Title: VGA out to one of HDMI, SCART or Composite
Post by: suicidal_monkey on February 28, 2016, 03:46:48 PM
I have an HP n40l server that is currently sat under my TV. The way I have the server set up means that I have to enter HDD passwords on boot. Most time I can do this without a screen but occasionally it ends up stuck on the OS selection menu or waiting for some other input during boot (i.e. no remote access) and I have to fetch and hook up my old monitor to it.

The server has only VGA. The TV has HDMI, SCART, Composite/RCA, Component and aerial/satellite inputs, but no VGA.

Any ideas how to link the two in some straightforward way for this (very occasional) use without spending £30 on a gfx card?

Thanks, but note that the top item (just a cable) is basically a con - VGA and HDMI are not directly convertible! Some of the £6-7ish ones claim to convert from HDMI to VGA (for e.g. RPi to old VGA monitor) but not the other way around. At around £13 there are a few that claim to do VGA to HDMI (but not the other way around) that might be ok, but I was hoping there was a VGA to something like scart or composite hook-up that would just work - all I need is enough to see console text well enough to know where it's stuck. :)
