http://www.scotlandinfo.eu/isle-of-arran/ - Can't go far wrong with Aaran and it's not too far North.

I'm from Edinburgh, it's the main tourist city but if I had one trip back to choose it's would be somewhere like Aaran.

This has been recommended to us and we are going to give them a go later this year, they will even pick you up!

PS keep an eye out for the next dmw field trip. Faust Chaos and I get restless at least a couple of times a year and end up going away so will keep you in the loop.

Will you be driving or taking trains (or a coach trip like Ghost suggested) one you're up there? The drive down loch ness from Inverness and then over to Skye is pretty picturesque, ...also lots of monster tat to buy. Stop off at Eilean Donan Castle on the way. Try to visit a distillery (with a designated driver or tour - remember their drink-drive limit is effectively zero) one day: Benromach near inverness, or Talisker on Skye maybe.
