Not enough time for me, Ark fills my survival game quota for now.
I'm thinking this may be a more low maintenance survival game, with full co-op mode. I had been looking at it a few days earlier and though, I'll get that if it goes on sale. Low and behold, it drops to 50% a few days later. Probably riding on the back of the NMS over hype. I started looking at the game after seeing a review of NMS that said spend your money on this and have more fun and teamplay.
This game is still an estimated 2 years from completion but ticks a lot of boxes for me. It has a random seed for the initial solar system, has high tech bad guys to attack, raid and assume command of their buildings or just take them as scrap, AI is a little basic right now. Getting to a level where you can leave the planet and go build in space sounds fun.
The game has a blueprint system and steam workshop integration for simple resource and tech tree required builds. So you can load up a design from the workshop or design your own and share it.
Dedicated server is currently Windows only and requires the game code, but not sure if you can just copy out the directory and run it away from Steam, will have to play. You can't currently start a server from within the game.
The forums say you can keep adding new planets into the solar system and so keep it fresh if new planet types appear.
Having said all that, I'm still only at a level where I'm sat on the bare ground with a supplied motorbike, emergency constructor and emergency oxygen generator. But only had it running for a few game days.

Okay, played a few hours now and enjoying it.
Managed to build a very open base (wooden platform), with most of the tools required to make guns, ammo and an automated defence turret. As soon as your base goes on-line it becomes a target for the Epsilons, they start sending over some mini-gun drones to say hello. The defence turret takes some fire and needs repairing after each attack, but you can salvage a lot of good stuff off the drones which help you build more kit. You get an alert that drones are on their way before they get there, so you have time to return home if needed.
Still only on the motorbike (which needs serious physics work), I've come under fire from a few outposts and found some of the wreckage of what I assume is the ship you were on prior to the escape pod which you start the game in. This is also a good source of materials and once you build a muti-tool you can disassemble it into component parts for your own use.
Whilst there I took out a couple of drones, then got a message that a troop ship was coming. It landed next to the wreck and dropped a few aliens and their sniffer..... err... dogs? Killing and looting the soldiers gets you some good booty as well.
Whilst riding around you get notified of anything within 500m of your location and it gets marked on the map, these include alien bases, wrecks and more importantly ore deposits. These are pretty easy to mine and are pretty large. I've drilled a huge cobalt mine and still there is 90% of the resources left.
Just off to see if there are any blueprints for a decent hover ship to have a mobile base whilst mining, hunting and salvaging, then do the same for a small ship once I have enough resources.
I've died a few times, it gives you the option to re-spawn at base (if you have a cloning chamber, which I don't yet) or close to last location, so you can attempt to get your gear back, which drops in a case like ARK.

OK. Played a few hours last night. Definitely enjoying it. It doesn't pull its punches in terms of difficulty. Ark's interface and construction system tends to hold your hand a fair bit. This one does not. I can see why that could be off putting for some.
All in all though, I'm really having a lot of fun. It doesn't take that long to collect resources, which is a bonus. Just have to build up now so we can build our DeathStar.
It has a crafting learning curve not because you have to learn the recipes but because interface is not quite intuitive.
I found that once you make the Fabricator the best thing to do is search the Templates/ blueprints for the one you need to work on. Note the recipe parts needed then drag them all from your player inventory into the Fabricator inventory.
I is lacking a way for the loaded recipe to see what your player is holding and auto use the parts in the build. Might be a good thing to avoid using resources you don't intend to.
I agree with Galatoni, it's not as much of a grind for parts link Ark can be (stone, wood, flint, etc.)
Dark is really dark, as in no torch, no see a darn thing. The assault rifle saved my life, it has a tac light.
Things are dark, but there is a way to shed some light on it. Worklights are very easy to produce and take hardly any resources. There is also the worklight 2 which does very much the same thing - only better.
The server settings are a bit light on the ground, which is a shame. The red symbol (if you didn't know) is the anti grief system. Assuming we set up a faction, we could build a single base which could cater for all our needs near the starting location and spread out from there to build our own houses/bases etc.
Once the initial base is set up, people seem to use this as a redeploy station for an orbital platform. Its there that they set up the capital ship they're building further down the line.
http://empyrion.gamepedia.com/ makes for some good reading. Apparently we can easily create faction controlled buildings/structures. But it is the owning player that must do it.
Yeah, need to work out why my turret was targeting friendlies. Had a drone attack last night and so I stuck some bullets into my defence cannon and it made short work of them.
Once you have a large constructor built it all gets easier, the emergency constructor is a manual process, whereas when you have the large constructor running it will automatically start making the component parts to whatever you told it to make.
A few of you started your buildings using a blueprint, unfortunately some of the components for that are not achievable without the large constructor and food processor station. If you bring the resources over, I can build you those crop plots.
Ha. Indeedy. I assumed they were part of the game (so-to-speak). Turns our they're from the Steam Workshop. Still, this is all good practice for when the server resets. Seems like a good community game, here.

Lib and I destroyed and deconstucted a MK 1 Epsilon base. Revenge is sweet.
After a little bit of mining out in the asteroids Sith was blown out of the sky whilst on his return home. I Popped over to see if we could find his ship and discovered it still hovering between a rock and a hard place.
Went to Siths and he bolted a pillion seat to my ship and we went over, took a few rocket hits so dived behind a ridge. We managed to sneak around the fire to a crater and his backpack, the former being what was left of his ship.
Sith ordered up a replacement and half an hour later he was bolting rocket launchers to his new SV. Then he went all Rambo on the Epsilon centre and I just turned up to see the aftermath and collect some seeds.
Is this still on the test server ... So to speak or is this the main server now that we will be using ?

For me when I lost the ability to breath due to laughing was when he managed to get this thing in the air. Then to fly straight rotated so the nose was had the booster and shot off in to the distance backwards. Amazing giggling now about it.

I'm a fan of Empyrion, with quite a few hours of solo play. I thought it would be cool to try my luck on-line joining other explorers, who had the misfortune to crash on the same planet. Looking at various servers I found yours. It seems that you started just couple days ago. I'm a relaxed player, interested in exploration and building. I do not like fighting with other players, but can join a PvE raid if needed. I play every day or two.
So, can I join? If that is so, what's the password?

