Help a guy out... been pulling what little hair i have left out over monitors.
New graphics card = new monitor
But what to buy....
Im looking at 2k gaming as 4k gaming is still a push using a single gpu even with latest gtx 1080.
Monitors im looking at are 27"+
Examples of which are

Although if funds allowed id just buy
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01DOIFV12/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile
And then question id like clarified ... does gsync really matter? As its adding £150-200 onto some of these monitors. (I have read what it does just lookibg for ppls opinions) and also on any monitors theyve seen/recommend

the ultra-wide monitors I saw at the last lan were very tasty. I heard talk of a cheaper (all things being relative) option - think it was more like half the price of the ultra-wide Acer you linked but I can't remember for sure! :flirty:
http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?41014-G-Sync-vs-Freesync&highlight=G-Sync
This is a previous topic about G-Sync with comments from guys who own Swift screens.
Some QC issues have dogged the latest Swift models, and corner bleed was the main source of negative reviews. Not something you really want for 600 quid of monitor.
Cheers albert ðŸ' still undecided on monitor ...🙈

No problem, I've never seen or experienced G-Sync of FreeSync so I'd wait for real world feedback but my impression is that G-Sync is giving you performance at a far higher refresh rate through hardware in the monitor and the 4K versions right now are rather expensive. The older models like Asus PG278Q seem to the raved about but the newer model I looked into had bleed all over the place.
I'd like to get one 4K monitor to replace a 27" 1440P Asus (non-G-Sync) but I'm not finding anything that impresses me yet review wise. Maybe LG, BenQ or Samsung FreeSync is the way forward?

Likewise. 2 years on and I've had no problems with it at all.
G-Sync is lovely, produces a very smooth picture - though you do need to keep the frame rates reasonably high to get the best out of it.
I think you were looking at a 4K option for use with your GTX 1080 Milli. This Acer Predator XB271HK seems to be getting better image quality reviews than the ASUS 27" 4K PG27AQ. I think so far its the best 4K option I can find with G-Sync and 27"<=. It was the one you listed on the first post. The review below has a lot of good things to say about it but it. Same price as the ASUS though.

I'm after a new monitor guys, need some help. looking at the posts above, it seems the PG279Q ROG Swift 27" is a good shout, however for some reason i am leaning towards one of these super widescreen things! which look awesome!! i saw DZ's, Whiteys and Tuna's at the LAN and was quite impressed. I have searched for each one and the price difference seems to differ quite substantially so was wondering if you guys could give me some pro's and cons?

Gibbo has one of these, I have the freesync model. Very good screen, size doesn't always matter ;)
What was your monitor Whitey?
Mine is a "LG Flatron 34UC97-S 34" WideScreen Super-Wide Curved LEDMonitor". I've had it coming up to 2 years so there are better options available now but I still love it and would only replace with another Super-Wide curved.

nope they only support gsync
Whitey your monitor looked gorgeous at the lan. When I next have disposable income (I'm saving so this will be a while) I'll upgrade along a large curved monitor route for sure.

Seemed there were so many good reviews for this monitor, and it ticked the 4K and G-Sync box. I found it locally in NL for â,¬739.

That's a good price. I had the 1440P version of this and it is awesome.
u think i should get that or spend a bit more on a 35" curved?
I think that depends on what you want from a monitor upgrade mate...
Do you want a curved screen? 4k? 140+hz refresh? GSync / whatever the AMD equivalent is?
Answer these questions first, then find the monitors that tick all of the right boxes. Don't just buy one because it has cash off, or you will regret it when you realise it doesn't have that one thing you wanted. Monitors are purchases that last years, and should be a high priority and properly researched IMO, not just bought on a whim.
Might be going for this Acer Predator XB321HK 32 inch 4K2K IPS Gaming LED Monitor with G-Sync, HDMI, Display Port and Height Adjustable https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B017U8Z61W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cXswyb5PNAP2H

I'm looking to get a monitor as i'm currently using my 32'' tv and it's horrible :) - I don't want a big monitor as I don't like it makes me feel a bit sick, theirs lots on offer at the moment via hotukdeals but i'm lost as to whats good and whats not any recommendations welcomed!
I had to buy a new monitor recently on a budget (mine blew up and needed replacing the same day) After a bit of research off < £200 monitors I went for this
http://www.samsung.com/uk/monitors/curved-cf390/LC27F390FHUXEN/

It's an unremarkable but perfectly decent curved monitor. Does everything fine, isn't too taxing on the GPU as its only 1920 x 1080. It's under 200 quid which is bonus and the main reason I bought it.
You can get the 144hz, 24", 1080p Acer GN246HLB for £180 on Amazon.
I would get a 144hz screen if I were you. Many here will rave about 144hz being far superior to the standard 60. I wouldn't suggest a standard 60hz screen to anyone who enjoys a bit of FPS now tbh, especially with some 144 models being so affordable.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Noticed a few of the negative comments saying the monitor is advertised as LED but it in fact LCD. Confirmed by looking at the spec. Not sure if that's important to you. Only tech issue is red pixels occasionally being noticed on delivery and they will only accept a return if there are 3 dead pixels.

You can always return it under DSR regs regardless of the pixels. Just way it's not right for you as opposed to the fact it has dead pixels and you're entitled to return it FOC within 14 days.

