sleep mode while others take care of hunting prime and for it's defense.

The thing you got to think of is each of us have different Dinos and are different levels people of higher Levels have better gear and experience, not the mention the better Dinos aswell. With each of us being better at different roles all depending on the person and level. You ain't going to get grim watching the Dino when he could be out killing and getting prime because that's what's he would be better at due to his level. People with high level Dinos for example argy's they would be best to go around the are getting rid of dangerous animals and getting prime where you could have a few people with raptors around there dino making site nothing does get trough. So it depends on the people and you will have to look and each play and see what they can do.

When I say hunting I just mean tagging along on the back of a quetz or your own flying mount. Even then if we are in the Snow Biom you will freeze to death without Fur unless your stood between 2 fires.

I don't think we should be taking any other dinos tbh? But they might be useful for protection once it's down.

Weather we bring dinos is up to all you admins. I think we would need the, diffidently need argus for protections, they can see further and have the ability to pick up and kill quick moving dinos like raptors and sabre tooth kitty's. We could use quetzals like you and grim said so that we use them as shooting platforms but that also means you can pick people up with Argy's and they can shoot it while you hold them in the sky.

Fur armour is very valuable as you found out a while back it is a very useful bit of kit but expensive it's best to kit as many people up with this as we can so this ensures maximum protections and maximum bodies in the field to help with the Dino, if we have to many people needing to get out the cold or having loads of fired this could take up time and might risk the operation a bit.

Yea just getting that pelt is the painful bit. But would be nice for everyone to have some fur armour anyway :)

It just comes down to how much ppl are prepared to grind resources, hoping the spreadsheet will make organising that a little less painful. could be a month before we are prepared :)

Although this might not be an option due to terrain etc but if close enough to the warmer zone  maybe we could lure one out of the cold? I have done this with birds and alphas before so could be a possibility? Bare in mind I have not seen how they move around and what their bite damage is :). Just a thought

Hah, I've been updating some points on the spreadsheet already, so it goes without saying I'm there to help with the hunting/ guarding side of things

I'll try and help if needed. I've done some hoarding at mine and Brian's house. Let me know if you can use something from there or just take it an let me know (not that much high stuff yet but some metal/bars/hides).

If you get to close that would almost mean an instant death for you and your dino. Sithy found that out already.
Kiting is an option while we try to tranq it down we can try and move it to somewhere we want to.
But that is all something for the day it self.

First lets get all the recourses etc. then the tame it self will be discussed.

Already found a location where to build the cage to keep the Giga in. Will be starting to work on it the comming few days/weeks.

If people have spare metal please get those to the build site if possible, otherwise store them and give a shout when there is enough for an airlift.
Also we are in need of a large stockpile of Cementing Paste to craft the metal structure all donations are welcome!

Thanks to Galatoni who did a metal run to get some metal for the cage i came this far.
I am at the moment out of cementing paste to go on with building.

As some already know, since last Saturday morning there is a tamed Giga standing in the cage, that i tamed on my own.

About why:
I have already been jumping around to give it another go for a few weeks, and after the mossasaur tame i knew i was as good as ready to tame one.
I planned the tame and also to test out if i was up to the task this time, as the first go didn't really go well, but then i was still low lvl with standard gear etc.


With this tame i took a risk, a risk that would have been taken anyway. None of us knew what would happen when one of the 2 giga's got taken out.
We learned what happend Friday evening the day before the tame, when i took out one of the two giga's.
I wasn't expecting it to happen but it did, one spawned just above Lib his base, we took care of it and Saturday we did the same again.
What we learned of this was that the server wants two giga's alive on the server. If you kill a Giga the next day at exact the same time of the kill a new one will spawn.
But with a tame the question stays open as when a new one will spawn.


What i am saying here is:
When someone or a group tries to tame or kill one of the two wild Giga's they have to make sure that the new one that will spawn will be taken care off if that spawn is not in the snow area!



As for the tamed Giga:
She is standing in the cage, at the moment the cage isn't finished but it is big enough to handle the tame and keep everything save.
People can fly over to see it and at the moment land next to it (the risk is yours if you do that). The small area next to the Giga is avail to the whole tribe with the tribe pincode.
The cage it self on the other hand is only accessible by the admins. The saddle isn't at the cage that is stored for save keeping in my own base.

Yeah but a lot of the fun is doing it for the first time (I promise I'm still talking about ark).

Now that it's already been done on the server it's less exciting, at least that's how I feel, maybe others disagree. It's like if we have already shown one or two of us can do it what's the allure of all getting together as a team to then do it, we already know it's relatively easy and doesn't require the whole team behind it...

I would just say that next time we plan a group activity we don't then randomly split off and do it individually...is a bit disappointing at least for me...again others may disagree