Our hosted server literally went up this evening. We're running this server for the community to explore the teamwork elements of Empyrion to eventually decide on whether or not to make it one of our officially supported games. If you've read any of the posts here detailing our ethos then you'd be aware that we value teamwork much, much more than solo play.
So far ... all looks good.
I'll be adding the server details to the post Pen linked to sometime tomorrow. The server can be found in the server browser as Dead Men Walking (no idea who Pen asked about this but they gave him bum info :D ).

brilliant oldie thanks for getting this server up and going. It was great fun on Toby's server I know that it was a lot more fun with people, like when sith went to see the green friendly trader space station and found out that they were so friendly they were giving away free rockets .... This server is running as a test - use it or lose it.
If it proves to be consistently busy then a decision will be made on the game's official adoption i.e. appointing a GL and an admin team to promote the game and to ensure it's run inline with our ethos. I would remind all players that, adopted or not, you should always play in accordance with our values.
Both Toby and Lib have been given admin powers within the game should an intervention be necessary.
The game's settings have been intentionally set to a ridiculously hard level so do not expect an easy ride. The idea is to force players to work together to achieve a common goal. You have been warned :devil:
I made a grave mistake of starting on Omicron, rather than Akua. Omicron is more fun in general, because there's no breathable atmosphere and oxygen survival is a new dimension. But it's not a fun anymore if everyone is on Akua and I'm the only one on Omicron. With the difficulty level there's really hard uphill battle to do even basics, much less a hope for building a base or a small ship to get off that hell hole.
So if you join this game for the first time MAKE SURE YOU START ON AKUA.

Totally confused by this game!
Managed to cock up my first attempt by ejecting from the pod before it landed. Shortly after lost my bike blueprints :)
Then after 2 more attempts to follow the tutorial, I have less and less materials to start with, so no base building etc. How am I supposed to survive with a chainsaw and no equipment? Am I missing something obvious here?
I think everyone is first time out. The contents of your pod and the backpack you drop when you die are critical. You have to go back and get the backpack each time it's dropped otherwise you lose gear that is difficult to replace in the beginning.
Suggest your character is wiped and you restart the game when on TS with others so you can meet up.
F1 - Tutorial is also very useful, it has good descriptions of all activities and a way to bypass tutorial steps if you have already completed them.

There are many guides available online, but none of them are really useful when it comes to the first hour. Unusually for most games, the first hour is totally critical for ensuring that the character you've generated will actually be playable (on solo) or not. Few pointers for first time players:
* Regardless of what happens, only control your escape pod directionally, until it hits the ground. If you leave the escape pod during the descent, there is a good chance all your starting gear will be lost (why they don't just put it in your inventory is beyond me). If you do lose your starting gear, there is little chance you will have a solo-playable character. There have also been instances where flying into the green fields has had the same effect.
* When picking a planet to start on don't pick Omicron. Its really hard to start with, when you're just starting out, the game is hard enough.
* Once you've landed, you must take all the equipment out of the escape pod before leaving it.
* The tutorials should be able to guide you most of the way.
* Since combat is almost certainly going to find you 3 seconds after you've landed its important to note that not everything appears on your map. Only drones do.
* The only part of the terrain that is bullet proof is the ground itself and other drones that you've downed. Use this to your advantage.
* Not everything moving will try and kill you, however. As a rule of thumb, if its moving towards you and is following you around, you look tasty.
* Save your ammo! Its easy enough to make, but early on its precious.
* There are many edible plants around, check them in your inventory when you hover over them once you've collected them. If you get some stats and it doesn't mention that the item is 'intermediary', winner-winner, chicken dinner. Do check the stats though.
* There is a small chance that any plant you pick up and eat could give you food poisoning. I don't like this either, I think it ruins it.
* There is a bike kit in your inventory. It has to be constructed before it can be used. Once deployed, some items can be recollected, the bike is amongst them. The popup will tell you if it can be.
Its actually a very steep initial learning curve, but it gets much easier after the first hour or so. Its a very enjoyable game with much to explore, we're only scratching the surface here.
I feel you Mugi.
It has got a very steep learning curve, exacerbated somewhat by an interface which isn't the most intuitive. However when compared to other games it is a lot less grindey for resources. When you get them they do go a long way.
Food is a perennial problem and I find I'm also struggling to get that sorted. Certainly join Akura as that's where most of us are and there are others on hand to help and to explore with.

Adding to Galatoni's fine list of advice.
Once you find a safe place to stop and think(!) lol
* TAB opens your inventory. In there is a small constructor which needs to be placed in a quick slot and equipped and put in place on the ground to use. Once deployed F enters the crafting page. shift-f picks the constructor up again, it's a portable device.
* Once in the crafting view, place ingredients into the middle window. The things you can make are on the right, each tab has a different category (if you accidentally filter this area then some items may not show up, clear the filter).
* Drag the thing you want to make into the Q e.g. Motor Bike Construction kit goes into the ingredient window then the motor bike blueprint into the Q. Provided all the necessary parts are in the middle window the final product will start building automatically once you......
*Switch the constructor to ON! (top right).
Other stuff:
* Come on TS before you join the server and ask if it's night or day where the clan has made camp. It's going to be easier to meet up if there is half a chance it's daytime.
* When you are hurtling to the ground on first login and land you take everything from your inventory (with the take all arrow left button), look around for a mine. If one is nearby, leg it. You can equip your drill and dig down into it to survive. From there you can compose yourself, see what's in the inventory and make your bike and some basic survival stuff. If it's a magnesium mine then your quids in, you can make bullets.
* If you die, re-spawn nearby and there will be a waypoint under 100m from you where you backpack is lying. Scout for the creature that killed you and if it's still around, lure it off into the distance and circle back and get your backpack. (You move fast but stamina will run out over time!)
* U takes off your helmet. You don't need it on the starting planet, if you do use it you will use up O2 in the system which you might need later for diving.
* J switches on your jet pack, space makes you fly (rather than just jump/ hop), you can sprint and fly in bursts to move fast away from enemies. Do this in equal measures and you shouldn't run out of stamina or jet power.
* Don't drive your bike into water, you will be thrown off (maybe not if you are wearing a helmet) and the bike will continue onwards. You'll have to dive for it and shift-f to pick it up.
* There are large white plants that look like eggs or pods of some sort. Them is good! They give you health and food but also are a poison antidote.
In addition to the excellent advice already meted out ...
Please build a base a minimum of 100m from your nearest neighbour. This is close enough to get help quickly but far enough not to fall victim of the protected area around everyone's base.
Ah I think I see where I may have gone wrong. Each time I've died I've restarted and crashed my little pod to the ground without collecting my old goods.
With regards to help, I try and shy away from other player bases. Not only do I not know what will happen, but I don't want to tread on toes. If someone is set up and then suddenly I appear and start taking resources, I'd feel a bit douchey.

