Can we be careful with what we write on the public pages, as some talk (relating to server changes, new DLC, maps etc) is simply better suited to private admin chat first, before being rolled out to the rest of the players.
I am not saying this because we have been naughty, but because with this new DLC there is the potential to be so! I have tried to give an ambiguous reply to the thread about the DLC just now.
This new DLC is exciting but we need to discuss it here before we talk publicly about what we will do, I think :)
So... what do people think :D
Yeah I jumped the gun since I saw Ark updating 8.2gb and couldn't find a buy option :( I thought it was going to be part of the whole Ark pack... I'm obviously buying it, but it's a shame its gated entry, and we're already a smaller group playing... It's not doubt a shockingly good addition to the game though!
Sorry if I was borderline out of line on the public forums!
But yeah, discuss :D I'm gonna be available to give it a bash anyway, because I love Ark and it's awful difficulty etc :D And I'd obviously love that bash to be on a server that's private and I know the community, as I said in public, live official servers are awful...
Ok I have 2 thoughts here.
The first is as pen has said there is still much to be done on the centre, and I think it is probably a bit premature to think of canning that server yet (I am still playing it myself!).
That said.. I worry there is a risk of 'missing the boat' on the new server. If people are all trying it and exploring now, it loses some of that 'wow' factor by the time we adopt it. Of course I appreciate it being paid DLC it may cause issues, which is why I started a thread to try to see who would be diving in.
I don't know what is the best approach and I am not really saying I personally would go one way or another, but what do you guys think?
If we dump The Island server we have and replace it with one for Scorched earth we could at least have a look at it and see if it's worth considering the move?
(dumping The Island sounds harsh but I think I put more hours than most on it so it does hurt when I say it :crying:)
I didn't even know we were still running the island.
Unless you mean the centre?
If Whitey means the save file of the original Island I don't mind seeing it burn in hell considering it might be home to the biggest cheat base ever, without proof but come on...
Pitching in as a recent recruit to The Centre, and knowing the effect of lost momentum in Elite, if the server hardware has the capacity to handle this new map, it does look awesome and surely will bring folks back to Ark.
I agree, the centre is still developing but aside from a few of us newer players, the core guys are well developed, and are only really helping newbs and breeding animals like crazy. I'd love to tackle a dragon as a group.
Big question is will it run smoothly. Primative+ was rather slow I read.

We'd do like before I imagine, admin only test server, we see how it handles a handful of us, get basics nailed in so we can help others, then wipe and have fun as a team, it worked well for theCentre
As long as I can knock you unconscious and feed your naked body to a dragon Sithy, I'm happy.

I mean I'm sold, so Whitey or Oldbloke weigh in on the chat and let us know your thoughts please?? Some people already messaging me asking if we're testing
It's what this DLC doesn't offer that's concerning me.
In my eyes it's just more of the same as far as the gaming experience goes and I'm not inclined to rush out and get it - even though I know I would mostly enjoy it. It's the lack of any mention of an improved team-play element to the experience that I'm finding hugely disappointing.
We as a community keep dragging our core survivalists from one server to another at regular intervals which, I know, is causing frustration and a measure of resentment to some of our members.
As a gaming community with a strong focus on teamwork oriented gaming I'm not sure if putting up yet another single-player experience server to, again, split the player-base is the right thing to do. I need to give this more thought.
Yep I can appreciate that.
Is there any grounds to consider primitive+ with the new map? If even possible.
Edit and as I said I'm still playing the centre so yeah I wasn't trying to push one out and the other in haha
I think we really need to re-strategise our game play on Ark if it's going to survive. All too much it turns into a single player game with friends nearby.
The Lan isn't too far off now so I suggest we grab those interested parties and see how we can revitalise it and make it enjoyable for all.
In the interim, would people be happy to wait until then? Otherwise a TS group chat may be an option. Primitive+ maybe an option but the reticence still remains about getting it to work continually through core game updates. I'm happy to go with the flow - I signed on on the premise it would be an oligarchy but as Oldie rightly points out it does need to be more team-orientated than currently.
Yeah you are right. I am guilty of that, as I like it as both a single player experience and a team game. I was thinking to myself just recently how we need to have a community focus... something like a build plan - e.g. let's build a town around a pyramid (not original, it is in the video, but very cool). Building a pyramid could be a real team effort, with a town around it for people to build their own small homes etc. It would take some planning and organisation mind...
Aye. I think we could throw in a couple of rules that will prevent certain things from happening. We've already discussed the Prim+ thing, its a shame, but I think the general consensus is that it will split the player base. I think a proper discussion on this would be the best way forward. Name the time and the place.
Im available now through till thursday as usual so just poke me if I'm in another channel on TS, or come fetch me if I've not felt the poke
I think it's a little premature to jump straight to the DLC tbh and am not proposing we do anything until a discussion at the LAN.
There will be a council and game leader meeting at the LAN but I'd also like to have an unofficial ARK meeting for admins (and, I guess, players interested in attending).
Sounds good to me, and a sensible way to approach things. I think that yes we should open it up to anyone.
I want in on the meetings :D
It occurred to me whilst playing on the centre we could keep the centre running as the 'permanent' dMw Ark map. Scorched Earth could be ran for a while on a 2nd server (if possible), with us eventually bringing dinos over (as the new features allow this).
This would give a reason to play the new DLC, but keep the time and effort in the centre intact...

That's far more in line with what I was thinking, never to move away from the center, more like just take a holiday in the desert...
Could we not just start SE as a server and those who want to try it do so. No obligation or pressure to move from the centre?
Thats the benefit from owning our own server, we can offer up the option. If it would hurt other servers then we should wait of course.

I don't mind but it's Oldie that will need to do the work on it TBH.
Worth running a scorched earth server as the start of our ark nights?

I'm in :D

I'm happy to run a server so long as the majority of our active membership have it and are happy to play it. However, my biggest worry is that people will exclusively play Scorched Earth and, once again, we're leaving people behind and splitting the playerbase.
Would people be happy to play Scorched Earth on an intermittent basis for the time being? Random thought but what about if we turned if off and only had it active on set nights to start with????
I would prefer exactly that, pen. Then we don't lose the centre as the 'hub'.
Can we link both together? I read that Scotched Earth isn't meant to be a home environment but somewhere you go to raid and achieve goals like tame a dragon or do some killing to level up to get specific engrams.
Oldie is already looking at spinning up an Ark Server and seeing about linking the two worlds together.
Apparently it's not the easiest of things to accomplish so bear with us.

You guys rock!! CANNOT WAIT for this man! If I can be of any help just say!
Also rumor has it even Galatoni picked up SE :norty:

He gets all the fun jobs! Thanks guys. I expect it's two servers linked through their startup scripts like this https://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/343785380904739986/
Definitely more effort than just click and go. No rush for sure take all the time needed to understand the setup. I think the main priority is trying to keep The Center safe whilst adding the other mapZ.
