Title: External graphics cards

This sounds interesting. Imagine having a thin laptop with great battery then being able to plug in your external gfx card and play on ultra settings. Would make going to lans a lot easier too!

interesting idea and a good one.  Im betting the price would be sky high though, would definitely make things a lot easier on the move.

True.Especially to start with though since AMD want to standardise the connections and such more companies would be free to come up with their own solutions, more competition and hopefully cheaper prices

For us on foreign soil, I can't see me bringing along a big ole box like that with me to the LAN. Although if it makes laptops more upgrade-able then I'm all for it. The problem with laptops and and graphics cards upgrades I believe is the vBIOS support and willingness for the OEM to actually support a laptop long enough to get to the point of needing an upgrade to the gfx card.

Why not just buy an ITX case and put your whole PC in there?

No screen, no keyboard, not flat, heavy, additional baggage, not used day to day at home (I have a good rig for that).

You forgot the mouse!
However, for gaming I find myself using the Steam Controller exclusively these days and curse the times I revert to a mouse / gaming pad.
Which is a shame as my brand new G13 pad to replace my broken Nostromo is pretty unused ....

I can see the idea behind it, but once you've purchased the laptop, GPU and this box is it really worth it? If your gonna sit on a desk to game (presuming the gpu box sits on a desk) you may aswell use a desktop and save your laptop for work.