It's actually not that difficult to start somewhere less congested with other people if you can get past the first few days and builds. And you can always get nearly 100% of your gear back each time you die anyway, just don't log off without first recovering your pack.
Mugi this is a team based survival game we are supost to survive together, there is a big lake where most people are putting there bases around. I am currently on my own on the other side of be planet and am more then happy for people to join me over there, right now I have most the resources because it's just me who lives in the area. Don't feel like your stepping on people's toes aslong as your base is about 100m minimum from another players base you should be fine to move and make a base where ever you want. Normally if we are on ts feel free to join, or use in game Chat to ask for help I am more then sure that anyone would be happy to help you.
The start of this game is the hardest part of the game so far once your set up its a bit more easier unless you go looking for a harder time. A word of warning is avoid all buildings unless your know there friendly or empty, avoid any building on the map called drone bases or skyports. When your in our faction you will be able to see all other faction players who are online on the map Aswell as people's bases. You can see the lake where everyone is set up so if you want to join them you can just stay away from the island in the middle of the lake because that is going to be a community project.
The idea of this game is survival and it's not to hard to do this when you know how. Some people will moan about this game saying its to hard but it's like anything else once you learn it then it's easy to survive. One point I have seen and heard is poisoning, if you went to a random plant and started to eat it plants ... Your probably going to get sick. If I go off to Africa and walk around eating plants I will proberly get sick but you learn what you can eat and how to heal yourself, after all is it a survival game. Sick to it and you will get the hang of this game soon, if oldie has time he might be able to reset you but always go back for your bag and the items in your drop pod you need them else you will find yourself having a very very hard time setting up

So can someone with more knowledge explain to me how I keep my fresh items from spoiling overnight?
I stocked my generator up with all slots full of Promethium Power Cells and left it powered on when I logged off.
All cells were spent when I logged on just now and all my hard earned food and other fresh things spoiled.
I'm 100% certain I was running the generator when I logged off as we spoke about this earlier (Lib).

Just a thought after last night where we tried to do some stuff in the game and couldn't find anything new to work on.
The incredible flaw in this game is once certain things have been completed, new players can't redo them.
Are there any missions or activities we can do that haven't already been completed by the more experienced players of the game?
This is a problem that me and lib have spoke about a lot. Sadly once a base/ mission is done that's it for the game there no coming back of the enemy. A good amount of mission have already been done on the first world, there are a few near my base and duvels now ( I am no longer lonly :D ) so come over and do one of them but not all of them just do one on the home planet so you know what to expect when you go to other planets and find stronger bases and enemy's. The space port above me has be complete but the drone base beneath me has had all its turrets destroyed because it started on me :) any other one near my base should be active unless people have been over already and done everything
I've ended up in a position where i've been left with less than nothing after returning from a long trip (and Jewelsy losing my stuff :P ) I'm actually finding there are number of things I would have perhaps have done differently. I quite enjoy the exploration element, but there seemed to been a rush to get off world. Part of this I can understand, its a new game, you'd like to see what it has to offer. I'm wondering if it might be have been better to temper this slightly and built a community Capital ship of some kind. Heck, I'm just trying to have a go with the hover stuff before I start on a ship.
To be honest, i'm not even sure that would've helped.
I think it might be worth while approaching this with a new difficulty level, or at least discussing possible options or self-imposed limitations.

Yeah this is another thing I have spoke to lib about a lot, when this server was made the idea was making a big community capital ship that we would all work on but the way that people play games some have already done most things and have made there own ship leaving the planet and .... Well getting there ass kicked on another planet. I am still on the starter planet and have no plans of leaving yet, maybe to see the moon but that's all.
Hopefully we might be able To get a plan together to sort out a capital ship in this game that we can all work on. I would love to make a capital ship that can hold a few of our smaller vessels so when we come to a new planet we leave the ship in orbit and take down out smaller ones. Maybe even a drop ship ?

I think we consider this on balance with the game being taken on (if at all) it might be worth laying down some ground rules regarding constructions. I'm not sure if existing planets can be removed and new ones respawned with the consoles? Might be just a case of then saying to people that anything built on planets other than the starter world are subject to destruction.

Currently from what I know no one has built anything in any other planet yet, apart from the starter planet the only other thing people might be building/living on is that beautiful space station that sith and you took over. A lot of people have only just started to build there small vessels, I know lib helped most people to make them small cute vessels that work so most people should be upgrading them ready for combat and ability to get to the moon.
The trouble is we don't need bases on Akua. I basically live in orbit now and only pop down to say hello and get oxygen from my generator. All other resources and others, can be mined on other planets. My Capital Ship is my base all be it, a few blocks of iron and the essentials.
I still think that dominating an AI base and putting it up for new ownership can save people with limited play time exactly that, time, I'm quite proud to have been able to offer sneaky the structure I took over, nothing of value was in place, not cheatlevel resources, just a nice sized chunky strong base. Same goes for the Space Station, while I'd love to build something like that with the community, and still would, having the core shape available without having to start from literal block one is such a bonus, because building takes a ridiculous amount of time.