Cancelled mine - impulse buying! I literally just got a 144 Hz 1080p screen a few weeks ago. As much as I would love to go back to 1440p for desktop stuff, my current GPU (980) wouldn't keep up with that many pixels at that many frames... and I really don't want to buy a new GPU any time soon!
So, I will stick with the 1080p 144 Hz for now, I am pretty happy with this monitor (was only £100 to boot), and will look to upgrade when there is a 1440p 144Hz HDR screen out there...
GL mate, hope it works out!
Back up to £650 now. Shame would've nabbed one :-(
The seller that had it on for £350 isn't listed on there so I'm guessing they either sold out or retracted the item :D I don't expect to get this one, I'm starting to think it was a mistake.
"This Marketplace account has be HACKED. was over 6000 items listed at 21:00 hours now at 23:45 its down to 74 inactive items. No one will ever receive anything..."
Aye, seems the account was hacked so I'm going to cancel as well.
We did wonder if there was something dodgy going on at such a price. Sorry mate!
Ordered a PG279Q from Amazon at full price. Couldn't wait any longer.
:D Worth every penny, no one should be gaming at 60Hz in 2018! :yahoo: :roflmao:
Thanks chaos just pm your cc details cheers

To be fair, you can get a 1080p 120Hz panel for around £100-120 if you shop around. That's not half bad! The tech is well worth the price of entry. It is absolutely a 'once you have tried it you can't go back' situation.

My RX480 can't handle 1440, so looks like I'm stuck at 1080 for now. The question is - is 27" @ approx 2ft away going to be too pixelated? Only because jumping from my current 21" to 24" isn't that big a jump, though it may go for curved @24" to try and get the feeling of it being bigger...
Not sure I'd go for anything above 24" at 1080p. At 2ft I think you're fairly likely to notice the pixels, but I'm not speaking from personal experience, rather a quick read around online re: viewing distances - for example, for a 24" 1080p display to qualify as 'retina' as per apple standards, you'd have to sit 3.5" away.
Personally I would suggest you either get a 27" 1440p panel with a plan to upgrade the GPU later (second hand GPUs can be had for good prices these days), or, wait until you've upgraded the GPU first before changing monitor. If you get the 1440p panel you can of course turn settings (including resolution) down as needed in the interim, but of course that does come with a visual fiedlity hit (particularly when lowering resolution).

I used to game on 1440p with a GTX770. Your RX480 should be at a minium 50% faster than my gaming experience!
What games are you playing, what FPS are you getting?

Arma3, getting approx 60-70fps with everything on highest graphics settings.
Pretty sure Arma has a supersampling option, so if you've cranked that up you may already be playing at 1440p anyway! :roflmao:
Arma used to be very CPU-bound, so could be your CPU will hold you back before your GPU does. Just depends on your system.
But surely, just turn down some settings and you'll be good to go, at least until you upgrade the rest of the PC. Arma looks alright on medium settings, from what I remember. :)

This any good then? Or is there anything better for similar money?
It ticks a lot of boxes. 27", 1440p, 144Hz. Pretty much the sweet spot in terms of size / resolution / performance.
However, it sports a TN panel. TNs struggle with colour and contrast. Compared to IPS / VA panels, they can look washed out and 'flat', and viewing angles are always poor (to the point where the top and bottom of the screen can look different to the middle even at normal viewing distances). Because of these reasons I find it impossible to recommend TN panels when spending more than £100-150. They're fine if you're desperate for a 144Hz panel (which you should be, 60Hz needs to go the way of the dodo) and using a cheap (<£150) panel as a stepping stone to something better, but I really wouldn't invest in one as a long term / more expensive option.
Prices of IPS / VA panels have started to fall recently, and I'd strongly suggest looking at one of these panels instead. There are some downsides to the cheaper IPS / VA panels (response time, smearing, 'IPS glow'), but on balance I personally find these acceptable trade-offs for the improved colour and contrast. To put it bluntly, games pop and look pretty on IPS / VA, and often comparatively dull on TNs.
So, if you have to spend <£300 I'd look for one of the VA panels like this - https://www.ebuyer.com/861764-samsung-27-cjg50-curved-high-resolution-gaming-monitor-lc27jg50qquxen
If you're able to spend a bit more you could go for a 'better' VA panel like this - https://www.ebuyer.com/830487-optix-mpg27cq-27-qhd-curved-monitor-9s6-3fa31t-017 - or an IPS like this - https://www.ebuyer.com/708721-asus-mg279q-27-ips-freesync-gaming-monitor-mg279q.
Only if competitive gaming is your sole focus should you look to TN, as the response times of TN panels can't be beat. If you aren't a CS:GO nutter demanding lightning responsiveness, the advice above applies :) !
Just want to second what Chaos says about VA vs TN, dude I'm SO GLAD I went VA for my 1440p 144hz panel, the viewing angle is perfect and everything looks beautiful.

Now that both VA and IPS breach 144Hz at 1440p, there is no reason to go TN other than cost.
Both VA and IPS have pro and con .... from my recent experience it comes down to personal preference and I'm firmly in the IPS + Bias lighting camp ..... although you can argue any panel should use bias lighting just to reduce eye strain.

Which is better? 3 monitors or one big one? I have 2 monitors at work and it's awesome, but not sure how good it feels when gaming? Obviously need 3 as otherwise the centre of the screen would be across the bezels of 2 monitors í ½í¸,.
IMHO for general gaming one big curved monitor would be best. For everything else then multi monitors works very well. I don't think I could get anything done workwise without a multi set up.
I imagine some games might do better with several monitors, such as flight sims, but I don't play them so defer to other wiser opinions
Personally couldn't be happier with 27" curved bro I got this and it's VA which I never expected to be so amazing.
