I have some very sad news to pass on to you all ...
QuoteHi Oldbloke,
My name is Rob. I believe you knew my father Bob Heath, known here as Lameduck.
I'm sorry to let you know that unfortunately my father passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning after struggling with Ill health for a number of years.
I write this not only to let you know about his passing, but also to extend my thanks to you and your fellow members here in the Dead Men community.
My Dad has always loved gaming and I know how much he valued being a part of this group. As his mobility decreased he relied on your community more and more and spoke very fondly of you and others who joined him playing Live for Speed and more recently Elite.
My brother and I both are gamers and i want to thank you and other members for all the pleasure you gave him in his final years, he loved this community as much as he used to love the Thursday night big races.
As someone not familiar with this group I would be eternally grateful if you could post this somewhere on the forum somewhere other members who knew my dad can see it.
Once again, thank you.
With warmest regards,
Rob, John, and our families
Today I will be doing my best to reflect on the many happy hours I spent in Bob's company both online and at the LAN. But in truth it's just so difficult to see past the sad loss of such a cheerful, friendly, funny man and highly regarded member of our community.
Rest in peace, Lameduck. I shall be raising a glass to you tonight, my friend.
Very, very sad news indeed . He was a lovely chap and a pleasure to have known him.
Lovely letter from his son..... very touching. I know you'll reply Oldie and please pass along our condolences.
Such a gent, and always willing to chat and help out and encouraging and inviting to anyone who want to try or needed help.
He will be missed greatly, please pass on my condolences to his Family and friends.
Sad news indeed. I remember spending many happy drunken hours on LFS with LameDuck. A friendly gent.
I just read this in the office and the eyes are wet. Very sad news indeed. I know was a lucky guy a few times in recent years to cheat this final event happening but when it does come....boy.
Bob was a real gentleman and someone whose company I enjoyed greatly, especially in Elite these last couple of years when he could get online. Condolences to his family and rest in peace Lameduck!
Lameduck, I enjoyed the humour in his name but never was a game tag actually less appropriate. An absolute gent and a perfect ambassador for what the dMw was all about.
This is very sad news.
I met Bob at several LANs and as others have said, he was a real gent.
so sad to hear, when i was out of the country for a few months with the libya thing, he messaged me out of the blue a couple of times just to say Hi and hoped that i wasn't in harms ways..such a nice chap. Met him twice at lans and was alwyas a pleaseure to talk too. raising a jd and coke for him tonight.
tears in my eyes :( thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in Piece Lameduck x
It's hard to know what to say really, other than that Bob was just the nicest bloke - he really will be very sorely missed here.
Really sad news . He was a gentleman with a great sense of humour and had me in stitches at the LANS during whisky tasting with some of his comments.
Really sad new indeed :( He will be missed, pass on our condolences Oldie and as have been mentioned earlier it was a lovely message from his son.
Very sad news  Rest in Peace Lameduck.
Heart sank when I read the thread title. I had many great years racing with Bob and many fond memories of the great evenings we had chatting a having a laugh with the racing group.
A kind a caring gentleman to whom my words can do no justice. I will miss him very much. My thoughts are with his family and Mrs Lame Duck, who we used to hear him speak of so fondly.
:(
I shall miss the banter we shared in the Elite ........
I will raise a suitable whiskey to Lameduck tonight!
RIP
that's sad.. really sorry to hear.
I had the honors of meeting him at one of the LANs also, although not being a racer myself we still had a good chat and I found him a nice guy. I actually dropped into to the racing TS-channels from time to time to have a chat because of that.
Sorry to hear, my condolences to his family and it would be nice to get his gamer sons in here for a chat for the guys who have played with him or if they want have a games they and we play.
Greetings, DuVeL...
Its very touching to see how much of an impact he had. Its just proves his legacy.
That was very sad news Oldie.
With tears in my eyes, all I can say is that I will miss him very very much.
So sad to read this. Can't add much more to what has been said, other than to confirm that I have tears in my eyes as I read the news of Bob's passing. The LANs are my best memories of Bob (especially those whisky tasting nights) because you got to sit face to face with the people with whom you have spent so many hours on TS. He was a gentleman, great company, selfless and his death is a great loss to the community, his family and friends.
Bob, you'll be missed. RIP mate, now you can race and game without interruption from us mortals. We'll be sure to raise a drink and toast you at the LAN in May - we know you'll be watching.
A top bloke who I sadly never got to meet face to face. We would run with very similar lap times in Live for Speed and when the Aliens had shot off into the distance we would find ourselves in a fantastic dogfights for many laps leaving leaving us both exhilarated and drained. Good times that I will never forget, Its been a privilege to race with you Sir
Another huge loss to the community. One of the nicest gentlemen on this forum. After I sparked an inkling of interest for Star Citizen he gave me his 2 ships and refused to take my money, not many people would do that. Shall be raising a glass tonight. RIP Bob
Sad news indeed
As many have said Bob was a true gentlemen. he went out of his way to make myself and CrazyR1 not only feel welcome but at home when we first joined the community. For me he embodied everything dMw stands for and im sure will be sorely missed.
My condolences to his family and all his friends on here.
Was a pleasure to know you mate
This is really sad news and hits home when such a great person passes on. I only had the pleasure of meeting him the once and was a really stand up nice bloke and will be missed.

very sad news, i'll miss our chats on ts about elite and our wing groups, he was a great man and a great gamer, sadly be missed by all members of the elite community and dmw,we will be raising our glasses to you.
I'm very sad to hear Bob has passed away. I'll always remember the live for speed races with you, Bob. Rest in peace!
Just found out, and I'm deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing. A top bloke, unfailingly cheery and friendly, even as his health was deteriorating. The DMR LFS racing community was enriched with his involvement.
My condolences to his family.
Oh my, I haven't really been around of late and this is the first time I have seen this :(
Bob was one of the first to welcome and talk to me on the LFS server when I first started racing here, such a friendly, helpful and fun guy. We had lots of races with him and he always such a good sportsman.
Rest in Peace pal and my thoughts to your family.
Hi Everyone,
I'm Bob's son Rob and just wanted to say your kind words have really move me and my family. It's so nice to know he was as well thought of here as he was to those who knew him outside of dMw. I hope you'll be pleased to know that at his funeral too many people attended for the ceremony so people had to stand outside. I meant what I said: He really loved Dead Men and I'd once again like to extend my thanks to you all!
Rob
Hi Rob
Thanks you taking the time to post here. It's very much appreciated.
So glad to hear that Bob got the send-off he deserved. We'll be raising a glass (well ... many actually) to both him and Andy at the coming LAN. Both top blokes who will be greatly missed within our close-knit community.
Great to hear he had a good send off, and to echo OB's comments, we'll be raising a glass or three to toast both Bob & Andy at the LAN. Thanks for the update Rob, it is much appreciated.

A kind hearted guy who unfortunately is no longer with us.