Everything we've stolen from the AI has come at great cost, Jewelz can testify to that I think Lib and Galatoni too, the high stress combat shinanigans is a lot of fun, and the rewards are well earned...
Personally I would build my own cap ship anyway, because I simply don't want to be limited to planet exploring only when X member is online and agreeable, since the ownership and the time spent on the build makes it a massive risk using it. Jewelz's cap ship came back in chunks from our trip to the dangerzone (now I'm singing that) and really, lucky it came back at all. I literally never want to have that conversation with the group if I managed to get the cap ship ten people helped build blown to pieces... BrotherTobious knows how I fly! :woot2:
Aye, its a tall order to ask people not to build stuff - kind of defeats the point. But I think where they build might be an option. I've no idea to be honest.
Seeing what we accomplished in an evening with the Cap ship I'm more confident than ever that the AI stuff that we change ownership of isn't nearly as cool as stuff we've made ourselves...

To get these ores we would need to go off world and I don't mean just to the moon but a whole other deadly planet. It would be a good trip to go on tho but we will need a capital ship to be Able to get us to these planets. If someone is happy for us to use it then it would be a good trip and people can see what the other worlds are like and what's on them.
There is a way to regenerate Alien POI's, But I need to experiment first.

Not sure how it works with a capital vessel and if we all need seats. If not then I guess the more the merrier. If so then it may pose a problem. However without any ships it's going to be a challenge to get you guys to the planet.

Just drop a passenger seat on every small vessel. The if/ when we get attacked the passenger gets knocked off first !

We started building a behemoth Capital Ship yesterday at the SS. It probably won't look amazing as it's not really following any plans, more winging it. It actually feels like a big car park but does look better than I imagined it would, PEN, Sulky and OB ideas.
I would love to have it kitted out with guns and passenger seats so 10 players can dock and man weapons around the hull.
So far we have all the basic parts of the ship in place, 4 XL Thrusters. (No directional yet). Top and bottom decks for docking, growing etc. Basic bridge area.
I was thinking maybe we could mount a hangar door up over the main front cockpit and when in battle raise the blast shield :D
Long way to go and a lot of steel and hardened steel plates to make. Also some standard parts were used out of the SS Advanced Constructor and some Advanced CPU parts. I have enough resources to replenish this stock.
I have the remaining parts for the ship in my character inventory. Anyone should feel free to contribute to building this, it's a clan ship. Just drop any recovered materials in one of the cargo boxes and hit Y before leaving the area, unless you want to grow food or use the fridge of course. If you leave these monster thrusters on the fuel will go pretty quickly.
Just a thought when we were leaving last night. Where are you wanting the warp core. It might fit near the fuel tanks area, or in the hanger deck. Ad for the shutter idea...that sounds cool

I was thinking of placing the Warp core in the center not far from the fuel tanks. We still need to armor around the central area as it hold all our main assets so I was thinking to keep the warp core and main core as high up as possible so we are never leaving them vulnerable from below where most of the fire comes from.
Don't forget the "small thermal exhaust port" that leads straight to main reactor.

Have you applied points using f3, I think that unlocks stuff in the constructor

we had it disabled because it was way to easy to build ships with it. The ideas of it is amazing and i would love to be able to have it on but on the first server we found it way to easy to build ships both small vessels and capital ship. We also found that using that it would also allow for people to build above there leave. To build a ship using blueprints all you need is the ores/metals and that was it you put all what you needed inot the factory and the after a varied amount of time from 30m- 5 hours+ and then boom new easy ship that you didn't really build only collected some ores for. So in turn they decided to turn it off due to the game being way to easy to play if they had that on.

We learned from the first ARK server that setting things too easy can quickly lose the interest of the players, on this one we set everything up to be a long and enjoyable experience.
We spent a week playing on a private server Toby set up and within a day we had people ordering hover vehicles and small ships, after two days we had people ordering up a capitol ships whilst still living on an open top wooden platform and not having even unlocked the tech that was required to make it.
So we decided that the factory system was a game exploit and would lead to people just going around collecting resources and "buying" a ship from the store.
Having it enabled would mean people could just go mining for ore, convert it to ingots in their survival constructor, order up a base or any of the ships and go fly around without ever having to have done any of the main points of the game.
Bases would just be ordered and dropped onto a planet as a disposable item and be fully defensible out of the wrapper. Ships would become throwaway items and you'd have people downloading every interesting blueprint they could find, mining the resources and ordering the ship. If it gets blown up, who cares, spend half an hour mining and just order another. You'd have ships just everywhere.
None of this is what you would class as a survival game, which is what this is supposed to start off as.
With the system disabled people have to get together and help design their own ships, which they will tend to be more careful with and strip down to redesign it as they decide on improvements that you think are required, rather than one some university engineering student has knocked up for anyone to buy.
It doesn't take much gameplay to get to a point where you can build your first ship. From there the rest of the game starts to open up and changes focus.
With the server ramped up to 11 it also means that once you unlock all the tech and have a capitol vessel you are still not finished by any stretch, last night our most advanced CV went off to test out its new bristling guns. It did not look too good when it returned home, after an emergency construction of a new warp core, huge holes in its hardened steel hull and the destruction of the magazine left them defenceless.
Lesson brutally learnt and new design ideas already under way.

Some facts about that trip:
- Strafing didn't help, once a volley of shots hit it kept hitting and bore a hole through the front right to the back where the warp drive was blowing it up.
- The ammo box was destroyed on first hit, leaving all those beautiful guns completely inert.
- The cockpit took enough damage to read 16/50 hp. If it'd been blown up, not only would be sitting ducks, we'd have been stranded, in another planets space, far far away from Akua.
- This is only lvl 2 difficulty, it's Omnicron's space, the other STARTING planet my dudes.
Very narrowly escaped.
Very excited about the new build which starts construction immediatly :D

In terms of Blueprints, can we BP our own creations so we can get them back if they are destroyed and work to improve them. Perhaps share them with others on the server once they are at a level to make them?

Hardened Steel plate on every outside panel and hardened glass everywhere there's glass. Combat steel plate around the warp core and on the steel at the bridge. We know from Sith what happens if you have less than 200hp at vulnerable points!
Perhaps we need to move the pilot station back out of the firing line a bit? Perhaps even put it in its own combat steel room and fly 3rd person?
Edit.. And few of each of the resouces from the ice and fire planets wouls be Appreciated if you do go.

