Title: 6v6 Customs
Post by: Chaosphere on May 25, 2016, 11:15:53 AM
Last night we played a few rounds of 6v6. It worked well when the teams are balanced  (something that is very important!)

I'm keen to organise more of these as playing with / against you lot is more fun than matchmaking IMO.

I think we currently have 3 teamspeak channels. Overwatch, team 1, team 2. If when doing customs we can have team 1 and 2 in the respective channels, and any extras that can't fit in wait in the general channel (where you will probably be able to group up for some matchmaking until a slot becomes free in the custom).

I did consider in game comms but the group vs game chats can be confusing! Team speak can be nice and easy if we follow these steps.

Re: numbers I think a good idea is to organise a time to show up for the custom games, and if we have too many we will also run some matchmaking and swap out a few players after every game so that everyone gets a go.

So for example tonight why don't we say 20:00 for some custom games. I will be there. Anyone else?

Let me know if you have any thoughts on this and how best to run it :)

Great! I will be online and host the game, I'll add my battle tag to the other thread when I'm back from work so you can find me if I haven't added you already :)

Depending on numbers we could move to reserved slots and if late the slot frees up etc.. but let's see how it goes, first come first serve tonight- but we will rotate around and make room for all :)

Teams were a tad one sided for the first game, I'll try my best not to choose the Sniper tonight.

It's not a problem for you to choose the sniper Jewelz, it's just making sure that the overall teams are balanced so that everyone has fun, which in the first match they were not.   The second match was much better balanced and it we'll all get better as we get to know classes.

I'll be trying Lucio tonight for the first time, so I'll have another learning curve to go through!

Yah man play whoever you want to! Those second games were fantastic even though we lost, and the comms and teamwork trying to watch for you and shut you down was great fun.

Count me in! I main (meaning i know what button does what) most of characters so I dont mind what class I play. How about we set up an announcement for an event on steam for 20:00. Similar way we have with CSGO.

I really enjoyed last nights games (after some team tweaking) and I would be more then happy to do it again! downside is I work evenings the next 4 days :P but I'll be on and play as much as possible!

Don't worry man we will undoubtedly organise more :)

And re steam announcements, that is a great idea and I think something we could do if we arrange 'official' nights in the future.. until then I think we will have enough general interest to just organise nights on here :)

GG's indeed. I'd like us all to stay in one channel on TS for the 'banter' and use in game comms for tacs.

The problem with all being in one channel is the noise and cross chat which often drowns in-game tactics chat, so I'd be against that. It would simply mean leaving one or the other if that happened which defeats the purpose.

CSGO gets away with it just because not all are in ts and the larger team size limits cross chat.

I feel we lose some of the enjoyment by not getting the XP and drops. I wonder if we created two 6 man groups and started a quick play the 2 teams would eventually meet?

dMw v the World seemed popular in CSGO, so why not in Overwatch.   We can always do both.

I agree about xp. It's great fun to play against other unlucky dmw souls but its a shame we dont get xp and unlock cool stuff.

I am also not sure about one TS channel, agree with Tealeaf, while it sounds fun to be all together and hear others raging but there is som much going on that the team communication would suffer.

is possible but very unlikely, if this did happen then it would be amazing and we would get a lot of exp for having fun. we will have to try it out tho and see what will happen one night.

i agree with tealeaf normally in CS:GO there is about 6 people in ts so it ain't that many you put 12 in one then you ain't going to be able to hear to much, with everyone talking and even raging you wont be able to hear your team and work together well.

Its a shame we dont get exp but like everyone says it a lot more fun killing your friends then random people ...... did that come out right ? if we got exp from doing custom matches then we would be high levels in one night and not many people would play public matches because with enough friends you could just do a custom with bots

XP is custom matches will never happen because people just abuse it. Same reason why we don't get XP for playing on Boomer in CS:GO

Re voice comms

We have tried all in 1 channel with similar games and tbh it just causes problems. You are right its a shame to lose the banter though. We could certainly have a trial game where we use in game comms for teams, just to see how it goes.

As for dmw v dmw or dmw v world, absolutely we will end up doing both! I wanted to set up a private custom first as I think it gives us a bit of a better set up to just test characters and explore the game as we can adjust match balance as necessary so no one is getting repeatedly hammered.

I will be back on tonight from 20:00 and running either another private custom or some matchmaking depending on numbers :)

Edit - actually tonight if we have 12 let's try going into matchmaking in 2 groups to see if it matches us up as Albert suggested!

Update - voice comms are somewhat borked in custom games. Some rounds it works flawlessly, others it doesn't work for anyone. Seems from a quick interweb search that these are known bugs.

So I think for now we need to stick for TS channels for dmw V dmw customs.

However when playing in matchmaking we can have one big happy TS chat, as the voice comms DO work in matchmaking (so you can talk to team only in-game, and general chatter in TS).

People need to set different keys for TS and in-game push to talk though ;)
