I'm interested in setting up a small network of S.A.R.A's or
Search
And
Rescue
Argies.
My thought was that we have 3 or 4 argies (painted red?) and located in key areas with their own dedicated bed
Then, if someone shouts for help, anyone can fast travel to that bird, kit up and fly to the rescue.
As fast travel drops any items, each bird should have the following in its inventory at all times:
- Two sets of Hide Armour
- Two sets of stone or metal weapons and tools
- Two full water Jars (or waterskins which will need to be filled)
- A campfire
- Four torches
- Some wood or thatch
- Compass (or GPS).
It would mean we can get in and rescue someone quickly whilst not being ill-prepared. All that would be needed is the rescuer to fast travel in, suit up and go, grabbing some meat on the way for food.
It would be up to the person being rescued to resupply the bird before it's returned to its original location on standby. Obviously both rescuer and rescuee would put back the armour and weapons before fast travelling / flying back or continuing their activities.
The argies would need to be located in areas where there are existing troughs so they nab some food and locations suggested include
1. The Volcano (To cover the N and NW)
2. Near the Red Beacon (to cover the SW)
3. Near the Green Beacon (to cover the Centre and SE)
4. Possibly a location NE (tbc).
Oldie and Sneaky have offered up their respective bases which would cover points 3 and 4 and the Volcano would be ideal.
The beds would need to be clearly marked for Fast Travellers (SARA Volcano, SARA Red, SARA Green etc) and I like the idea of them being dyed red for ease of location in (potentially) a crowded base.
Anyone think this is a good idea?
Anything else to be considered as core inventory?
Any other area need to be covered and a location for the argie?
If deemed a go'er, anyone fancy helping out with this and volunteering items?
Obviously the birds themselves, the dyeing and the saddles would be the most challenging to pull together.
I am willing to set something to set up one near my base, as i don't think having one in the snow area is really helping but one near it might.
Great idea, Pen. Count me in :thumb:
Just a thing:
The volcano maybe only needs a bed in the crater it self and a bird to use, otherwise more metal nodes will be gone.
I'm up for helping out, as I was one of those who needed to be rescued. Untill Grim/Ice mentioned that while looking through the scope you can call back your birds also.
S.A.R.A NW has been build and stocked with the stuff asked for, will put a bird there a bit later.
S.A.R.A Green Tower
Bed in place. Bird to follow.
I have GPS's
Thanks chaps :-)
I propose to a mass Argie tame in an area where we can do 3 or 4 at once. Oldie has offered to help but others would be appreciated. If we can get a prime meat run going it shouldn't be too bad.
S.A.R.A Red tower is done.
Ha! This idea is both awesome and amazing. What a good idea!

Bird in situ - painted bright red and fully kitted out :D
Superb idea, I love it. What's the punishment for crying wolf? :P

Building 40 behemoth gates for me :D
I'll handle the S.A.R.A. Volcano, get it kitted out and painted red. As mentioned above, we'll just put a bed butted up to the existing building to minimise any risk to the resources.
Following our mass tame, we have a spare S.A.R.A. which I'll kit up, paint and house at mine. We'll call it S.A.R.A. SE for the time being and it will be available for south sea rescue and surrounding environs but can be relocated as needed.
Not sure that the Keep wouldn't be a logical spot for this S.A.R.A to cover the snowlands? What do you think? Long-term it would be nice to have a couple of sets of fur armour for the Northern birds but that'll be some way off given the cost and effort of getting the pelt.

OT but thinking about your dino gates, I see that it's a LOT cheaper on resources to just build behemoth gates rather than using walls...... nice idea but can't wait for you to accidentally open the wrong door to let in the dino equivalent of the Zombie Apocalypse :)
When the birds level up, please just go for speed and stamina in the first instance - once they get that sorted we can work on melee.
You could put one on a boat? Have you stuck the SARA locations on the map?
http://www.ark-survival.net/en/dynamic-livemap/?mapid=999057251
S.A.R.A. locations are on the map.
Haven't done a boat as I think feeding may be an issue.
Looking at the current locations, I think we're pretty well covered so we'll get the existing ones set-up and see how we go.
Thanks to the others which have set up birds. I have had a little scoot round and there's a few items missing from some such as campfires, water jars and the such. If water jars are an issue then perhaps just a couple of waterskins could be used. I know they'll need to be filled each time but it's only a quick job and can be done when getting food and would suffice.
Is it possible to have the SARA shown on a map so we can see roughly their locations?

Current Status:
S.A.R.A. Green - complete bar water and Compass/GPS
S.A.R.A. Red - complete bar water and Compass/GPS
S.A.R.A. Volcano - needs doing (I'll try to do later)
S.A.R.A. SE - needs doing (I'll try to do later)
S.A.R.A. NW - needs painting and water
The GPS Compass/GPS is a luxury and can wait.
I think SE is probably redundant given the locale of S.A.R.A. Green so am thinking Rogue's may be a better spot for it as mostly trouble stems from the North. I think he said he would house one and it means we can deploy two birds quickly as needed. Thoughts?

Agreed. There's a very good chance that Sn00ks, Sulky and me will be relocating to the hidden valley which will make Rogue's area the only Green Tower area bird.
OK in which case Rogue's for S.A.R.A. GREEN and mine remaining at S.A.R.A. SE would give us decent coverage.
Given your building works are you planning on building a bridge to the Hidden Valley? ;-)
We're not moving. Sorry for the false alarm.
The hidden valley is a very beautiful area and I would hope that no one builds there.
Would anyone object to it being made a nature reserve I wonder?
if not the a couple of markers on its outskirts would make it protected.

I wholely support this, and encourage it to be kept a natural piece of the island, we should take apart all beds there, I think one is still southern beards up on the cliff.
I did look for it yesterday with an aim to drink in its beauty but kinda couldn't find it..... someone please be so kind as to add it to the map?
or is it where the new SOS House Icon is NW?

Indeed. Remove the marker when you've found it please.

I did find and destroy one last night on the lip, but will check again. But I don't think the planned beaver preserve will work there.