Been living out of a hotel for the last couple of nights but hopefully back into the land of the living later or tomorrow.
Sith, could you increase the size of your hanger in your next capital ship?
Then we could dock more small vessels which we could use a fighters to try and take out the aliens drones and turrets.
I think the CV's are better suited as a mobile base from which to launch attacks rather than trying to attack with it as it's an immobile lump.
If you have a clone chamber on the CV then we could have a few spare SVs in the inevitable case someone gets vaped. So they can get back into the fight. (assuming the clone chambers are useable by others?)
The other CV near the Space Station should have room for about 6 SVs maybe more and has a clone station. Of course we still need to finish reinforcing the hull and glass and add guns but other than that it's ready to go. How about a trip on Sunday evening with all CVs?

we could house lots of generic sv's as backup if it was needed.
You should see what's up in orbit already........
Basically any flat surface is an anchor point for an SV anyway, hangars are just nice to run into if needed.
Sith and Galatoni have changed their approach now and they are using the CV as an attack gunship rather than a carrier.
Albert, pen, oldie and myself have been doing a group build, and it has space for about 10 sv's. I also have a cv as an emergency warp capable ship in case it all goes wrong..you know, die spawn at home base get my CV, warp in, collect the guys and any bits that are left, escape sort of thing

What he said, once we got ourselves suitably blown up, we dismantled, and rebuilt, and the African Toni MK II now stands up to at least one volley from the [REDACTED] on [REDACTED] with extreme maneuvering and narrow sking of the teeth level luck, we got back into orbit and away safe, Jewels ship was parked on side that got hit and only suffered a small amount of splash damage, and the only parts lost were parts that were hardened steel. Everything Combat steel, or behind combat steel seems to have been undamaged...
The current design does as intended, get to the surface fast, park, defend. It can ferry SV's to the surface if people don't want to fly down, but I think the more massive constructions are better suited to the orbital mobile base now...
God I love this...
I was thinking. Since we're never really gonnna pilot these ships in 1st person, putting CH Steel wall over the cockpit may be an option.

Regarding last night - there was a little frustration and apologies if I sounded angst. Wasn't majorly but it kinda wasn't what we envisioned.
The idea was a group incursion going together, fighting in teams but it kinda fell apart. I appreciate the enemy shooting/glitching through the hill was troublesome and why some went ahead but the principle remains. Also seems to be a bit of a bun fight in the bases. The teamwork on building ships etc is great (yay dMw), it just seems to go a bit south on the missions.
Anyways. I think we'll need to consider resetting some instances if we can as quite a lot has been completed now?

Im begining to think my sv wasn't docked. I changed my cv to dMw when i let Jewelz in to have a look but not my sv. Would this make it undock? with my sv being private and my cv not?
Its the only thing i can think of as to why it vanished.

Everything that was in the cargo box that Pen filled has been placed into your ship's cargo box. The hangar door is open so just hitch a lift up and you can grab the ship and parts. There were about 3 rows of gear, ammo, only a few blocks.
I'm in the process of upgrading the whole of the hull of Blue Dwarf to Combat steel and after that I'll be installing some turrets.
Would be nice to take it to another system with our SV's and go on a mission if anyone is up for it at some point, there are now plenty of places to park.

Not sure how Oldie set it up, but it would need someone with remote access at the server level to do things and make sure the YAML files are not the default names.
Good thing that they fixed the undock thingy though, it was getting a bit annoying. The fix was to have your Cap ship as Private and switch your SV to Public so it was forced to undock.
I have no previous experience but am attempting to shut it down and run the update...It should be back soon (assuming the six pints of John Smiths I had this afternoon don't affect things too much :D)

Those are a lot of the issues we have actually noticed whilst playing, the Alien Humanoid Insect set off my CV mini-guns and rocket launchers when I have those set to not attack predators or factions.
Oldies SV was a victim of the "shooting through landscape" bug.
So just need the server updating please.

Not forgotten, just make sure for the time being that your ship is safely on or in orbit around Akua when you log out.
The process is very manual at the moment and because we have visited everything in our area it will be quite messy to clean up.

The wiping is restricted to playfields, we can leave individual planets and orbital space intact. Anything that needs to transition between is a different playfield.
As most of us are in orbit we'll leave that and the planet safe.

Once we have wiped and started a fresh, can I suggest we set up a 'community hub' on Akua as a centre point. - nice community project :)
As has been proved on other survival games which eventually don't rely on group protection, people just go off and do their own thing or just aren't interested in the survival aspect of... err..... the survival game :blink:.
Unfortunately most promising survival games seem to be more PvP oriented after initial comfort is established.
The island in the lake in the current map was originally earmarked as a community area, but in a game where your start location depends on the time of day you join and the amount of time you play, it's hard to do a central base. It also takes away a lot of the initial survival aspects. As such we had people on other planets before we had some people with roof over their heads and the centre island start block despawned.
Orbit is probably the only place you can do a community area and that's purely a staging area for sorties.
Maybe as the game is enhanced further we may get regenerating enemy structures and such or attacks from space, I would love some sort of regenerating fleet staging area which we could have battles with the AI or AI which could capture our own structures when we are away for too long.

Hit a very annoying bug last night which caused me to lose about 300 hydrogen cells, shift+click took out the required amount of stuff from my inventory to fill an empty tank but only filled one position. Didn't realise until I'd lost it all. Log out and back in fixed it.
yeah its good that they are shifting bugs before releasing the next version rather than just adding them to a list.
I have a weird thing happening when i get into my sv in space. i now always get a message pop up when i get into the cockpit saying 'Only passengers can enter a planet' :blink:
....only started happening since the main update. ......its probably me doing something wrong no doubt.

You'll get that when you are docked with a CV that's powered up. It's warning you that only CV passengers can travel and that anyone inside an SV attached to a CV will probably get killed.

Definitely a steal at £7.49 guys! It's an Alpha but packed with things to keep you occupied. Enjoying this a lot and would recommend it highly. Come join us :)
Just a few pointers for those that do want to partake......
1. Do yourself a favour and have a play at single player on easy for at least an hour, just to get a feel, the dMw server is on the hardest setting and is unforgiving.
2. Spawn on "Akua" and not "Omnicron", this is the fluffy planet, but will still kill you pretty fast and at least has breathable air.
3. You start in a slightly steerable escape pod, steer away from any buildings you can see. It's preferable to be near water as there are currently no water predators and you can put on your helmet and breath if you need to hide. If a red marker appears on your radar then get in the water and wait for it to leave. It's a drone and once it sees you it will hang around. The mountains are pretty safe, but there's nothing there to eat. About 20% of the fauna will attempt to eat you.
4. If killed, "respawn at current position", do not "restart", your start position is determined by the time of day on the spawn planet. If you restart then you will spawn with none of the initial supplies you get from first spawn, you will spawn a long way from your old body and you have made life considerably harder. Respawning at current position will move you a short distance from where you died, but you then have a chance at getting all your gear back. Whatever killed you will still be around though.
5. It gets easier after you have got your base and a defensive canon up.

I did successfully connect on server yesterday for a few minutes, just to try out and to see what is like. I also installed TeamSpeak, but I didn’t had time for testing it or play the game more. Just for my better starting, what are the general DMW rules in game? Lots of thing are changed in Alpha 4, especially in multiplayer.
- Are you/we playing together from single base, or separate in clan, or everybody is for himself but against aliens.
- What’s with ore resources, as I landed two meteorites fall down somewhere. Are anything visible (in personal radar range) or - fist to get claim ownership, and become invisible for others? Something like that is introduced in a4.
- What are the general settings for the world on server? I can 'feel' it is on hard, but is there some extra hard stuff added (small amount of ore, extra bug spawn, etc.). Can’t see that anywhere.

Our server admin is OldBloke, the game is not an adopted game yet, we're running it on trial.
As for difficulty, that all depends on where you spawned, the falling of meteors makes me think it's probably Omnicron, bold move because the atmosphere isn't breathable. I'm not sure what the current resource levels are like on Akua, so you may be there.
We're playing the game as PvE although the other planets are still set to PvP, we may change that. It's up to you how you want to play, I enjoy doing a lot of things myself to get the most out of the game and help others out if they want, but not too much :devil:, some like to team up and work together from the off and just enjoy the building side of things.
To force you to "enjoy" the building side of things we have disabled the ability to import blueprints or use the factory. It makes for much more entertaining builds.
Raising the levels increases the number of drones whilst also making the local wildlife a lot harder to kill. Resources are never an issue because once a mine is exhausted it will send down a meteor to replace it. Meteors will despawn after a short while if nobody is on planet and so you'll normally get the same messages when you rejoin an empty world.
Omnicron's drone population has been greatly reduced, I believe Akua still has a reasonable population though. I'm not sure if we've taken over any alien bases this time around, the ones that have guns anyway.
Hopefully they will work on the alien AI and make them try to retake their outposts in the future and spawn more drones to replace the ones we have downed.
As Sith has said, the client is now 4.1 and the server is 4.0, so we're locked out until Oldie or maybe Whitey does the needful.

So, after finding a post from Sparky on the Empyrion forums pimping out your server, I signed up. Finally worked out that Post #1 in the passwords list is by default on the last page (confused the life out of me...)
It was an entertaining first day on the Empy server, I spawned in and was promptly almost gang banged by 3 alien insects, several night raptors and a couple of plant monsters. This left me at level 5, but with zero ammunition left, so after I scavenged the bottom of the lake for seaweed, I started out hunting for iron/magnesium deposits, whereupon I came across an unsubdued Epsilon base that promptly blew the crap out of me and twice more while trying to retrieve my backpack.
Once this was achieved, I find myself in a promethium deposit and plonked down the survival constructor, only to see it vanish in front of my eyes! This led to a suicide pact with myself and a fresh start in order to get a new constructor. Unfortunately, the pod spawned on the opposite side of the planet to where I topped myself, in a tropical forest in the dark. Luckily though I got a new chainsaw and some biofuel, and the chainsaw does chop the spiders up pretty quickly.
After 10 minutes running around the planet, I get back to my backpack and retrieve the contents and set out to mine myself enough for a simple base inside a mountain top, complete with an enclosed underground hangar. This got me up to level 10, and I set out to build myself an SV. Finding out the blueprint system was unavailable was a bit of a blow, as I'm not terribly creative. I did however manage to create a ship that not only flies well, but doesn't look like a box with crap wings bolted on the side. I just need to texture/colour it up now.
I finished up the night by finding the mid and back sections of the MS titan, and managed to mine out all the cargo containers and quite a few of the thrusters to disassemble, which gives me the T2 drill. I then looked at the clock and found it was just past 3am, so I was a little late for work this morning :D
I'll get TS installed tonight and set-up. I have to admit that the server was really quiet last night, didn't see anything in chat, so maybe I was just all alone like a true survival game should be to start with.
Next plan is to get myself up to the Sathium 'roids and harden my little ship up, then it's payback time for that damn Epsilon base....
It looks like somebody new tried yesterday evening to join (unsuccessfully) on Omicron. I found his full basic backpack (next to the another empty one) around midnight as I was returning to my home base before logging-off.
Or….. was it a Dilli’s one, mysteriously teleported to Omicron from distant land of Akua (there was also like 5 wood logs inside, and I picked up saved everything) :g:
Setup on game server is not all that difficult, XP points are obtained very-very fast and you are on level 20 in no time after some mining & hunting. Also Aliens & Drones are nowhere to be found, but those first moments with lots of aggressive bugs & animals can be really hard. I quickly died 2-3 times on first logging, and also discovered ‘the hard way’ that now in Alpha 4 diving in to water is not safe â€" they can all see, attack & kill you!
Especially hard for newcomer can be landing in dark with ore depositories already discovered by some existing Faction â€" then they are much harder to find. Before I was called to join Omicron [OMG] faction I could not find any Iron driving around on motorcycle, but after joining you can see everything they already ‘own’. Boys came to my rescue, and saved me, they lend me some iron/copper/cobalt, which I later repay them back. :yahoo:

I’m grinding a lot last couple of days to catch up with others, already made 2 SV (small vessel), one is for exploring/transporting and other is for combat. This evening I will probably try to build my CV. I did raid some alien bases (on Omicron & moon) but for some reason there are almost only cheap white containers with junk in them, so no zascosium or erestrum ingets (green & red brown ones) and I only found 3 power coil thingies to build one Advanced Constructor â€" but still no rail guns for my SV.
Now is my turn to help others. When you join server and land on Omicron and have some serious problems â€" hit ‘coma’, it is global chat, and call for help â€" if I’m later today in game building my spaceship I will fly over in my brand new Kosmobus SV, and you will get a seat by the window. Drop me a note in PM if you like for timing.
BTW, is there someone interested in raid on Abandoned Factory tonight? I did knock out door or two on entrance there to look in first few containers, but didn’t go down there to have all the fun by myself.

Nope, it wasn't me, I spawned into Akua, and as the post above yours, I still had a bit of a tough start. The Red/Grey ship looks smart, I've yet to try the wing blocks yet, as I was rapidly running out of ores for my build. I'm probably going to texture/colour it tonight if I don't get sucked into starting on the Ark server to get a headstart on Thursdays community play.
Once I get the SV done, I'll stick a screenie up, I'm pretty happy with it considering I normally use the workshop blueprints or build in creative and blueprint, and building in survival is a new thing.
One simple tip from me regarding mining for ore in early game â€" when you want to mine in longer single run far away from your base in ‘hostile’ land. Always take with you your starting mobile Constructor and Filler/Flatten tool, beside working lights and of course your drill!
You can put mobile constructor in your hole, or outside, so that you can pop out to hunt and make sausages during work â€" also with F&F tool you can close entry hole, or make it much smaller. Animals and bugs can drop in and attack from behind.
Couple of bigger runs like this and you are good to go, later recycling enemy bases can be enough.
Yeah, I realise this. I have logged 750 hours so far in Empyrion, so I do have a decent grasp on the game :D

Just as I manage to fix my SV’s to fly properly - they enter whole new family of big fat jets for them… and I still didn’t made a single hoover “tank-explorer†with new alpha 4 mechanics…
They also need to upgrade armor on ALL alien bases, most of them are still made in of now tinfoil ‘50’ armor. One shot from any (vessel) weapon can destroy half of building… Even alien canons can be taken-out with one precise salvo.

Indeed, I took down the Drone Base on Akua this morning using an HV arty turret. The zoom function works really well on that, and I popped it from about 600m out, but the towers suffered badly in the assault (as in, no towers left after the salvo) :D
Well, for a game still in Alpha it's not looking bad.
A lot of the top 3 requests in their forum are for better AI and AI to launch assaults to take back and rebuild their POI's.
Until then try not to build anything off the starter planets Omnicron and Akua, that way once we have cleansed the system of AI we can reset the playfields of all but our home planets and have them all populated again.
Full server wipes will probably be done at the major releases so we can enjoy it all over again.:D

Last night this “thing†was floating (standing) in midair over desert, somewhere in between T.Hub and A.Factory… it was solid. I think it could be near the same place I found abandoned dead men’s starter pack with some wood logs, few nights ago.
Two nights ago I had green arrow marker, like it was Liberator, moving around ‘my base’ but there wasn’t anyone there â€" I found Liberator hunting meat all the way up in the north (and mi casa is down south).

Yeah there are still a few bugs with the mapping.
Quite a few times the player icon is not actually where the player is and you see someone's SV go flying off without them, sometimes travelling through the green barrier will mess things up on the client end as well.

It's possible to save your builds for local use, just not use the BP system to rebuild them.

A little warning to the players.... They've fixed the Zirax AI, these buggers can now shoot upwards and downwards, damage has been buffed, and they will drop you very quickly if you get surprised by them.

Good, it's about time they became an actual force. Now if they can just make sure the structures are combat steel on the next big wipe........
Dynamic retaliation would be nice as well, but.... Alpha... maybe taking a break and revisiting when the game reaches Beta would be advisable.
I suppose that the problem with unrestricted early access, you marvel at the changes whilst being fatigued by starting all over again and having the rules change underneath your feet, more so when that game is a survival game.
That being said, I still like the concept of Empyrion and don't mind just flying about and checking the changes when they appear. But really hoping the AI gets a complete overhaul soonish.
Yeah the AI need to be more intelligent and more destructive, it's far to easy to take over a base imo.
I feel the same, I think I may Park it for a few releases and then revisit but I do like to keep popping in.

Modular Building:

How modular building works:
Look at your mother base, open "Building Tools" menu (hotkey N) and select "Connect to" -> you can now place the next block freely on the terrain in a grid (i.e., 90° with respect to the mother base). The new block defines the foundation of the "child base" which will be the same structure as the mother base but the child bases can be physically disconnected from the mother base (and you do not need an extra core). Since the mother and child bases are the same structure, they can be controlled together via the Control Panel.
Merging Structures:
- Added "mergestructs" and "setposition" console commands (Creative mode): you can now download different bases from Workshop and merge them together in one base (e.g. to build an outpost with several separate buildings or a small city)
How "mergestructs" and "setposition" console commands work:
1. mergestructs ID_mother ID_child
-> this will position child into grid of mother (child and mother can still be adjusted)
2a. setposition ID y+/-OFFSET
2b. setposition ID x+/-OFFSET
2c. setposition ID z+/-OFFSET
3. mergestructs ID_mother ID_child -ex
-> this cmd will execute the merge command. You can now save the new structure as a blueprint
Please note that this is the first iteration of modular building and structure merging - we will improve & refine these features over time.

Not sure when last any of the other guys have logged on Oldie, I was snooping about the features last week, I'd say its fine for a wipe, since these changes atm are regular and huge I don't think anyones grafted serious time into it?
Maybe give everyone a chance to save some blueprints if they haven't done so?

Yup, the introduction of roaming NPC ships a few updates ago probably needed the wipe as well to introduce them into our system.
I've been hopping onto the server every now and again and found that my plants have not been growing, so I guess nobody has been on our planet.
Not sure about players on the other world though.
If your game has been auto updating then you can't get onto the server anyway, 5.0 is not compatible with 5.1.
Maybe update the server first to allow blueprint grabbing, then wipe it for the restart.

f2 on whatever you are standing on brings up a menu that allows you to save the structure i believe XD...probably,maybe,possibly

Its right-alt and O to save a blueprint to your library.
Always worth remembering to keep updating your custom blueprints especially before you go on a mission.

Exactly! And what's been particularly exciting to see in effect is how the oxygen and radiation systems work, like having to seal a structure so that it becomes a breathable atmosphere inside etc, mix that with the suit upgrades, I see lots of great adventures in this game coming up!
I popped back on with add and this game does seem to have Improved a lot, temperatures and even radiation I found when I logged back in so I can't wait to see what's that's done to me. I think all the new features and the use of the blueprints this will make for a nice return to the game

Just radical what these guys are getting up to!
Although I'm keen to see what's progressed I'm staying way until they get close to their finished product. Don't get me wrong, I think that this is going to be a corker and I've enjoyed it so far, but the constant restart fatigue sets in.
I know Sith and Gal have been waiting for the airtight buildings and I am very interested to see what they have done with the AI and see if they will attack and rebuild, they were the main thing that needed fixing. I reckon that it could be a damn fine PvE with those fixed, with just enough survival so that it made things tough to start.
Server updated to latest beta experimental version. Map wiped. All blueprints on.

I'm with Lib on this, we both put in countless hours when it went quiet and there were only a few of us playing it only for the server to be reset. I'll definitely start playing this again once it's closer to the 'official' release. I just can't be bothered with another grind to get where I want to be at this moment in time.

We've spawned on Omnicron, and blueprints are enabled for building/saving stuff you make man, but
DISCLAIMER: This is the experimental branch of Empyrion and we've had to wipe the server a couple of times so come have a look and help test stuff out, but please bare in mind that if it all gets fried which is likely, that you did so at your own risk lol :D

Empyrion's absolutely HUGE update, Alpha version 6 of the game is set to launch 07 June, it brings an absolute monster load of changes to the game including among a myriad of other features:
Oxygen! and the need for ventilators etc in bases.
Radiation, some planets will poison you without the right...
Armour Mods, modify your suit with different effects like easier EVA or temperature protection/ radiation protection etc...
Trade Stations with AI that you can use your credits at!
Enemy troop ships, and cv's that actively try to kill you..
And so so much more my doods...
Remember Empyrion is still not for the faint of heart, while Addx and I have tested these experiementals a lot, the Drones still relentlessly slaughter you, but there are all sorts of systems in place to make those initial hours less frustrating.
It'd be great if you all came back to have a look once this update lands, there's really a lot more to the game to enjoy.

Anyone planning to come back and have a go with all the awesome features, I have some tips!
SPAWN AT AKUA! If you spawn at Omnicron, be prepared for a hellish start! I would much prefer us all to establish something on Akua then move out into the solar system, the drones are just as evil as before, and now that the radiation and temperature and oxygen all factor into your survival, the green friendly planet never looked so good!
STOCK Blueprints are enabled, so if you absolutely hate the idea of building something from scratch, Empyrion's own blueprints are there to save you some time.
Don't forget to do the solo missions accessable from the PDA, they reward you with some much needed coins and equipment early on, and are another reason to start on Akua!
Above all else Have fun! There is an absolute heap of new features, I'll post the patch notes here once they are out, the game has all sorts of horrible things ready to kill us, friendly npc's that just want to trade, enemy CV's that will rain hellfire down on all of us, just to name a few!

Anyone joining and thinking that the resources seem scarce fear not! Remember that the Blueprint system is activated, and by placing DISASSEMBLED blocks into it you still get refunded the value of those items in their base metals. For example, if you are trying to figure out where you are supposed to get 2000 iron from, but you have 4000 steel plates lying around since you deconstructed that base you placed your core in, then fear not! uploading the steel plates directly into the factory not only loads the amount of iron, in this case, 0.5 per steel plate I think it is, counting towards your iron ore req, but also changes the crafting time since you've put refined blocks in, the tiear 1 CV Sithy's Super Chode mk1 took only 1hour 36 minutes to produce, and cost me half of an "outpost" in resources.
This is a great way to get yourself space bound, and warp bound, and even if you don't like the prefab tier1 at the very least you can deconstruct whole parts of it to change it or rebuild it from scratch! :D

SO as of today the Dev's have released 6.1... WOW!... its expected to be as big of an update as 6.0 with loads of little updates every other day.... (these guys are seriously kicking it up a notch) However. This means that in order to acquire these new updates we would have to restart the server every single update, which Personally I don't think is worth it. I think it would be wise to leave the server at 6.0 and wait till the official release of 6.1 then we can decide what to do then, Instead of having to reset the server every other day... As for accessing the other experimental versions that will be coming out before 6.1, I have found a small server in which to play on which seems to be updating with the experimental and is resetting every time. this way I'm not too bothered about losing stuff because it's not my main server. I suggest everyone who wants to try out the new features of the update should do the same =D
as 6.1 has now been officially released after two updates I would like to push that we get the server updated. I don't know if the server needs to be wiped before hand but if it does i do not object but I'm certain some people will object. I ask that people post in here if they would be okay with a server wipe or not

I'm ok with a wipe too, and if it's going to be more regular that we completely allow the blueprint system, and switch the difficulty back to easy peasy resources mode, that will hopefully offset the crazy time it's taking us to progress effectively...

I know there's stilla few of us that lurk for updates to this awesome game, and in case you all missed it check out whats been going on in this Anniversary update change list, it's really turning into a bafflingly insane game, maybe not quite ready for permanent hosting yet since each of these updates need a world wipe to affect all the changes they introduce, but definitely worth keeping note of!

My motorcycle was eaten by a triceratops, I swear. Four Hours in and this is a seriously addictive survival game. A dMw server would be great.
It's one that we all really liked and played it to death, alien AI was a bit primitive at the time. Definitely on the "Play Again" list, but once they get close to release I like to wait for the full drop.
